Hello Tim, I very very much enjoy your videos but it can be hard for me to follow them fully because I'm very slightly hard of hearing. I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to include captions in future videos?
Anyone else ever watch Grand Illusions, and think "... this dude reminds me of my Granddad", or "this man is my new Granddad??" .... man's a british professor, and we don't even know if he's getting paid to do this stuff! Just makes videos on collections and friend's collections, all to show us some neat stuff. Tim is just a gem... Never a dull day when I sit down with my lunch and cookies to watch him. 25 yr old me, just letting good old Granddad talk about all the neat stuff in his collection. Never ceases to amaze, or put a smile on my face...
There are some kinds of special people who either make or break a visit to the Grandparents... and Tim obviously made them. Even as old as I am now, I would NEVER get bored tinkering with all the neat toys in his collection. All I would need is a granny feeding me sweets, and some quality time with Tim and his collection; I'd always be right as rain, I tell you...
Yeah! I have a pair of glasses like that stuffed in my christmas box, except instead of pi they make bright lights say the word "Joy", you put them on and look at a christmas tree and all the tiny lights say Joy and it's very silly and fun
Ahh yes this is the first gold bar I got when I robbed a bank with my friend 20 some years ago. I still keep in touch with him, he's a wonderful man, quite eccentric the fellow is.
I actually had a pair of specs like those pi ones, but instead of pi you would see giraffes. They were given at a light show. I lost them a few years ago and was really sad since they were very neat.
Essentially it's a grid. From one side the grid is printed with the motif, from the other it's not. On the printed side the eye focuses more on the printed motif than the light visible through the holes, from the other side it focuses on the holes more than the grid. You can see that for example on advertisements on buses (if they extend to the windows). However for this card they used a very fine grid mesh, making the effect even more noticeable.
Tim gozinta box was originally an idea by Luber Feadler One of Germany’s finest magicians there’s a version called Luber’s Gift it’s in the Paul Harris presents collection
I memorized pi 30 years ago but can't remember past 3.141592653589793 as I used to program and wanted that kind of precision but, of course, it truncated on me internally.
douglas james henning illusuionist did same idea of box inside of box fit inside itself on a larger scale box illusion and produces marie osmond in box and ricy scrider hosted also wanted to get in the box and learn it

I love this man.
He was probably the one who baked it as he is immortal

that's a moire.

Everytime Tim emits a "heh", an angel gets its wings.
Tim!! I only just found this channel and I'm 100% addicted! Binging all your videos now
I seriously want those business cards. That's a brilliant idea.
Looks like it's just a polarised film which is pretty darn sweet
@@r4z0r84 It's much simpler than that. It's basically the same method they use to print advertisements on bus windows but tiny
Grand Illusions is becoming Grand Robberies, where Tim is going to show us the jewels and gold he's robbed from safes :P
Tim
"Really fascinating gold ingots I stole from Belgium, about 20 years ago now. Really quite extraordinary.... Heh."
only after the statute of limitations is up
You already cracked into a safe...
the safe to my heart.
Turns out Tim was really the mastermind behind the Hatton Garden heist!!
Hello Tim, I very very much enjoy your videos but it can be hard for me to follow them fully because I'm very slightly hard of hearing. I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to include captions in future videos?
Just get new ears lol
Humanlike asshole
Get new eyes lol
you can turn on captions now
I just found out that Grand Illusions is subscribed to VSauce. I’m not sure what to do with this information but it makes me happy nonetheless.
Would it make you happy to know that we have met Michael?
Grand Illusions that does indeed make me very happy.
Michael on grand illusions would complete the marvel cinematic universe. This needs to be done
Quite nearly...just add Adam Savage and we'll have ourselves the mechanical curio equivalent of the Avengers.
This is actually how I found out about Grand Illusions. Michael mentioned this channel in one of his videos.

Wow
remarkable
I was watching the video and as soon as I scrolled down, the first comment was 'heh' and at the same moment I read this comment, Tim said "heh"
WookieBush heh
I'm dead 😂😂😭
I think Tim is about to rob a bank...
Lauri Konttori why?
At the end: "I like the idea of cracking safes... Perhaps Ill have a go at it..."
Now you see Tim, Now you're not
…he already robbed it, he happily showed the bank how to fix the puzzle so others can’t solve it

Jamey Grimes?? Never heard him called that before, Lol.
Water from the singing bananile
Nothing better than cheap booze and a Grand Illusion video.

Skol and grand illusion is paradise. Maybe some pot too..
Lmao living the same life
Water from the Nile
Cheap weed
4:02 Jamey or James? Apparently James Grimes, who appears on Numberphile every now and then, is actually selling non-transitive dice.
It's James Grime (no 's' at the end). I think he can make a response video if people ask him. His channel's name is singingbanana.
if you know someone personally to the point of being friends you get in the habit of using nicknames…he might know him as Jamey
amazing toys , thank you tim .
wow does the sunglasses make the light look like pi
Yeah! I have a pair of glasses like that stuffed in my christmas box, except instead of pi they make bright lights say the word "Joy", you put them on and look at a christmas tree and all the tiny lights say Joy and it's very silly and fun
Diffraction gratings, although the ones with words shapes etc are a lot harder to come by, something to collect
They are from the nile
Does anyone know if there's anything even slightly similar to this in the uk?
Ahh yes this is the first gold bar I got when I robbed a bank with my friend 20 some years ago. I still keep in touch with him, he's a wonderful man, quite eccentric the fellow is.
"Put that in your pocket and you can go home!!"
That lock is so cool!
That combination lock intrigued me the most because i've always wanted to know how to open a lock.
Watching Tim amused by his toys, brings me joy
I actually had a pair of specs like those pi ones, but instead of pi you would see giraffes. They were given at a light show. I lost them a few years ago and was really sad since they were very neat.
Thank you, Tim! Very cool!
God bless this old man soul for he represents everything right with people
I would like to know more about the effect seen at 5:45. Does it have a name so I could google it?
So... what is the effect used on that business card called?
it's basically a printed mesh film.
TY for the reply. But I still don't understand why it is only visible from one side :(
Essentially it's a grid. From one side the grid is printed with the motif, from the other it's not.

The effect is known as Contravision
Somebody please explain the sorcery controlling those playing cards. Lol
i have a theory it's threaded on the inside and the cards slip past each other but it's secret so i'm not 100%
@@AleK0451 It's the 8 that gets me he doesn't include that one in the turn, yet it changes!
Are the dices from James Grime from numberphile?
8:20 ... the "Valleys" are called 'Gates' and the "Long Bolt" is called a 'Fence' "Clicks into Place" is called 'Dropping In'
the pi glasses are amazing. How does it work?
Wonderful spectacles.
Heh I figured out the cards one. The rotary thing is a corkscrew... turning the cards moves the card up or down through the group.
Tim gozinta box was originally an idea by Luber Feadler One of Germany’s finest magicians there’s a version called Luber’s Gift it’s in the Paul Harris presents collection
And so begins Tim's reign of terror as the most prolific back robber in British history
I’m convinced Tim is wiser than human limits can make note of
he is very calming
Oh, I’ve stumbled upon more Grand Illusion videos. I’m going to be here a while.

Just finished a good movie with a bittersweet ending (Train to Busan if anyone's wondering) and you've helped cheer me up once again Tim!
Wow everything about this video is cool and happy
Every time he says heh I think it’s the end of the video and I’m disappointed
Wonderful Stuff Tim.HEH!

Hi there, the boxes were invented by a magician called Lubor Fiedler.

I would put all those sticks in my pocket.
