The arc lamp was used as a ray lamp to get a 'sun tan' which also had two infrared coils for heat treatment therapy. It also had a pair of green goggles to protect the eyes.
My parents had one of these leathal lamps in the 50's and as my mother was adjusting the carbon rods, she got electrocuted and knocked out, after CPR my father put her to bed and luckily she survived and recovered.
The lamp was never used again.. 🌞 😎 💥 😨 🌛
There was one episode where he actually showed a gimicky butt plug. I am still not sure if he was actually unaware of what it really was, or is he just the king of deadpan.

I think this episode has the most meme potential of them all, Tim's noises in the beginning, "lots of spaghetti", "three of them in my glory hole". Tim shows off his cool old gadgets and provides fantastic laughs all at once!
I love that you can watch Tim for years and years, but then discover new video's still and be absolutly blown away by his collection and mannerisms.

Those carbon arc lamps were sold as Pifco sun lamps and you can tan in front of them. My mom had one from the old days.
Used to work in a orthopaedic hospital years ago, they had very similar ones they still used for therapies(the heat helps with the pain and relaxation, there was a different model that produced UV rays so it helped bone growth etc..)

I uncapped an old forgotten WWII bunker in Australia and abseiled down it's vent shaft and found a room full of fun things, including mysterious rods that no one knew what they were for. I suspected they were carbon arc rods for search lights, and sure enough, they were. There was a lot of fun stuff left in situ down there, as though when WWII ended they just downed tools and back filled the entrance to the fort. Rusted old rifles (ironically in a country with a total gun ban), tea cups and plates still on tables, rotted paperwork everywhere. But those carbon rods were the stand outs as they looked mind, even the print was intact on the side. They were about as long as your forearm and as thick as your thumb.
Best start of any Tim video ever.
