What was wrong with the metal piece of the contact switch before you fixed it? The video only shows the already-fixed version. This is an awesome fix compared to replacing the entire assembly, thanks.
Thank you for your comment. IIRC, the metal piece was deformed by the push rod in the shifter shaft so that right under the push rod the metal piece had a low spot. So, it wasn't being depressed enough by the rod to touch the contact switch. Hope this helps. If you're so inclined, I'd like to hear how your repair goes.
