    Great to see the progress you’re making. Love how you’re taking time to reflect on what you’ve done at each stage. I know from my own experience that if something doesn’t sit right with you now it never will, so make the changes early on while you can.

      Hello Martyn! Appreciate the encouragement, so many things I've learnt along the way, and you're right, better to adjust now than have a gremlin forever! Thanks for watching, it always means a lot to me. Hylt

    Hi,
    Yes indeed you are doing so well in all areas so well done and if you think you do not have much room to film you would hate having to film on my layouts compared to mine yours is a dream. Keep up the good work and in no time your channel will be as big or bigger than mine which in the time you have been going is little short of stunning well done sir.
    Cheers Robert.

    Great video,OO Dave put me onto your channel, I’m just in the process of buying a new house and have started to pack up my layout. Luckily the new house has a decent sized room in the basement which will allow me to start again. My original layout was a tail chaser, and I’m now considering a dog bone layout to avoid having an up and under or going onto my hands and knees. I’m looking forward to getting through your videos, all the best- Ross

      Hello Ross. That’s amazing, Dave has become a fast friend of mine so thank you for popping by! It sounds like you have an exciting time ahead of you. I too completely changed my layout, it’s not a dog bone type tail chaser and it works much better in this space! Thanks again for popping by and good luck with the move! 😊 Hylt

    Wow Sir a lovely presentation.A Super layout looking forward to seeing the Mountain that will be a wow factor and help to hide some of the curves. I hide my curves with Tunnels it makes a difference. I wish you well. Thank you for sharing your ideas and progress. Best wishes Richard Canterbury kent England.

      Hello sir! Thank you so much for watching and for your very kind comments, it means a lot to me. I do hope I can do the vision in my mind justice when it comes to bringing it all to life. Yes, especially the tighter curves like the reverse loop must be hidden, they don't look very realistic. Thanks for the advice. Hylt

    Good progress on the layout. Sorry to hear about the derailment. I had a spectacular derailment my main regret was not catching it on camera. Hope you get the locomotive fixed. Cheers Paul.

      Thanks so much Paul, derailments are part of the hobby I guess, but it was brand new so I am a bit bummed about it.

    It's great to see your progress. I found that running a pencil along the corners helped to remove the whiteness of the folded corners.
    I've uploaded a couple of videos of my Accurascale Class 37's and Cavalex Class 56's all sound fitted.

    Layout looking good! Engine sheds, stations & sidings enable you to add character in accordance with your own taste.
    I seem to recall Everard Junction is a low-level layout, where he does all the work & camera shots on his knees/sitting.
    Your incline & bridge is an interesting feature too. Charlie at Chadwick has been building his recently.
    Derailments are a fact of life. Don't blame you for taking precautions. The reverse loop under the hill will definitely enhance interest/"play value."
    Listening and watching you build your layout goes to show how both the vision and complexity of a layout grows as you become more invested in it. But that's part of the fun: it's never REALLY finished!
    Dunromin is a popluar house name too with people who have found their "forever home".
    Keep up the good work: I'm sure I am not alone in enjoying being on the layout development journey with you!

      Hello Stephen, always so great to see your name pop up in the comments!
      I must admit, I find the heigh a real annoyance, even if I added a carpet, it would still be at an awkward height, too high then? Its frustrating :/ So I do think I need to fix it.
      Thank you for your thoughts here, I wanted to make this as interesting as possible, what I didn't realise was I may have made it more challenging too, but I am up to the task.... I think? :P
      Yes, I like Dunromin, makes sense, didn't realise it was also a 'forever home' name but that totally adds up!
      Thank you always for the kind words of encouragement, it sincerely means a hell of a lot to me. Have a great week ahead and we will chat soon no doubt!

    Hey Hylton, the layout is coming along nicely. Good to see you running into the same issues that most of us run into as we build our layouts means we are all in the same boat, lol. Have you thought about building your own hoppers? Scratch building is not as difficult as you may think. Just a thought. Carry on the great work.

    Bachmann did do a ' White Horse Whisky ' grain wagon it's blue with the old style D couplings I have one. Other manufactures over the years have made them it might be best to look on eBay UK for some but I suspect shipping to be expensive. When building a layout keep it simple to start with their is no rush. For buildings why not make them out of cardboard boxes and use clear packing for glazing. My layout is based on Attercliffe , Sheffield , South Yorkshire this area is industrial with many now gone steel works were located. The area is now run down and parts of it were demolished in the slum clearances of 1970s/80s a lot of ready to go buildings are not suitable so will be making my own.

      @Proper_Chuffed  9 місяців тому

      Hey Peter, thanks for the heads up on the hoppers, I’ll try find some! Shipping is just a part of the hobby now for me 😂
      I’ve got some good ideas on building a distillery from scratch, may be my best option actually. So will do!
      I shall do a google on the area to get an idea of what you’re modelling but it sounds great! Would love to see it!

    A great update man! Loving the look, the decision to make some room for the station will pay off in the end so can't wait to see how it turns out. Sucks about the Loco! But I'm sure you'll repair it well! Maybe another video idea! :D I think you've made great strides and hidesight is 20:20 :) I'm sure down the line you'll look back fondly on these changes you plan.

    Hi Hylton, I've just been watching this with my grandson, and found it interesting. We've got a small 00 gauge layout that we built, which my grandson (12) likes to film for his Dylington Model Railway channel. If you've not seen it, give it a watch he's not doing a bad job of filming it. Comments are turned off to protect him due to his age, however if you feel like commenting you could do on the Christmas video or even on here, just mention the videos name. Any way we've subscribed, so we can follow your journey.....cheers James 🙂👍

      Hello James! That’s brilliant, thanks for watching, I think it’s brilliant that you’re getting the young lad into both model railways as well as exploring the world of UA-cam 😊 I have subscribed and will give his content a watch! Good on you for providing a secure and enjoyable way to grow in the hobby!

      @Proper_Chuffed thank you so much for subscribing. He'll be thrilled, I hope you enjoy his videos, he does put a lot of time and effort into them. But unlike you, we transport Dylington Custard rather than whisky. Although we do, do a special blend of whisky custard at Christmas 😁. Have a look on the water tower for a Dylington Custard Company ghost sign made by Scale Model Scenery. Speaking of Scale Model Scenery, have you seen the Railway Modellers Club AAP that they run, it's free and a great community to be part of. I agree with you, Double 0 Dave is a great watch......cheers James 🙂👍

      I watched a couple of the videos. He’s done a great job with his stop motion story telling! It is an arduous but rewarding technique! I must say, VERY impressed! Well done to him!
      😂😂😂 I love that you have custard on the layout, definitely the most fun type of food to transport around!
      I shall definitely take a look at them! 😊 thank you James. My regards and best wishes to you both!

    One of my locomotives fell off the layout last year, landing on the tiles. Luckily it was an old sturdy Jouef 231C60 of the 60s and the damage was limited to a broken buffer... but I nearly had a fit!!

    Just watched this episode, I'm enjoying the story of your initial experience designing and building your layout. You show your reverse loop in this one, which auto reverser module have you used?

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Michael. Thank you! I am glad you’re enjoying it. Unfortunately I have made some decisions about the layout now, and it will be coming down in the next week. Check out my newest video for all the info on that 😊 I used the Trix reverse module, it’s a brilliant and relatively cheap bit of kit 👍

      @michaelball68 5 місяців тому

      Coming down? I shall look forward to the next episode then! Mind you, one thing I've heard many times since I took up this hobby a few of months ago is how much design ideas can change as you build your first layout! I'm just beginning this process myself, and I'm sure I'll be changing my mind a lot in the early stages!

    A mountain is a good idea, but you also could run the line down a hill to move the trains underneath the top board.

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  8 місяців тому

      Hello, I did think about that, but unfortunately space is a bit limited so I thought I would run the distillery as a single branch 😊 thanks so much for watching

    • @PeckhamHall
      @PeckhamHall 8 місяців тому +1

      @Proper_Chuffed
      As long as you hide the circling track, that's the main thing, I can't stand a layout with bends showing, I'm going to make a layout with the woodhead tunnel and electrified line that closed down in 1981 sometime, and do a loop at the tunnel, underneath back to the other end. I'm going to make a cabinet to go with it. Going to see if one of hornby's 21 or 22 pin blue tooth sound decoder can be used to control anolog trains, and running the points with the cab lights etc, and use a PC speaker for all the electric locomotives.

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  8 місяців тому

      @@PeckhamHall I considered doing a helix but sadly just no space. Under the hill I have a good reverse loop, albeit a bit tight. It sounds like your layout is going to be really cool! I would love to see it come together! Thanks so much for watching 😊

  • @hughoconnor9172
    @hughoconnor9172 9 місяців тому +1

    I'd personally would hesitate about putting a huge mountain in the middle of the layout. It would be an awful lot of work and you'd lose a lot of space which you may want at some time as the layout develops. Good progress!

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  9 місяців тому

      Hey Hugh, some food for thought there, I think I may have overstated the scale, it really won't be a towering monstrosity by any means, but it does create more interest having another level with an industry don't you think? Thanks for your thoughts, ill definitely consider it. Hylt
