Question . When we knock on the eye 5:04 of the cam to dismantle the steering tip, does this not lead to the appearance of microcracks in the eye and its subsequent destruction?
My mom's poorly-maintained '92 Camry had pretty bad steering drift and imprecise steering, really dangerous to drive. Turned out to be bad ball joints, sway bar link connectors, inner and outer tie rods, control arm bushings and steering rack bushings. Replacing them all fixed all this and the steering was as good as new. The front struts probably need to be replaced but that can wait still spring. Personally I've never liked the Camry's steering, being a bit too wavy gravy and imprecise for my tastes, but it's a family and not a performance car, so this is probably by design because the typical Camry purchaser probably likes it this way. But, it's not steering and drifting like a boat with a loose rudder anymore. I couldn't believe she drove it this way for so long and am glad I caught it in time.
