Can we just take a minute to appreciate the badass rhythm section that is Steve Ferrone on drums, Will Lee on bass, Ray Parker, Jr. on rhythm guitar, Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar, and Greg Phillinganes and Paul Shaffer on Keyboards.
I mean, that is *the* single-most Randy Newman act one can imagine.
Randy Newman. A true national treasure.
Randys humor is the Best, Allways was!
Back up singers: Whats our part?
Randy: You sing: “he’s dead” a bunch of times.
who else would even think of writing such a song
A completely self aware genius
The background singers are smiling so much! They must be having a blast!
absoulutely brilliant !!!!
Randy may be doing Disney scores now,but his shit disturber heart is still alive and well.He could have played so many of his incredible songs, but he chose to play this one ,which applies to virtually everyone in the audience. An awesome writer, composer, and musician.
I'm sure it was Randy's idea to do this while the committee was hoping for Marie or Baltimore :D He made the right choice.
I’ve been singing this for days!
Randy is the champ
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Henley took over. Love Randy.
I think that's Robert "Waddy" Wachtel .
You don't often see backing vocalists having so much fun. Also, leave it to Randy Newman to figure out how to say something entertaining about having nothing to say.
I love how as a slight meta narrative its a pretty engaging song, but it feels still like it was designed to be just a little bit boring and generic... to drive home that what he makes isn't as good 😅 Truth is though 'Bad Love' which has this also has some of his all time greats on it. All his albums do.
When he said “bands that had farewell tours” I wish Kiss had been there so they could have cut to them.
I saw Kiss, they sucked.
Kiss were a fun band but the current version isn't so great
There's Ray Parker, Jr. on guitar, right?
Holy crap! I think it is...daym!
So ironic that Don Henley embodies the character the song is referring to.
I think Don Henley got the joke mate
Don's a good sport. He once even sang Don Henley Must Die with Mojo Nixon
To slag off aging rock n roll bands at the rock n roll hall of shame after being inducted, WOW
He’s also talking about himself dude
Ozzy Osbourne is dead too....but he actually knows it. 🤣
Good one. Sharon will prop him up and no one will know 😂
Song stats at 0:31.
