Wow Arnold thank you so much for your thoughtful review video. Looking forward to following your grow journey. Thanks for trusting us your plants to GroBucket!
Good review man... basically there seems to be almost no cons to using this system, its lovely and I can't wait for next season where I transition from regular container growing of my peppers into this system.
To increase the wicking action I cut 3 -18” pieces of Braid Polyester Rope through the wicking insert to where the rope touches the bottom of the bucket. With each 6” of soil I circled a rope then added more dirt and so on. Helps substantially. 😉
Potting soil has worked well for me. It is a good idea for the 1st watering or so to water from the top of the soil instead of the fill tube to allow the soil to pack and form an effective wick. The rope idea I'm sure works fine too.
@@45valk hum that is an interesting thought for long term it would have to be better then cotton but wick better would be a surprise as it does not absorb water..I didt get to work with my garden buckets today and watching more self water buckets I think I am going to make changes again
All the wicking that happens from this GroBucket system that was left out of this video is it happens all around the very bottom edges of the bucket, there are holes/slits down there which Is why soil needs to be compacted more around the edges of the insert, that supplies the wicking action, it isn't the top wholes which facilitate the air pruning.

I wondered it poly rope would work as a wicking...I use poly for dog long leads so have old and new around most times.
@@goldenmare2594 I think it wicks way better than cotton

Run the drill backwards to deburr.
Hi what happens to the overflowing water esp if you have lots of buckets. What a waste of water.
The water overflows onto the ground. It is a few drops. Less waste compared to planting in the ground.
if you are concerned about the overflow you can catch it in multi ways
Stop watering when it starts flowing out
