    Hey Jason. Easiest way to unhook the battery is slide tweezers down under the cable next to the board between the board and battery and lift. No chance to short it.
    Also the foam is water proofing. Many water damaged 6S the FPC is hardly ever damaged. Components around the gasket usually are though.

      Thank u! :) I always screw everything up when the cameras are recording. Sometimes I disconnect the battery using a flat-head between the metal shield that covers L1604 / C1648 & the battery connector. Also no chance of short and puts very little stress on the connector.... just don't get ur tweezers under that shield! :D

      Just tried your method for disconnecting battery. That works quite nice :) Probably do it like that from now on and it will keep me from picking up a different tool.

    What I normally do tin the FL4211 under the microscope before placing it, The extra solder bit on the FL4211 makes it easier to solder on to the board.

    hi sts. nice repairs here. at 52' you say that using super glue to make that wire stay in place. instead of glue you can use uv curable solder mask. search for that it has some appliance when you microsoldering. keep up the good work

    I have a similar case, the screen is dark but the touch works and the phone itself works. there is nothing on the screen even under the flashlight. at the last insertion of the display, a huge Spark went and the phone no longer turned on the screen. a spark or, in fact, a flame appeared exactly in the place being repaired on your video

      You're welcome!. The wire in this video came from an old 120VAC electric fan motor.

  • @OrbiterElectronics

    Yep.. Making videos is part of the business these days Jason.. The customers have to understand more IMHO. As you know the actual recording of the video is relatively quick and doesn't effect normal duties too much. However the editing is the most time consuming part, well it is for me anyway :) .. and mine is normally done in the evening.
    Cheers mate
    John

    • @ststele
      @ststele  7 років тому

      Hey John, this is very true indeed. The editing takes forever but is absolutely necessary. Without it there would be (more) long drawn out periods of nothing and the videos would just be awful. lol
      Thanks for commenting :)

  • @Solamar1
    @Solamar1 7 років тому

    Again, thanks for the video!
    A question: I see you disassemble the phone and just put the screws on the magnetic sheet. How do you keep track of which screw goes where on the reassembly? I realize that you do this a lot, but the differences in the screw lengths is so minute.

      it looks like he does what I do, you place them on the pad in the shape of where you took them out. you have a mental pattern on the pad. doing that its pretty hard to mess them up.

    Nice repair. you do an awesome job. Wouldnt it make more sense putting the filter "fuse" at the Test point so if the phone comes back you dont have to remove the shield to replace the filter again?

    • @ststele
      @ststele  7 років тому

      Thank you! :) That was really tempting but, I've installed this jumper before and accidentally shorted it. It sort of flashes light a light bulb and then I wound up having to replace driver, coils and diodes. I really only installed it there for protection of the circuit. The fuse is generally to prevent fire hazards in most appliances.. I highly doubt this could be a fire hazard but I wired it as such. It could be possible to put a larger "fuse" at the beginning where I put mine, then a lesser value one at the end at end before the test point. That would ease the repair for the next guy. I really just wanted to be sure my wire couldn't cause any negative affects... like, fires - if someone happens to be installing a screen in a room filled with propane fumes, and shorts the backlight again.. hahaha! :D

    • @bobspurloc
      @bobspurloc 7 років тому

      Ah yeah that makes total sense, you want the fuse closest to the power source to avoid Murphys Law with that jumper wire. Something one learns the hard way sometimes lol.

    Good afternoon, Master! I followed 100% your video, I did everything right, it went all right. But the display was left with a black spot in the upper left corner. In another 6s it lights up normal. Do you know if there's anything wrong with the backlight yet? Since I already thank you very much for your video and congratulations for the success. Hug ...

    Hah, whoever did is an idiot. I use an isesamo to open pretty much every electronic I work on, phones included. I've tried using plastic pry tools and spudgers and they're just too flimsy and brittle to do the job. I've been using the same isesamo for years.

    I have the AmScope SM-4TPZ Professional Trinocular Stereo Zoom Microscope. What size power lens are you using? I purchased two 0.5X lens and they still don't magnify enough to give me much working room as I see in your video. Can you tell me what power lens you are using? I have about 3 inches of working space between the bottom of the lens to the board. I am just learning this and love watching your videos and recently purchased all the stuff needed. Thanks

    • @spartan456
      @spartan456 7 років тому

      Chabasco Looney I have the same scope and a 0.5x lens. The scope has an adjustable zoom feature. I can get a wide range of FOV and zoom out of it and that's with the boom stand at the lowest possible setting and the optical assembly as low as it will go on the focal distance rail.
      I can't zoom in all the way of course but I can get pretty darn close. Close enough to do trace repair on flex cables.

    With the wire you are using, that "fuse" probably wasn't required. FL4291 is rated at 350mA, which would require about a 26 AWG jumper wire - which is way too big for this repair. Looks to me that the wire you used was near 36 AWG which is only rated for 35mA. - Here's a link to a wire size / amperage chart: diyaudioprojects.com/Technical/American-Wire-Gauge/
