    Nice work, can you recommend what components to check on an iphone 6 thats been water damaged, It dosent recognice the battery (new one ofc) but goes to apple logo and off when charging, and ofc the owner tried charging it when it still was water inside..
    The board and all components is cleaned with isopropanyl alcohol already and cant see anything that looks burnt.

    Hi, i watched a lot of your videos, and just wanted to ask you what temp are you using to remove the shields? And one more thing - my iPhone 6 recently stopped charging, and after doing some research, i discovered that U2 (Tristar) could be the problem. So i got 2 new ICs, cleaned everything including the black stuff covering U2, removed U2, cleaned the black stuff underneath U2. Then i ran into a little problem, wasn't sure about the orientation of the IC, searching on google gave me two different orientations, so i decided to try my luck and soldered it the way i thought it should be. The phone turns on, when i connect the charger it says CHARGING, shows the charging symbol, power draw is around 500mA with screen on. As soon as the screen turns of, power draw drops to around 10-20mA... Any idea what could the problem be? Could it be that the U2 IC is bad? Also, IF the orientation of the IC is wrong, i guess the phone wont turn on, or it wouldn't charge, right?

    That's amazing work I used to do component repair on military electronics in the 1990's with microscopes on classified stuff. We were outsourced small business money sucked like $13 bux an hour it was good for 1993. I went into IT work did much better didn't have to spend all day looking though a microscope probing with a digital O scope. My guess is no one is getting rich off this type of repair since it's cheaper to just buy another used phone.

    • @ststele
      @ststele  6 років тому +1

      Thank u! :) I really depends on the day really. I charge $95 to $300 on any given device and I usually make $200 to $1000 per day. Ok ok, there are some days that suck horribly bad and I make zero but today, it is 10am and I have billed out just over $500 already. I am, however, concerned about the long term future of it. We are at the mercy of the manufacturers and they would rather not see this stuff repaired.

    • @Mike-01234
      @Mike-01234 6 років тому

      Today it's lot easier to own a business like this and survive with the internet think about how you might be able to do this in 1990's with no resource's like we have today on the internet. Most of us electronic techs were at the mercy of some small company who worked out a deal with a larger one. In my case the owner was an officer in the army in Vietnam in radio intelligence. He had lot of friends who were in the defense industry by the 1980's he was making lot of money but his employees were paid far less just enough to live in a little apartment and drive an old used car in California. It was interesting work don't get me wrong I did like the technology I just couldn't see a future in it. It's tough when you don't have the support of the manufacture behind you in case like yours. Your right they would rather see you go away. What is amazing to me the cottage industry China has created I guess these manufactures are so full of greed they just tolerate it. Are all the schematics, and board layout's from china they just copy everything there sell it to anyone.

    Thanks a lot for this great demonstration, as always, a job well done. I have a question please, I try to repair a dead short. I have a short on these 2 lines : PP_VCC_MAIN & PN5V7_SAGE_AVDDN. No other line of Chestnut are affected. Is it still possible in this case that a short under Chestnut is the origin of the short ? (Every cap in VCC Main looks fine).

    Hey man, I recently dropped my phone pretty hard and I know the charging port was going out on it (again), but it still doesn't get any power (even though I understand the LCD could be toast, I still think it would turn on to the point it would get recognized by my pc), and my biggest concern is all of the data and pictures that were on the phone prior to the incident. I wasn't able to back it up due to the port being faulty and my pc only recognized it for a short period of time and I was wondering if I am able to send you my phone and or board to see if you could possibly get it to either power on or recover my pictures?
    Thanks,
    Monty

    Hi there everyone! I have a simple question about short detection (PS: you're dealing with a novice). Do you really need a DC power supply in order to check for a shorted capacitor? Thank you !

    • @gpoaacbh711
      @gpoaacbh711 7 років тому

      No, of course you don't. But shorts create heat, so you can localise the area where the short is coming from. Otherwise you would end up measuring the whole day.

    • @gpoaacbh711
      @gpoaacbh711 7 років тому

      P.S.: The fastest method would be to coat the whole board with frost (freezing spray) and then connect the power supply. In most cases the short melts the ice immediately and you have it localised in no time. :)

    • @jamessmith9273
      @jamessmith9273 7 років тому

      GPOA ACBH Thank you very much for your reply! The problem is actually that my power supply has an output amperage of 1 amp, so it is kind of weak for such short detection. I would guess that I would need to buy a more powerful power supply for this job, true? Thanks again!
