    I recently bought this laptop with the i7 and 4060 version and it is absolutely amazing for my use case, most of the time when I use this, I use a charger so battery life I don't really care about, the laptop easily gets all my work done form training AI models to gaming amazingly well. I love this laptop from the looks to the performance . The only issues I felt were that the laptop sometimes get a little warm under heavy loads but I am usually using a external display and peripherals so it doesn't bother me. Overall I am extremely happy with my investment.

      @@aarnavsrivastava8041 So i got a i7 14th gen and to be honest it is more than enough and also pretty future proof. I think i9 would be overkill unless and until you are doing task which can actually take advantage of it. So i7 is super solid for battery life I am getting 6-7 hrs easily according to my daily usage which includes coding and daily browsing

      @aarnavsrivastava8041 I'm in college too and I got the i7 with rtx 4070 because of computer graphics development is enough to run programs. The i9 is ultra expensive and you could get a desktop pc with much power for that much. The graphics cards on laptops get toned down a lot.

    01:08: Pricing starts at $1,700, with various configurations available for the Legion 7i.
    03:10: Design is consistent and attractive, but could benefit from unique textures.
    05:00: Keyboard and trackpad performance is good, but trackpad sensitivity needs improvement.
    07:10: Display quality is excellent, but battery life suffers under heavy workloads.
    10:25: Performance is impressive for gaming and creative tasks, but noise levels are high.

    I love this laptop, I bought it for $1200 and then used my savings to upgrade the RAM (16gb > 32gb) and Wifi card (Realtek > Intel BE200), plus I added a 2tb SSD. It's a beast, it is definitely an A-tier contender for the price imo. The 240hz 16 inch display is mind-blowing to me since I've only ever used 60hz displays. Being able to run every modern game at high settings is a luxury I never thought I needed. And it just looks beautiful. Everything about this laptop just comes across as beautiful to me.
    That being said, my only real complaint (aside from the fan noise, which doesn't bother me too much since I wear headphones when I play games) is that the keyboard gets extremely hot under heavy load. It almost feels like touching a hot frying pan. It was almost worrying, because I could have sworn I smelled something burning at one point, so I closed all apps and let it cool off. This is a pretty big concern of mine and I do warn everyone to make sure you watch your temps and do not block the exhaust ports. If anyone experienced the same and found some solution other than reducing performance, let me know!

      Was it expensive to upgrade? I plan on building my own from the Lenovo website and I'm choosing the better gaming display & the i9 processor with the 32gb ram and 1tb ssd & the 4070 graphics card but i want to upgrade all that i can to max plus this would be my 1st gaming laptop that I want to use with my gamepass ultimate access when I'm away from home so I want all the ray tracing smoke and smooth graphics . did u change the wifi card for any particular reason? I got mine with realtek also and it keeps disconnecting from my wifi and idk what to do. On a side note which ssd did u get? was planning on doing that upgrade only but maybe i need to also buy a new wifi adapter lol

    • @jungeezy
      @jungeezy Місяць тому +2

      @@kennybell1337 yes mine would disconnect constantly also, it’s a well known issue with the Realtek cards. Intel cards don’t have that problem. For some reason, Lenovo randomly put Realtek cards in some Legions, but in other Legions they put Intel cards. It’s entirely random as far as I know.
      You can get any recent Intel card, but I got the BE200 because I just recently bought a router that supports Wifi 7. The BE200 allows Wifi 7 connectivity, it’s awesome. Haven’t had a single drop in internet since
      I went with a 2TB ssd from HP, the FX900 Pro. Honestly I didn’t do much research on the ssd market, but this one has been great, no issues or anything

    Can you please mention how awful their naming scheme is for customers actually trying to shop for these?
    7/5, i7/i5, 5/7 slim? 7i/5i slim?! All with different generations from different years with nothing in the naming to indicate which came first, and a total absence of useful information on basically every site selling them. Then factor in that there's often hardly any difference between them, with the specs of both high and low end laptops overlapping significantly, depending on the exact spec of that particular laptop. The slim variants are like 1mm slimmer than any other, which further confuses things.
    I like these legion laptops but who even knows which one I really want? It seems like every time I think I've found the right fit for me, I find a new one with a different name and basically the same spec.

    Very strange review, maybe the weirdest I’ve seen, it seems you complained about almost everything whilst the stats showed a different story, I mean ofcourse the fan noise will be loud in extreme mode?? Its even worse on the G16, the battery seemed pretty decent for an i14 HX CPU laptop where you didnt mention the others did not carry as powerful of a CPU which in return gives slightly better battery life, and it being almost perfect and not perfect as title suggests, means you will recommend alternatives which could either be G16, which its not perfect either, and razer blade which is absurdly more expensive

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  6 місяців тому +8

      The problem isn't Extreme Mode. Its Extreme, we get it. The issue permeated into Performance Mode as well which is highly odd since Legion has always used Perf Mode as their more balanced gaming focused profile. I think you might have watch the conclusion rather than worked your way into the entire video.

      @@HardwareCanucks i watched the entire video twice, I have watched about 30 different reviews on this Unit and G16, I wanted to see what numbers you would get compared to the G16 with a 4080, as I feel thats a more direct comparison because the Legion 7i with 4070 is way better performing than G16 4070, and if its not perfect I wonder what the gold standard of 16inch laptop is from the ones you reviewed in 2024, 53.1 db on performance mode I consider normal for a gaming laptop, I find it hard to believe the others you tested didnt get to around 53 using a similar mode

      @@shaeisgae8952 Since May. No issues whatsoever. It's a powerful machine with power hungry components. If you expect the battery to last long when gaming then 1-2 hours tops is what you will get. Otherwise, light office work can get you 6-7 so pretty standard for a high end Windows laptop.

      @turmoilstabilizer9054 2 місяці тому +1

      @CarlosHerasme Performance wise, it's the top 2 of the rank with those hardware components. Only Legion 5 Pro can squeeze more due to better thermals. I have undervolted the cpu in bios and overclocked the gpu. Gained 10% free with much better thermals. Currently, my ambient temps vary between 18-19C. During light dev work, fans are at 1400rpm, which is barely noticeable, temps hover around 55-58, otherwise at idle I can expect them to get as low as 47C. For such a slim and well-made device with a power-hungry intel cpu, this is superb imo. I can fully recommend it.

    I have owned this laptop for a few months now. My biggest complaints are:
    -Battery is non existent under even normal use. 1.5h. Must bring a charger, which is massive.
    -In performance mode it gets super hot and vans start turning on max, even before windows have loaded up (log in screen)
    -White looks cool, but it is not a durable surface. Had my first scratches even before taking it anywhere with me out of the house. (No idea how they got there)
    Performance, build quality, screen, keyboard are awesome however.
    Bottom line is that this machine is always plugged into the wall, and never leaves quiet mode.

    This is so much better than my 8th gen for literally $70 more than I got mine for. I mean the hardware is the same. But the display is nicer, it looks less like a gaming laptop, which I prefer. It trades 2 usb c none with thunderbolt support and 4 usb a for 3 usb c, 2 usb a, and an sd card reader while maintaining the headphone jack and hdmi port and being slimmer. Some segments of this video is simply nitpicking and gets a little weird. A gaming laptop this beast is going to be loud @9:20. In fact, all gaming laptops with a 4070 is similarly loud. This laptop has higher performance compared to a Zephyrus G16 and Lenovo Yoga Pro i9 resulting in lower battery life (duh). And you know what? It's more affordable too!

    I love my Legion but I won't buy another one unless there is a 120hz mode. 60 and 165 doesn't cut it and causes plenty of issues with stuttering and frame times if you don't know how to mitigate those issues. 120hz option would solve a lot of it.

    Really have to know as i watched some reviews in which the difference is very little and some where the difference was about 20-25 percent(1440p gaming). I'm planning to keep the laptop for about 4-5 years. The 4070 has more cude cores, but rest of the specs are identical ig.

    A side question i have and would love to confirm is if a Mini DP vs. a 'normal' full-sized DP like those found on a desktop gfx card, theres no difference and compromise between the Mini DP and DP yeah; where the Mini DP would still be able to get the full 360Hz

    idk how you measured the gaming performance in the Zephyrus G16 but the results are really low from what they are supposed to be and Asus has turbo mode which i don't think you used or else the performance would have been at par and even better sometimes like for example in far cry 6 i usually get 87-95 fps in ultra setting at 1600p . i hope you are not paid by the company to spread fake news but this is the reality.

      We are very transparent about how we tested all devices by listing power as well as which GPU each has. I fail to see how a G16 + RTX 4070 running at 76W (out of box Performance Mode) can compete against a 7i + RTX 4070 running at 115W (out of box Performance Mode). Even if we bumped the G16 to Turbo, it still only goes to 100W so it would get beaten by the 7i running in Performance Mode.
