Great review, TFL! I just reviewed a Honda Civic Hatchback. I probably won't post the review until Saturday (since I am still in the process of editing it). I greatly appreciated its very aggresive, yet still sophisticated exterior design. The interior though could use some work on the lesser LX and Sport trims. After all, I reviewed the EX trim which comes fairly well equipped and has a decent amount of soft to the touch materials. Keep up the great work, TFL! -DriveAndBeDriven "The Quest To Record The Best!"
Beautiful car. Unique and sporty. The rear bumpers look like afterburners it does not look like a civic however. It looks like a simplified Lamborghini. I want one! .
Great review I'm happy Honda is coming back to the hatchback game but considering their past something tells me the civic hatch isn't gonna last long maybe I'm wrong we will have to wait and see
DanielSparten Premium is recommended, not required. The guy clearly said regular 87 is the normal fuel across the entire lineup. You will lose some performance, and possibly lower fuel economy by not running premium, however.
ZephaniYah White Yah, sorry recommended but still. I don't know how often engines have problems when you use a lower grade fuel that it *recommends*. Even so, a Honda is a Honda. You expect a car from Honda to last pretty good so using regular on a premium recommended car seems too risky, don't want those knocks kicking in.
Guido I'm not a car expert but from multiple reviews the reviewers have mentioned the sport does not require premium and runs fine without, only difference is you don't get the 180 hp with the reg fuel. It's not a turbo that requires it like some.
Those bumpers are a mess. Looks like two departments styled the front and rear ends. One department did the uppers and one department did the lowers. And neither knew what the other was designing. Then Honda just stuck them together. Great reviews for the Civic, but if looks could kill, this car should be locked up.
I bought a sport trim and i love it boy is it like a small bottle rocket ive been pull over a few times already to comment on how bad ass it looks this is what they tell me (Doesn't even look like a Honda)
Did you ever get a chance to drive it in snow, I am interested in getting one, but if it does not do well in the snow thinking of either the new CRV or Ridgeline. Thank you
I checked out the Civic Hatchback yesterday. To get the good version you have to pay way, way too much like at least 25K FOR A CIVIC. I checked out 2 other Honda models; the Accord and HR-V. They were either cheaper or the same price and you get so much more it's not even a contest. Don't get me wrong, the new Civic Hatchback is a pretty nice car but I don't think it's going to appeal to the masses like the Civic sedan simply because of the price. I probably saw 30+ Civic sedans at the dealer compared to only 2 Hatchbacks. I don't think the dearth of Hatchbacks is due to them selling them like hotcakes nor do I think it's because the dealers haven't had time to stock them. It's just a niche car that is too expensive for the young crowd to buy and too little car(literally) for the older crowd to even consider. Man I was looking forward to this car but Honda has disappointed me to no end with their bizarre ways.
Eric Haynes also the sedan has been out for a year, that's probably why you saw 30 +, the hatch just recently in the last couple months started to be shipped to dealers.
Spot on, but the Honda Sport is still the best hatchback currently available 😉Which makes all competitors, even more bizarre than Honda 🤔. Honestly, I’ve looked at its competitors. None measure up to this car. Not even close. Again. Wild. So. If you’re listening Honda. Upgrade the manual Sport hatchback. Better front seats. Longer thigh support. More front seat legroom. A panoramic roof. A better & bigger infotainment panel. A higher roofline, front & back. Silver or machined wheels instead of black wheels. Same body coloured skirt instead of the black gloss skirt. Real metal-wire body panels instead of faux black plastic panels.
you said in the video that an Si hatch would be coming up but nowhere Honda said they will produce an hatch version of the Si. Did you hear that from someone close to Honda's big shot?
Vanessa Sierra i already know that.. if you can read i said an Hatcback Si cause the man in the video said there would be one on the way but never Honda talked about this possibility.
Hi~ I just want to ask to Nathan. I saw you from the review about Hyundai Elantra Sport with Motoman Tv. To be honest, which car is better between Elantea sport and Civic Htachback? Not the aspect of performance, but for general.
can we order it from indonesia i love the sport manual version. coz i doubt i get sport touring with 180 PS in indonesia in order to maintain the sell of civic sedan with 173 PS
Erik Chee Accord makes more power. But the gas mileage will suffer. Also it's more expensive to fix. I like the civic mainly because it's alot of fun for the money.
So what about the Civic Type R? Will a SI model be released for the US instead?(like always...) Honda needs to bring the Type R to the US if they ever want to compete with Volkswagen or Subaru.
Jeff K the new Elantra GT has the new 173hp motor, 6 speed manual, and the best power to weight ratio in its class. That's pretty impressive seeing how it's NA. Can't wait to drive one along with the Golf TSi and Civic Sport Hatch.
Zachary Strain true. I drove a Veloster as a rental for 2 weeks and while the chassis is quite willing and it corners flat it's still dull to drive, especially compared to my mk3 Focus, which is much snappier and more responsive and direct.
I've been following TFL for some time now, but I guess I may have missed a memo along the way. What is the difference between "The Fast Lane Car" and this channel- "TFLnow". Any insight is appreciated.
I'm not gonna lie I love the Honda Civic but I feel like it's kinda ugly with 4 doors, a two door hatch like back in the day would be lit, like the ek9 but idk about a 4 doer hatch
Thanks for the review! You mentioned there would be an upcoming Si model but all sources say there won't be one for the hatch. Did you mean the Type R or do you know something the rest of the community doesn't?
THIS CAR LOOKS AMAZING! Now honda please update your cbr600rr motorcycle and my honda collection will be complete. ( And yes I even own Honda's power equipment :3 )
shawn benfield the price for the crude hatchback is absolutely crazy!!! and size comparison or lack thereof should be considered to. but yes I agree the crude hatch is a sharp looking ride.
28,000 dollars for the top sport model? Fuck you Honda. I'll spend a couple more and get a Mustang GT with 435 hp, and pretty damn good handling, and still be able to fit people in the back.
I have no doubt that these cars will run for 200,000 miles with very little trouble. I have no doubt that they will retain a good resale value. I still would not buy this car because it is just flat out ugly.
The interior bits (cup holder, dash)sound cheap and hollow , c'mon Honda you can do better! Especially for how expensive this is. And TFL didnt show the actual dash from the sport trim, they used stock pics from the top trim.....the Sport has a tiny little screen not the big upgraded screen.
Seriously Honda!! 2003 was the last time anyone in your exterior design team came to work sober. Ghastly, garish, ostentatious, overwrought, exaggerated, bulky, disgusting looking Civics you make these days. I can't stand the look of them in pictures, videos, or on the highway. With all that expensive and complicated tech, you aren't doing any better mpg or hp/tq than my naturally aspirated di dual-vvt 2.0L manual. Honda vehicles and powersports these days are completely in my disregard. They lost their way from the performance oriented company they used to be. Disagree if you are a brand-loyalist, but I'm not. People have whined about Subaru not being the most pretty thing out there, but honestly it looks 10x better than Civic.
Jeff K makes you think you are getting "more power" like that of a muscle car which typically has functional vents. If anything they should have added carbon fiber pieces instead of cheap chunky plastic. AND GLOSSY BLACK 🙄. No.
F20NAprelude agreed, looks fantastic. The baseline Sport is only around $21k, that's with the 1.5t and 6 speed. That's a pretty sweet deal for a brand new hatch that is actually appealing.
For me, and its 2020, I still see this as fresh. And a manual is still available on top trims is a bonus
Nice review. I drove both the manual and CVT over the weekend. Both versions were terrific.
Just got the Ex last week…love it!!! super fun to drive and gets a lot of head turns!
Great review, TFL! I just reviewed a Honda Civic Hatchback. I probably won't post the review until Saturday (since I am still in the process of editing it).

Beautiful car. Unique and sporty. The rear bumpers look like afterburners it does not look like a civic however. It looks like a simplified Lamborghini. I want one! .
First competitor that comes to my mind is the Mazda 3 hatchback
Love the look of these. It's not for everyone but to me they look awesome.
Nathan you went to Alice!! I miss ripping those canyons on my sportsbike. Love La Honda road. Hope you had fun over there.
Great review I'm happy Honda is coming back to the hatchback game but considering their past something tells me the civic hatch isn't gonna last long maybe I'm wrong we will have to wait and see
You were wrong
Si trim will only be for coupe and sedan models, the hatchback's "big brother" is the Type R.
Honda should make AWD available. So people don't have to buy Slowbaru
Not even clever at all fool. Honda should just stay where they're at to compete with the Golf and Focus.
type r even in FF trim is going to be faster than Subaru on everything except 0-60 times.
F20NAprelude And don't forget reliability.
Sir Unknown why not? I live in North climate. I don't really want to drive 2WD in the snow. I would be happy to have a 4WD hitch in my garage.
Sir Unknown 😂😂Slowbaru can be expensive to maintain. Honda is bulletproof
how do you fit in there nathan
I think the fact the Sport trims requires Premium Fuel kinda kills the deal, unless you're not caring about paying about $5-10 more.
You expect a car from Honda to last pretty good so using regular on a premium recommended car seems too risky, don't want those knocks kicking in.
why would you get anything other than premium? You even a car enthusiast?
DanielSparten cvt is the next best thing.
Guido I'm not a car expert but from multiple reviews the reviewers have mentioned the sport does not require premium and runs fine without, only difference is you don't get the 180 hp with the reg fuel. It's not a turbo that requires it like some.

Vincent Maturo I used to be critical about them but after seeing the car in person and lowered it actually looks great!
and I have the sedan (without the big inserts)
It looks best when you can't see the honeycomb and the black starts to look more like negative space.
I bought a sport trim and i love it boy is it like a small bottle rocket ive been pull over a few times already to comment on how bad ass it looks this is what they tell me
(Doesn't even look like a Honda)
Did you ever get a chance to drive it in snow, I am interested in getting one, but if it does not do well in the snow thinking of either the new CRV or Ridgeline. Thank you
Would you recommend this for winter driving? maybe some snow tires. Thank you
so glad they make manuals

Honda's stupid add 6 HP with premium fuel sinks the whole upper end packages
grey color one is badass
you said in the video that an Si hatch would be coming up but nowhere Honda said they will produce an hatch version of the Si. Did you hear that from someone close to Honda's big shot?
b4ll4z there's a coupe si out now
Vanessa Sierra i already know that.. if you can read i said an Hatcback Si cause the man in the video said there would be one on the way but never Honda talked about this possibility.
b4ll4z chill. I was just saying. I just sped thru the video. But it'll be cool if there was a hatched si but I doubt they'll be one.
I'm patiently waiting for the Type R and it's specs/pricing in Australia. Could be my first brand new car :-O
which has more room the '17 Fit or '17 civic hatch?
Civic ex-t or elantra sport? im torn between the two.
Hi~ I just want to ask to Nathan. I saw you from the review about Hyundai Elantra Sport with Motoman Tv.

Aside from looks, which is a better driving 6 sp MT car - the Civic Hatchback Sport or the Accord Sport?
Erik Chee Accord makes more power. But the gas mileage will suffer. Also it's more expensive to fix. I like the civic mainly because it's alot of fun for the money.
In Indonesia we don't have manual transmission because all type is slow CVT transmission
Can the sport use regular 87 octane gasoline ?
Whats the engine block code on these cars ?
the hatchback to me just seems a lot sportier than the si coupe...
So what about the Civic Type R? Will a SI model be released for the US instead?(like always...) Honda needs to bring the Type R to the US if they ever want to compete with Volkswagen or Subaru.
How does this compare against the Golf?
slower
Elantra sport would be a better cheap alternative at least until the SI comes out.
Jeff K It's not slower. The Golf hits 60 in 6.8 seconds. The Civic did it in 6.2, according to Car and Driver.
yeah, I guess I was thinking GTI
Jeff K the new Elantra GT has the new 173hp motor, 6 speed manual, and the best power to weight ratio in its class. That's pretty impressive seeing how it's NA. Can't wait to drive one along with the Golf TSi and Civic Sport Hatch.

levon siekertzian Guess we will know in a couple of hours.
levon siekertzian
si - coupe and sedan
r - hatchback
THIS CAR LOOKS AMAZING! Now honda please update your cbr600rr motorcycle and my honda collection will be complete. ( And yes I even own Honda's power equipment :3 )
I wonder how it would compare to my Audi A3 Quattro
hey mr product planner...do you realize that the front looks like a crv....maybe honda should redesign the grill to give that civic a real sporty look
LMAO, he had to think really hard on any gud things to say about it...HAHAHAHHA
White one is the EX not LX
gotta say the cruze hatchback looks alot better from the rear then the civic does
shawn benfield the price for the crude hatchback is absolutely crazy!!! and size comparison or lack thereof should be considered to. but yes I agree the crude hatch is a sharp looking ride.
Hell no! It looks like a squashed bug front AND back!
It looks huuuuuuuuge!
not for all weather
I'll rather get a subi
Dont call it a comeback.
Lol
The red is bitchin!
Cvt is total CRAP! Subscribed.
Nice but I still don't like the new civics tail lights
28,000 dollars for the top sport model? Fuck you Honda. I'll spend a couple more and get a Mustang GT with 435 hp, and pretty damn good handling, and still be able to fit people in the back.
unreliablepoorresidual value poor mpg very heavy
all hondasresidual value three year period is 55 to 63 percent
Jeremy Metcalf can't move in winter way too heavy and impractical the honda he testdrive us 21000 lx is 19000
Re Mu ciivic the winner for mass transportation
whats mu
I have no doubt that these cars will run for 200,000 miles with very little trouble. I have no doubt that they will retain a good resale value. I still would not buy this car because it is just flat out ugly.
Red Horse looks better than u
Darryl Benson I bet the look is gonna grow on you.. at first I thought it was hideous, but now I think it isn't such a bad car..
I've never been a Honda person, but I like the look of this and the coupe. I usually go for VW and Mazda, but I'd consider one without question.
hater
The interior bits (cup holder, dash)sound cheap and hollow , c'mon Honda you can do better! Especially for how expensive this is. And TFL didnt show the actual dash from the sport trim, they used stock pics from the top trim.....the Sport has a tiny little screen not the big upgraded screen.
back looks like TC.... LOL
It kind of looks like a Hyundai Veloster, but with two real rear doors. The back exhaust is a direct ripoff of the Veloster.
$30k for 180hp? No thx
Why does the honda guy dress like a random guy off the street.
I'm the 1000th viewer, do I get a prize? :D
Chosen Architect a brand new civic hatchback
:-o O'yeAh! 😄
Looks terribly wrong
Golf,Mazda 3,Focus, and even new Opel Astra aka Chevy Cruze hatch looks way better
Manual!!!!
I love my India

Yaya first
To bad it's ugly
Its a styling mess, whats with the fake vents in the rear of the car. I do like the interior though.

CLMDADE your mom is ugly and that's being nice. Trust me.
it's so ugly
Honda need new car designer ugly shape !
