Wonderful how just a few documents take a half day to accomplish a permission to transit. It’s funny how Central America has a different twist on the food from one country to the next but still looks delicious. The burgers that Teal and Emma ordered looked like a high end restaurant and of course Linh you went traditional which looked like something you would serve. Hope entry into Panama goes smoothly as this anchorage has been smooth . Be careful and stay safe my friends God love ya .
I know. Cruising life is always about changes. I usually roll with it, but we were really hoping to get through the canal to meet up with some friends before they left. I just have to remind ourselves how lucky we are to be doing what we are doing.
What a lot of hassle to get out of the country. You have more patience than I do. Glad you received the good news to leave earlier especially with the good weather window coming up. It's so much fun watching your videos, it's just that they are finished so soon, I could watch you guys for hours. Safe travels and all the best preparing for your trip.
It sounds like things are working out. You are going to have a blast in the Carrabien. I really enjoy your vlogs. I wake up on Friday and think, "Oh, It's Onboard Lifestyles Day." I have plenty to do, but your videos are always a joy. Good luck with the Panama Canal. Thanks for taking the time to share your lives and travels.
Dogs fret when we leave them, they actually don't have an understanding that ur coming back. Big hugs for little man, there love is completely unconditional.
I know. We feel bad leaving him onboard, but sometimes the local animals are more aggressive and don't have current vaccines. We like to scope out the area before taking him to shore. He's pretty special to us.
Hi guys, I just want to say you’re one of the best sailing channels I watch the love you have for each other is incredible and you just have so much fun. Keep up the good work. Lots of love from Australia the thunder down under
I had to stop the video to write this message...Did you see Teal's face when you mentioned the free coupon's 😂 "Well we might as well stay here for a couple of days" Lol😂😂😂

Teal 10:58 you should have got another take of that, it didn't sound to convincing. You guys will definitely make the best of it we're look forward to the improv... a few minutes later.... whooo hooo.
I always heard the Costa Rica was a pain in the butt when it comes to leaving. With the good thing is Panama waters on the Pacific side and some of the best tuna fishing and bottom fishing you'll ever have so if you at least have that month try to enjoy some tuna fishing it's supposed to be incredible and a lot of the bottom fishing there's lots of huge red snappers and cabrilla
Once through the Panama Canal what are your cruising plans? Southeast along the Columbia coast then Aruba then north? Or up the east coast of Mexico the through the northern Gulf?
Golfito is a duty-free port, so all the "Tico's," -native Costa Rican's- go there to by stuff, like appliances... BTW: Tico is what they call themselves, so it is not at all offensive.
Knowing where you are now (I was following your canal trip and have pictures that I can't share with anyone of where your boat/home is parked), I hope everything is going well and you can continue your journey soon. Thanks for sharing with us!
Okay, not a good thing to have dropped on you suddenly. My suggestion is that you guys head up into the mountains and see some of the awesome national parks and whatnot Costa Rica has to offer. You may find that you like some of the places you visit as much as you did Santiago Atitlán. You can still cross the boarder on land and see much of Costa Rica from Panama as well as the Panama highlands.
Teal, im surprised you haven't tried filling the inside of your dinghy with a coating of liquid rubber or some such thing to seal your leaks. You know that stuff the guy makes boats out of screen doors stuff. Flexi-seal i think it is. Get a gallon of that liquid stuff and just pour it in and rotate your dinghy a few times. Or use that tire sealant green goop and do the same. Wont cost much and it won't make the boat worse off even if it doesn't work.
Our biggest issue is not having the right stuff for this type of application. We have been traveling through some areas that carry a very limited inventory of everything and not close to big cities.
May your transit be uneventful and an adventure of appreciation for the engineering of the Panama Canal. Many lives lost in its construction. Be safe and soon you can sail to Florida. You are welcome to stay in our home, if you like. We are known as great host by those who have stayed with us. God Bless. Bear 🐻
I really enjoy following you guys. However, what’s the motivation for going through the canal and head to throngs of sailers in the Caribbean. Turn right and head west across the pacific. Come see us in Thailand!!
Are you guys gonna ever cross the Atlantic, over to europe and maybe after europe the coas of africa and from there to indian ocean and to Asia, would be amazing seeing you guys make that kinda sailing trip ⛵️ ✌️🌹♥️👌🤙🫡
Sloths are not fast, they are elusive! 😜 Coming up on Episode #300!!! $30/week seems wonderfully affordable - can save up for the dinghy. The paperwork always seems an incredible over amount of processing. On to the canal! Donate for a Dream
Crazy, Costa Rica is too hard to check in out of, the country shore line is cutoff to yachts passing through, seems to me the cost of things to stay can be expensive and checkout is burdensome not worth the stay, I watch a lot of sailing channels and everyone has had negative things to say about checking in and out that they make it almost unbearable
While western Costa Rica is not a very cruiser friendly coastline, we wouldn't want to discourage anyone from doing it. Land travel is excellent and if we weren't so pressed for time, maybe we could've planned some inland travel and explorations. Compass was a factor as well as marina fees. The average cost for a catamaran moorage is $5 usd per foot per day. Yikes. 😬😬😬
Hello, wonderfull familly and journey. I am looking for a catamaran. I d like to know Basics length, witdh, weight ? What is you anchor type and weight, lenght off your chain, power of your windglass. Thank for your help.

I'm sure they could have made it a bit more complicated to exit if they really tried. 😳 Did you have an agent to walk you through all of that or do it yourself?
Lol, we did the checkout process ourselves. We learned from friends there is a specific sequence in order to checkout and the officials are not very helpful in making sure we doing it right. We only know this is the correct process otherwise, they will delay our checkout without an explanation, just that it's wrong. Go figure. 😅
Unbelievable... but from a documents req'd perspective... there are much worse places... Like the Philippines. Happy travels. Emma commented that it’s harder to turn ? Tohatsu usually has a friction knob that you can loosen and it will turn easier ( works good if it’s a kicker motor on a sailboat that you use the rudder for steering to “lock” it straight)
If Emma ever wanted to pursue a fashion modeling career I believe she would be very successful. Her face in the thumbnail is stunning. She resembles a young Adriana Lima.
Dang the logistics... It maybe took you half a day to do all that, but not mentioned, the half a day, ( plus) to learn what to do, and plan your steps... what a pain.. Your really think, these last line pirts of a country, would have some enterprising high school kid to have your day cut by 2/3rd's.. charge a few buck and provide a service.. Kids have such a chance to be begining entrepreneur, and help provide money to their families. Just not the energy i guess. I mean on an average how many cruisers a day or a week need all this done.. time equals money. Do 2 a week!!! Sounds like Panama, is making a killing for the locals to keep you captive in their ports and cities to spend baby spend!!! PS.. isnt the ARK rally in Nov??
Delays can change everything because cruisers pay attention to the upcoming hurricane season. A delay may effect our float plan. The weather in Panama turns quickly to lightning season and our hope is to make it through the canal before that happens.
If you noticed, for whatever reason, none of those boats have their pets onboard anymore. Since Covid, restrictions have tightened and getting more strict. Parlay had to leave their dogs in Tonga as they could not get them into New Zealand. Sailing Nandji also sent their dog back. We didn't want to take the risk of having to quarantine Compass or incurring additional costs or worse, not being admitted into the country.
The situation with the canal sounds like a typical third-world grift. Throw-up bureaucratic barriers which will magically disappear when money is placed in the right hands. 💸😮 What if any are the insurance implications of your delay? I live along the ICW near Southport, NC and starting May there is a steady stream of US and foreign flags cruiser who pass by to get out of the hurricane zone before June for insurance reasons.
No insurance implications at all. We are far enough south to be out of the path. For hurricanes to form you need to be at least 10 degrees from the equator and Panama is at 7-9 degrees. It takes time for a hurricane to rotate over warm ocean waters and Panama's location doesn't allow enough time for the eye to form.
Canal situation is due to water level of the lakes. With each passages it is dumped into the seas and it isnt replaced by river or rain at the same rate?..
