I had the unpleasant experience of having dengue. Don’t underestimate it. The feeling of being tired held on for several weeks after. Make sure you take your time… have some more of that lovely “pizza” and take rests. Guard your place by removing all standing water and use a ton of repellent to make sure no one else gets it. Take care
Glad to see that the Basik crew has weathered the storms and Teal's illness. I don't think that it was dengue fever because the symptoms don't appear to match - but you might want to have Teal get a check-up just in case. That deep dish pizza looked delicious, I will have to try your recipe - Thank you. Stay safe and enjoy life. Also, Remember to VOTE‼️ 💙🇺🇸💚👍😇
Rain equals clean air. Good to see Teal recovering from his illness. "Real Good" !!! A lot of different things can get you in the tropics. Thanks for the great adventure and God Bless
Hey Linh, That pizza looked great! There's another soup you can make (and you should like this one) called Arroz Caldo. This has a ton of Onion, Ginger and Garlic and helps quite a bit with the cold or a flu. Not sure how good it will be for Dengue. The garlic, onion and ginger are anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral, so not a bad thing to eat when under the weather. Ingredients: 2 chopped onions 4 inch long piece ginger finely chopped 2 ½ lbs chicken breast cubed 1 head of garlic finely chopped ½ oz vegetable oil 14 oz sweet rice - dried and uncooked (I use Sho-Chiku-Bai sweet rice from Koda Farms) 2 quarts Kitchen Basics chicken stock 4 scallions sliced 2 pinches of safflower Salt and pepper to taste Preparation: Use enough oil in a large pot to brown the garlic on medium low heat until golden. Remove from heat then remove half of the garlic and some oil and place in a small sauce pan. Continue browning the garlic in small sauce pan till it’s brown and a little crispy, set aside. Slice the scallions and set aside. Place the onions and ginger in the pot with the remaining garlic and sauté at medium low or just a little higher heat. When onions are soft, add the chicken and brown at medium heat. When the chicken starts to whiten add the sweet rice and continue browning the chicken mixture. When all the chicken is white, add the chicken stock and bring to boil. Cook on high heat for approximately one hour stirring often until the sweet rice begins to bloat. The soup will look like porridge and the sweet rice will be soft. Stir in the safflower and remove from heat. Serve the Arroz caldo and top with golden brown garlic and scallions to taste. NOTE: if you prefer, you can use much less sweet rice and the soup will be more like Western soups and won't be think like a porridge.

A short history about the black Christ in the Church of San Felipe. At minute 3:40 The Black Christ statue is believed to date back to the 17th century. However, the exact origins of the statue are shrouded in mystery, and several legends attempt to explain how it came to be in Portobelo. One of the most widely accepted stories is that the statue was found washed ashore in Portobelo’s harbor. According to the legend, a group of fishermen discovered the statue floating in the sea in the early 1600s. They brought it to shore and placed it in the local church. Another version of the story suggests that a ship carrying the statue was headed elsewhere, but due to a violent storm or some other divine intervention, it was forced to dock in Portobelo. Despite repeated attempts to continue their journey, the ship was unable to leave, and the statue was eventually left in the town. The Parish Church of San Felipe in Portobelo became the permanent home of the Black Christ, where it has been venerated for centuries. The figure is striking due to its dark skin color, which sets it apart from most traditional representations of Christ in the region. Many Panamanians and scholars believe that the Black Christ resonates with the Afro-descendant community in Portobelo, a town with a significant Afro-Caribbean population. For them, the statue represents both their cultural identity and their faith. The Black Christ is also seen as a symbol of suffering, redemption, and miracles. Many people visit the statue seeking healing or blessings, attributing miraculous powers to it. The most important celebration involving the Black Christ is held every year on October 21st, known as the Festival of the Black Christ or Cristo Negro de Portobelo. Thousands of pilgrims, many of them walking barefoot, crawl or carry heavy crosses as a sign of penance. The faithful often dress in purple robes to honor Christ’s suffering during the crucifixion. The centerpiece of the celebration is a procession through the streets of Portobelo, where the statue of the Black Christ is paraded by devoted followers. The pilgrimage often begins days before the event, with some participants traveling great distances in difficult conditions to show their devotion. This festival has become a vital part of the religious and cultural identity of Portobelo, blending Catholic traditions with the Afro-Panamanian heritage of the region.
When I had Dengue Fever I didn't have the sleep deprivation but I got a rash that stayed for 3 weeks and itched like heck. Hope teal feels better and the rest of you stay well.
Teal did have a rash. Not as severe as yours sounded like. All his symptoms were fairly mild which was why we were hoping it was just a cold of some sort. Whatever it was, it lingered for quite a while for the Captain.
Had a friend, who during Army basic training, would roll out of bed each morning and do 100 pushups. A while after basic ended (he took a break from his morning routine for a week). So he decided it was time to start again, couldn't make 50! That's how quickly our bodies react to stimulus. Would expect Teal to be noticeable weak after a week of bed rest😮. I bet he recovered quickly.
As always, a groovy episode. So sorry the Captain got so ill. The pizza looked fantastic, but the fort seems to help little with protecting it from every Country that attacked it.
Not related to this, but wondered if you knew that if you have a HOME AGAIN chip in "Compass" you have online VET CARE via the internet. It's really great in one of those times where your not sure to go to the vet or can't. They can also prescribe you an emergency kit for Compass. I keep vet wrap and bandages, Flagyl (metronidazole), cefllexin and topical ointments as well as benadryl for bites and stings.
Will the Basik helm be getting a pair of alternator indicators? These may also be useful for indicating sudden alternator failure, as they eventually do.
Okay, 3 things. 1) Glad you are better Teal 2) No snakes, nooooo snakes. How to make Brian scream like a 2 year old, show him a snake. No snakes 3) And now I must make Pizza for dinner because DAMN, that looked delicious!
We try to just move around, go on walks around towns or hikes. We are realizing now it is very important to do more to keep ourselves in shape. Been a little lazy and it is starting to show. Lol
Panama.. San Blas.. Cool!! What's the overall plan thereafter? Is there even a plan? Cartagena? Havana? Jamaica? Florida? Norfolk? Portugal? Please share. :)

FYI, according to the WHO there are two dengue vaccines that have been licensed, Dengvaxia, developed by Sanofi Pasteur, and Qdenga, developed by Takeda. Not all the vaccines are available everywhere. I think Dengvaxia is available in the USA and Qdenga in europe but that is just based on an internet search, not on actual knowledge.
Good Mornig fro Lodi, California. I love the history. It amazing me what man has done and what he is capable of. Thank you. I was thinking that men where sailing to the new world in the 1400's and then, 300 years later, in the 1700's they were building forts. Now, another 300 year it's the 2000's. I began thinking that is a total of 600 years and what will another 300 years take us. I thought of Adam, in the Bible, he lived 930 year. It puts things into a little better perspective of what could have happened before the flood, which was 1656 years, from Adam leaving the Garden. In my mind I was breaking it down into 300 year intervals. I wonder what man really did accomplish before the flood.
A UA-camr from Thailand died recently from dengue. Apparently dengue is more deadly the second time you catch it. There is a vaccine for dengue though.
The other 🦟 born disease that's spreading is West Nile fever 🤒 given increased temperatures globally the nasty Perishes have been spreading into previously temperate zones .. the other possibility is Mono as you guys call it ...Glandular fever . That will have you sleeping round the clock ... liver and spleen tends to swell and you're going to be weak and tired for Six weeks ... avoid alcohol for a few months... Or you will feel beat again.... you may get relapses if you do, get it checked. It can get more serious in a few people. I know it's been hammering people out in Thailand as the Tiger Mosquitos that carry it are endemic to the region. Break bone fever gives you an idea of how bad it can get. 🥵🥶🥵😖
As Dengue is somewhat different because of its four subtypes it’s quite dangerous on secondary infections. There is a titer antibody test available to check if someone has been infected recently. Mortality rate at first infections is about 1% but that goes up to 20% if the secondary is a different subtype. That’s because of the fact that the body reacts to the type from that first infection and needs more time to adapt and fight the different subtype. Good thing there is now two types of vaccines available, the first one hasn’t widely available and limited to certain people but the second one called Qdenga® is in many countries available now without that restriction. Might be to consider if travel plans include the typical dengue transmission mosquito infested areas.
When I was in the Army at Fort Davis, Fort Gulick and Fort Sherman from 1966 to 1967, the Canal Zone Government sprayed for Mosquitoes every night to keep their population down. I don't think the Panamanian Government does that any longer. That could be why the tropical diseases are spreading. Loved seeing and feeling the great history of Panama when I was there. Didn't like living in the jungle all that much. LoL

Do you have the bread recipe typed out somewhere?
Not related to this, but wondered if you knew that if you have a HOME AGAIN chip in "Compass" you have online VET CARE via the internet. It's really great in one of those times where your not sure to go to the vet or can't. They can also prescribe you an emergency kit for Compass. I keep vet wrap and bandages, Flagyl (metronidazole), cefllexin and topical ointments as well as benadryl for bites and stings.
Will the Basik helm be getting a pair of alternator indicators? These may also be useful for indicating sudden alternator failure, as they eventually do.
Emma: Man, this is one of my favorites. Dad's influence?
Hi Linh, where can I find your recipes?
Now that's a Pizza
😊😊😊
Okay, 3 things.
1) Glad you are better Teal
2) No snakes, nooooo snakes. How to make Brian scream like a 2 year old, show him a snake. No snakes
3) And now I must make Pizza for dinner because DAMN, that looked delicious!
1) Thank you. 🙏
2) Snakes bad. 🐍
3 ) Pizza good. 🍕
What do you do to keep your fitness?
We try to just move around, go on walks around towns or hikes. We are realizing now it is very important to do more to keep ourselves in shape. Been a little lazy and it is starting to show. Lol
Panama.. San Blas.. Cool!! What's the overall plan thereafter? Is there even a plan? Cartagena? Havana? Jamaica? Florida? Norfolk? Portugal? Please share. :)
Linh what bug spray are you using against Dengue. Heading down early October. Also you didn’t really talk about the anchor drag. Did it hook or did Emma let out more chain. Glad everything worked out. Maybe you can do a safety preparation video. Thx
Teal. My good friend 65years old, got bitten by a mosquito in Mexico. Went to the doctor there and was giving a shot of some kind and quickly had a massive heart attack and died. Don’t want you to worry, but be carful of getting a shot from the doctor,s down there
That pizza 🍕 look delicious 🍕😋😋😋❤️❤️😍😍👍👍⛵️⛵️⛵️
FYI, according to the WHO there are two dengue vaccines that have been licensed, Dengvaxia, developed by Sanofi Pasteur, and Qdenga, developed by Takeda. Not all the vaccines are available everywhere. I think Dengvaxia is available in the USA and Qdenga in europe but that is just based on an internet search, not on actual knowledge.
Welcome to the Caribbean during hurricane season! 👍
Yes! Thank you! Lol
We need a Banh Mi recipe
We did! Check out episode 281

Haven’t heard from you in two weeks, hope everything is good with Teal and you girls!
Teal got sick again and wasn't up to getting a video out last week. I'm assuming there will be one tomorrow.
Terri[fic family. Pizza looked fantastic
That's awful to hear that. Yes, there is a vaccine for dengue just not available here in Panama. At least that we are aware of.
I could smell the pizza from here:)) Good job, and I hope all are healthy. John 5:24
LoL
Question:
Do you use an anchor alarm and that is what alerted Emma to the situation, or if not, will you use one now? (Note: I use one, 'Anchor Pro' and it has saved my bacon more than once)
We do use an anchor alarm, but somehow it was disabled during the time we drug anchor. Luckily, Emma noticed her surroundings and realized we were dragging through the fleet.
You could soooo have your own cooking channel!
I think it's time you install a marine air conditioner Teal.
They don't have enough electrical power to run one, otherwise they'd probably have one.
3:10 Linh, Love the hat! . . . Emma, Why no hat? . . . Teal, You can do better.
Thanks! I love my hat too! Emma needs a new one. 😊👒
@@linhgobenyt Can you pass a hat to Emma? Do you wear the same size?
Have you seen the song I wrote about Emma with the dragging anchor? "We've got an anchor to ride"
wondering how much time elapses between filming and airing. often seems like several weeks and you have already made many miles before we see the final product.
👌👏👏
Yummylish, dish delish...
😎
Linh, your an excellent cook! I'd be fat and happy if you cooked for me. Does Emma do most of the editing on your videos?
Thanks Robert! Emma does the graphics while the Captain does the editing. I just make sure they are well fed, clean and clothed. Lol
@@OnboardLifestyle So if not for you everyone would be hungry, dirty, and naked? How embarrassing that would be!
👍👍👍
those are the symptoms of dengue and you will have relapses
Silly me I thought you were going to pour the wine over the dough.
🤣🤣🤣🍷🍷
😁
Where’s linh’s cook book???
FDT! the felon
I’ll call Uber Eats. Please put a pizza in the oven. 😂🥇
Lol. I'm on it!
👍🧿
That sounds like you got bit by an infected tsetse fly, all the sleeping doesn't quite fit Dengue, but I could be wrong.
He also had a high fever, vomiting, achy and had a small rash. The only thing he didn't have was nose bleeds and easy bruising. We were so hopeful it wasn't Dengue, but we think that it was.
LINH TOO SHORT TO SEE IN THE WINDOWS 😅😊😂😅😊😂😊😅
Check Teal for Lime disease that could be what had him bed ridden
Just asking, can’t you get immunization for what ever bug causes the dengue fever?
Linh said in another comment that the immunization isn't available where they are.
Wonder if you had trypanosomiasis - sleeping sickness?
With dengue cases spiking in the area and about 10-20 insect bites a day, it's still a tough call.
:)
