Only die-hard Goosebumps fans will realize just how clever the Goosebumps movies really are! First of all, using the typewriter from the book "The Blob That Ate Everyone" as a way to get every Goosebumps monster in the movie is SUCH a smart and cool idea! Secondly, the main character in "The Blob That Ate Everyone" is a kid named Zack, the same name of the main character in the movie, and both book Zack and movie Zack have to use their imaginations essentially in order to save everyone at the end. You have the character of Hannah, a friendly, helpful ghost who lives next door. Same as Hannah from the book "The Ghost Next Door". In the second Goosebumps film there is a scene involving Slappy walking down a hallway at night, clutching a Screwdriver menacingly, which almost perfectly mirrors a scene in one of the "Night of the Living Dummy" books, (I can't remember which one, it's been awhile since I read them), where Slappy is walking down a hallway at night, clutching a paintbrush. Not to mention all the fun Easter eggs in the films such as the R.L Stine cameos, the Coo-coo clock of doom in Stine's basement, and the shrunken heads in his dining room! I'm sure there's more I missed, but I can't think of any others right now.
You must be a really big fan. I love Goosebumps but I missed a few of what you said so I'm glad you brought these up. I even have a poster! Some books in this film are; Let's Get Invisible, Night of the Living Dummy, The Blob that Ate everyone, The Ghost Next Door, A Shocker on Shock Street, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes, The Curse of the Mummys tomb, Please Don't feed the vampire, The Haunted Car, A Nightmare on Clown Street, The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena, The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, Attack of the Graveyard Ghouls, Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Mask, Attack of the Jack O Lanterns, etc
@@ninjabunnywholivesinsideaw8216 Also these are just my theories; but the abandoned amusement park(where Zack and Hannah sneak off to with the fun house and the ferris wheel) could be a reference to One Day At Horrorland, and the song that plays during the dance, Heads Will Roll is probably a nod to the book, Heads You Lose, then there's the abnormally large bees which are based off the book, Why I'm afraid of Bees, and when Stine is in an auditorium typing out a story, this probably refers to Phantom of the Auditorium, and at the end of the film the Invisible boy writes his revenge on the typewriter with his handprint on the glass and in the SlappyWorld series there's a book called Revenge of the Invisible Boy. 😁
The gnome scen where Jack Black's character is being tied is probably a reference to his role as Gulliver in Gulliver's Travels (2011) film. I hope you react to that movie as well.
I know some fans of the series likely complained about not getting an adaptation of any of the actual books, but I think the reason why didn’t is because none of the Goosebumps novels are long enough to get a 90 minute to two hour movie out of.
Oh damn this is a nostalgia blast 😂 I can't believe it's been 8 years already!!! I guess I gotta find my old goosebumps books now haha. Btw they used a lot of sound effects from the Goosebumps games which is really cool
I remember being so excited when this hit theaters. I had some of the books and a few box sets of the show and they traumatized me as a child. They still kinda freak me out now. The comedy hits and I love the concept. I'm curious how good the new show will be.
Hannah died in a accident that caught her house on fire and she herself went through the emotions of her life day after day unaware the things around her had changed, in the story she came back to save a boy named Danny from a shadow entity who tries to kill him and take over his form so he could have a shape, a body.
Fun fact xD The house used for Stine’s in this film belongs to a relative of a friend of ours. I actually stayed there in Atlanta during a hurricane evacuation for a bit and it was fun to see all the rooms they used and the neighborhood. They talked about the filming process and what it’s like having your house used for a movie. Was a lot of fun!
one thing about the goosebumps books that a lot of people forgot (or didn't know entirely) is that they have the same concept as the Stephen King books. They are all set in the same universe, same world, every once in a while the same characters are mentioned in sequels and even the same locations are mentioned again sometimes too...a few examples: Slappy the Dummy (from Night of the Living Dummy), Cursed Camps (numerous books), Say Cheese and Die, Horrorland (which not only has it's own series but is mentioned in reference in at least 3 or 4 other Goosebumps books that i think of). Monster Blood. Honestly the number of times the series interconnects is amazing.
I love this movie so very much! I remember watching it: back then in 2015 on Halloween/Fall season! Good old memories. I've also read every book too in elementary school, eating treats 👻🎃🍭🍫🍬
Personally, the original Goosebumps series was my favorite - I remember watching them as a kid, and being so scared of them, but the intro was creepy, and that classic Goosebumps music was something else... and that dog! XD
Damn, They needed to make part 3 because we need to reunite all the cast lol. I miss this movie, the aesthetic and nostalgia made me feel like im a kid again lol
I'm so glad you guys are finally watching this movie, when I first saw it I loved It!, R.L Stein is actually coming to my library later this month and I can't wait to get his autograph!
The problem with critics these days is actually starting to spread to the general public. These days people go into every experience ( music, movies etc) viewing it through the lense of what don’t I like about this? Even movies that pretty much everyone agrees are spectacular you always have people nitpicking and ignoring all the great things about it. Honestly it’s getting really annoying. We all have different tastes not everything has to be your favorite, but people have forgotten there is a huge difference between something is not your cup of tea and something that is actually bad. You not liking something doesn’t mean it’s not good. For example with singers. There is a specific set of criteria that mean someone can sing. Being able to sing doesn’t mean you have perfect technique 100% of the time. There are people that can sing with good voices, but people try to say they can’t sing because they aren’t perfect at it or they don’t like their style of music or singing. It’s just wild to me.
If anyone has ever seen the goosebumps show or read the books: which are your top three stories? Mine are The Werewolf of Fever Swamp The Haunted Mask The Phantom of the Auditorium
Heavy on Haunted Mask & The Phantom I was def into Goosebumps tho its a vague memory as well. Just remember certain key characters that scared me or the designs were cool or the story writing.
R.L Stine actually helped with this movie and the second . And the fear street trilogy. And there are rumours that R.L Stine said that there will be more goosebumps and fear street movies! So I hope that those rumours are true!
This movie was fantastic in my mind. The books were very kid centric, the tv show had amazing practical effects and campiness, and the people behind the movie really utilized every part of that. I legitimately doubt the film could have been made any better. It’s exactly what it needed to be.
If there is anything I've learned from watching this movie, which was based on one of my favorite 90's TV shows from childhood, it was to never, EVER, compare Mr. Shivers AKA R.L. Stine to The Master of Horror himself, Stephen King!!!!🤣
This is kind of off topic, but I'd be interested to see you guys watch this show called "My Babysitters A Vampire". It has different kinds of monsters and spooky creatures in it. You'd have to watch the movie first though cause it sets up the show.
The boy who plays Champ is also in Super 8. He’s just as good In that movie as he is in here. I hope you guys check that out if you haven’t seen it it’s one of my favorite sci-if movies! And as always great reaction, this movie is great😂!!!!
It’s so good that this is only a movie and that real cops aren’t like that female cop who immediately gets hostile and goes for her gun if you say a single thing.
I love the R.L. Stine books and the movies growing up as a kid. Now I’m an adult and met R.L. Stine at a book signing a few days ago. He’s the nicest person ever.
I'm still reeling from Monster house. Goosebumps was what made me get into writobg short horror stories (writing since I was a kid.) Goosebumps is great in terms of introducing horror to children. So good.
I loved reading Goosebumps books in middle school, I used to hate reading but only a few books got my attention. In 2019 I started reading Goosebumps again and I love the horror, mystery and the way the stories are told. This movie was fun too.
I love this movie too, like its hard for the main characters but i never realized that Hannah is one the characters thats belonging to the book It self

I watched this as a pre teen and found it slightly funny and a medium amount of scary, now that I’m nineteen, rewatching this, it’s a lot funnier than I remember.
i have never read the books but grew up on the show i was about a minute in on the new show and just turned it off people say its a teen drama and thats something i just dont get into before i forget i thought these films were fine, RL Stine is considered the stephen king for middle school kids!

Such an underrated movie, scary enough for kids and entertaining enough for everyone else. Surprised this movie didn’t get more attention.

The mask
The one with the zombies and the finale shot shows the dog has glowing eyes. That has stayed with me for 24 years.

I remember that as a 2-parter in the _Goosebumps_ TV series. That entity was perhaps the scariest thing in the series for me.
25:38 Yeah, Fifi’s not an Alien Dog,…. 25:40 SHE’S A VAMPIRE DOG!
I'm incredibly surprised Greg called the twist so early. Hindsight is 20/20 looking back the hints are all there.
