People forget that there was an actual v-chip at the time. It was hardware-based censorship for TVs. Quite controversial, and this movie is a direct reference/response
The amount of tap dancing they are doing by them not liking the movie is hilarious. I loved this movie, but not everything is for everyone. It's OK not to like something others enjoy. Like what you like and don't like what you don't.
Just my opinion, but it reminds me of when Cartman was trying to cancel Family Guy, or when an actor someone normally doesn't enjoy does a great job and they still try to find a way to say why they didn't like the movie.

George Clooney is the reason south park came to be. He sent the Spirit of Christmas video around after paying them to make him something to send as a christmascard
Fun facts that’s probably been said in the video: • In the Guinness World Records 2001, this film was said to have the most profanity used in an animated film. The book cited a total of 399 swear words, including 146 uses of the word "f***," along with 199 offensive gestures and 221 acts of violence. This movie was the highest-grossing R-rated animated film until Sausage Party outgrossed it in 2016. This film originally had an NC-17 rating. • if y’all already knew, George Clooney was the voice of the doctor in the movie. • When the children are in rehab a poster in the back of Mr. Mackey's room reads, "Get High!!! On Pottery," which was a quote from a high school teacher of Matt Stone's. The original quote was, "Son, you need to know not to use pot as a natural high. Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery." • In the credits both Saddam Hussein (Matt Stone) and Satan (Trey Parker) are listed as playing themselves. • Trey Parker and Matt Stone did not need to get Brian Boitano's permission to use his name and likeness for the song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" A few years later Boitano did need to get, and received, Parker and Stone's permission to use the phrase on T-shirts that he sold for charity. • James Hetfield of Metallica sings "Hell Isn't Good." • The song "Blame Canada" was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, but it lost to Phil Collins' "You'll Be In My Heart" (from Tarzan (1999)). In return, Trey Parker and Matt Stone ridiculed Collins in the fourth season of South Park (2000). • Tweek was the only series regular not to appear in this film at all. Cartman calls "The Mole" (the French boy) British. On the TV show, he called Pip (the English boy) French. • This film marked the first time in the entire series that Kenny is seen without his hood on. • When Kenny uncovers his face at the end and says "goodbye you guys" the voice of Kenny is portrayed by Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head. Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef on South Park, had previously sang the opening credits theme music to Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.
Also, the original title for the movie was going to be "South Park, Hell on Earth", but apparently, you're not allowed to use the word "Hell" in a title. And since the movie committee had refused several of their scripts, they used "Bigger, Longer and Uncut" as a placeholder, fully expecting the movie committee to reject it as well.
Brian Boitano actually skated to a version of "What Would Brian Boitano do". The video is here on UA-cam. Brian Dennehy was an actor. He played the sheriff in Rambo and Tom Callihan Sr in Tommy Boy.
Matt tells a story about the making of this film about the MPAA making them take the word "rimjob" out. They took it out, added a tonne more violence...then put "rimjob" back and the MPAA didn't notice. They meta irony of this film is unparalleled.
I appreciate you being honest in your review and not pretending to enjoy it if you didnt. That being said, I don't understand why it was decided that two people who aren't even really familiar with SP would react to the film? It's fine that regardless this still wouldn't have been your sort of comedy, but so much would have seemed nonsensical without the context of SP lore
Not everything has to be parsed down to its smallest atom. Some things aren't meant to be that deep. And I think that trying to over analyze something sometimes gets in the way of actually enjoying it for what it is. It's a cartoon movie, not a wine tasting lol
I saw this in a packed theater on the night it came out. I've never laughed so hard as I did that night. Honestly, we couldn't hear half of the dialogue because the whole theater was laughing. It was such a singular, extreme departure from everything else I'd ever seen on screen before then. It was great.
Not to mention the first film they released was Cannibal: the musical, their second film Orgazmo was originally pitched as a musical and Team America is also technically a musical.
Bandana guy just needs to not be on reactions 😂🤦🏼can tell he’s younger than me with his pissy attitude and you just get the feeling he’s like the others that think they’re better
Just my opinion, but I feel like you have to be a part of this era to truly appreciate this movie. I feel like younger generations are too sensitive to truly see this movie for the masterpiece that it is, but that’s just my two cents.
Matt & Trey love musicals!! They wrote the hit show Book of Mormon!! It’s similar to how the family guy creator also loves musicals which is why family guy is full of musical references and scenes & the opening is a parody of a the musical a Chorus Line.
If anything it was a good reminder to me to stop watching so many reaction channels. Originally it was people who were really passionate about a certain show or genre. Now it’s content farms edited by corporations.
@@procrastinator547 Yeah or to only watch the good ones. This ain't it. They spent half the time holding a conversation about what they think they know about south park in general. Good reactors focus on the actual movie.
Its ironic the kids that saw this 25 years ago obviously missed the point. Nothings changed parents still cast the blame to someone else instead of themselves. In fact it's worse. Yeah Les Mis is all through and Satan’ssong was the Little Mermaid. Trey is a musical fan boy.
I have a family friend who was a broadway musical critic for the New York Times. He is gay. He and his partner loved this movie, and said that when it was released, they felt it had the most progressive portrayal of a homosexual character in mainstream hollywood. It always cracks me up to think about that, because that character is Satan. The audience has a lot of prejudice against him because he's the devil (lol), but we watch the character grow and come to understand and accept him. Ultimately, he is the hero who saves the world by finding inner strength and self-acceptance.
why does that guy keep saying "1999". What does the year have anything to do with anything? Do they actually think people didn't swear in 1999? They completely missed the point of the movie.
When watching a movie from the early 2000s or older, many reactors will frequently mention when the movie was made, sometimes just to explain why they haven't seen it yet--because they were too young when it came out or hadn't even been born yet. (This isn't always believable because many of these movies are still very popular, frequently shown on TV, or otherwise easily available.) Sometimes it's to praise how well the movie has held up or how good the special effects are, either for the time or even in comparison to movies made today. Sometimes its thinly veiled condescension towards a movie that they consider to be "old" and dated. Sometimes they're just expressing their curiosity or astonishment about how different things were or how much things have changed. In this case, they seemed to be trying to understand the movie in the context of when it was made, which I'll give them credit for, but they were doing a lot of guessing and many of their guesses were wrong. They don't understand this movie as well as they think they do, so their criticism reflects their own ignorance and lack of understanding rather than being a valid evaluation of the quality of the movie or its humor. It might have been better for them to have shown a little more humility and just admitted that they didn't get it.
It was mainly the show that didn't feature so much bad language, as well as movies not quite being so vulgar at the time especially a show that kids watched. They were almost at the point, but totally missed it somehow.
This movie was one i watched on my 18th bday with my friends, in 2004 lmao. I have nothing but good memories about this bc if you didn't watch the new south park episode in high school you had nothing to talk about with your friends at school 😂
You are correct that South Park is known for commenting on current events. For the regular episodes they produce each episode so fast that they can make a whole episode about an event that is only a few days old. You should watch the documentary "Six Day to Air" which is a behind the scenes look at the production of one episode.
I was going to say that too but they did lose with Cartoon Wars and Episode 200 and 201. Sadly people weren’t open to the message about the censorship of Mohammad.
In the most asinine way possible, talking over the movie and jokes constantly, not getting most of it and thinking this movie isn't relevant in the era everything is censored by the corporations, esp. the platform they're on? Yeah, about right.
I feel bad for the editors on this one, lol. Trying to think of nice things to say, but realistically, it wasn't too much of a reaction? More of a commentary on how you feel comedy has devolved or evolved and a bunch of other stuff. I say this as someone who really stopped liking South Park basically after this movie, but maybe sometimes you guys should be able to veto or stop a movie part way through? That way the editors aren't getting this shoved into the pipeline and a more easily edited movie or reaction might be put in its place? Most reactions are ones where I really just enjoy the ride and it's great background noise. But this ride felt like you both wanted off the entire time, and not while laughing. Maybe if Greg was reacting to it while also needing to handle the censorship himself, it could have caused a very fun meta loop of him commentating on needing to censor stuff that is also about censorship? Either way, I'd say I regret watching the reaction about as much as Coy and Aaron seemed to regret filming it. And I say it in a way that isn't meant to be negatives towards them, mostly just that I'm surprised this got uploaded lol. I would have absolutely LOVED to see them rip on the movie, but because they felt they couldn't, it was super artificial when these two are like, the most real on some other stuff.
Before they made the movie, SP was literally animated with cut paper. They made a computer system to animate the movie, which they still use. It allows them to put out a half-hour animated show in about 4 days.
I saw this in the theatre and there was a very old man sitting by himself on the end of our row. When the movie started he was smiling and looked so happy to be there. When the song "Uncle F******" came on, I watched the smile drop and a look of confusion go over his face, he was looking around at everyone in complete shock. He clearly had no idea what South Park was prior to this movie, he stormed out of there furious.
He was also in Coccoon (1985), a movie that was pretty big at the time but seems to have been forgotten--I'm surprised it doesn't show up on reaction channels since, generally speaking, most reaction channels include a lot of hit movies from the 80s.
@@ericjette2435 Cocoon is not available on any streaming services. There is a problem with music copywrite issues, although the inevitable conspiracy theories suggest there is more to it. Same reason you don't see any reactions to the movie Heavy Metal.
This was "shocking" for normal people back in the day. When South Park was allowed to say the word shit on TV for the first time, they made a whole episode dedicated to it. They even had a counter down in the bottom counting how many times they said it, which was over 200 times. Everyone at the time, thought maybe they'd say it once or twice.
One of the funniest moments of my childhood was when I saw the scene of Cartman weaponizing the V Chip and cursing like there was no tomorrow. I had to pause the movie because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe.🤣🤣🤣
Greatest TV Comedy of all time and still going. Remember seeing this in the theatre not knowing what to expect since the TV show was already the best. Movie is still great and relevant to this day.
Fun Fact: this whole movie was a self commentary on how parents hated South Park and wanted it to get canceled. So yes in a way Terrance and Philip IS Mat Stone And Trey Parker self inserts! 🍿 Also another Fun Fact: @51:14 that was also one of the biggest moment in the movie because that was a Kenny Face reveal AND the first time that we've heard his voice. He's also voiced by non other Mike Judge. The creator of Beavis and Butthead and King Of The Hill!
Talking while Terrence and Philip are doing their fart solos is criminal. Ya'll talk to much. Watch and enjoy. too much chatter made you miss a lot of gold moments
The movie was definitely a sort of reward for the established South Park audience at the time. The show was already beloved for being edgy and pushing boundaries. The movie was them able to go full throttle with it for the first time. It also showcased their ability to make a great musical. If you’ve never seen The Book of Mormon, that would be fun the check out. It was created by Matt and Trey. Anyway, it’s always great to watch you guys!
Matt and Trey are actually both from Colorado, hence the shows setting. They attended CU together and collaborated on their first projects there, including the first South Park pilot. Also some things that did not come to mind for me in the moment but I did remember I wanted to include. The entire premise for this movie actually is a redo of one of the early South Park episodes where similarly Terrance and Phillip are blamed for corrupting the youth and Shiela (Kyle's mom) becomes an activist against them. The movie takes the prior premise to an entirely new level but the "Kyle's Mom" song originated from that episode in a more simplistic form. Stan in the early seasons had a major crush on Wendy, but also had an uncontrollable sense of nervousness whenever she spoke to him. The running joke was that being unable to handle his nerves Stan would always vomit in Wendy's presence, sabotaging his chances with her. Even so Wendy seemed to always return and they did eventually become a couple. Ike, Kyle's younger brother is voiced by a few different people over the years, but probably most notable was Trey Parker's own daughter for a time. For the film he was voiced by Jesse Howell. Matt and Trey share many interests that led them to becoming friends but the love of musicals seems to be something they both discovered together. When they received several awards for the music in Bigger Longer and Uncut, they took it as inspiration to work on a musical of their own resulting in The Book of Mormon which itself won several awards and accolades as a Broadway show.
such a weird take on this movie - really shows that not having ever seen South Park and not understanding the point kind of makes the whole thing go over your head
I never seen bigger wafflers in my life. This is right up there with the 2 ladies that watched LOTR and didn't pay attention at all. Then watch the Hobbit movies and are clueless.
Brian Boytano was a dated reference at that point - an Olympic ice skater. Brian Dennehy was an actor - known for playing strong, often arrogant characters. He was the police chief in First Blood (the first Rambo movie) and a ton of other things throughout the years
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and then when I got a bit older going online and looking up who Brian Boytano was, it had been on my mind for years 😂 I’m in Scotland and I don’t think anyone I knew had a clue who he was
Stone and Parker had one shot with their movie, and they chose to make the plot about parents getting pissy about letting their kids see an age-inappropriate movie. The meta-ness couldn't be beat.
Kenny's always comes back to life because he is connected to the powers of the deity Cthulhu and his parents' involvement in a cult. Every time Kenny dies, he wakes up in his bed the next morning, and no one remembers his death. This is portrayed as a curse, with Kenny himself being aware of it but unable to explain it fully to others.
Coy and aaron, I'm happy you both liked the messaging of the movie. Even though the humor wasn't for you both. I watched this on comedy central's secret stash. When i was 14. My sense of humor is rather more on the dark comedy side and the absurdist side. Thanks guys for giving it a go. See you guys next time.
To be fair, they are not the only reactors that do that. I understand that their job is performative and that they have to be talking or otherwise "reacting" to keep the audience engaged. (Also, as I understand it, it helps them to avoid copyright claims.) However, a good reactor knows when pay attention and holds their comments for breaks in the action and/or dialogue so that they don't miss important stuff. It's very annoying when reactors criticize a movie for something it didn't do or because they didn't understand something that was clearly explained or they missed important plot points because they were talking over the movie--I'm speaking generally and not about this specific reaction, but I do hope the folks over at Reel Rejects see this comment and take it to heart.

17 yr old understands things a bit differently than an eleven yr old, my dude.. ...
@AnimeComicBlerd I don't think he was referencing the movie, more than the satire and culture references at that specific time
@@chrisretzlaff2895How does he not understand what a Vchip is then?
People forget that there was an actual v-chip at the time. It was hardware-based censorship for TVs. Quite controversial, and this movie is a direct reference/response
The guys who wrote this all wrote the Book of Mormon, a Tony award winning broadway musical😂
The biggest joke of this reaction is watching two guys feel uncomfortable watching 90's humor.
the 90's humor wasn't the problem. i mean coy likes the american pie films.
@@cmfav6996He enjoys a teenager putting his member in a dessert more than the South Park movie.... I'm totally fine being in disagreement.

No more comedies for you guys. I think you're overthinking them.
Hear hear, this was painful.
Exactly what I was thinking. They were WAY overthinking this for deeper meanings. Of course they are not going to enjoy this.
I also think, as soon as they realized it was a musical, they tuned out, and thus missed so much value.
Thank you. Not gonna waste time watching this reaction
💯
The amount of tap dancing they are doing by them not liking the movie is hilarious. I loved this movie, but not everything is for everyone. It's OK not to like something others enjoy. Like what you like and don't like what you don't.
Why did they even watch the movie if they clearly aren’t fans of the show. It’s not like it’ll be different and change their minds. Lol
Just my opinion, but it reminds me of when Cartman was trying to cancel Family Guy, or when an actor someone normally doesn't enjoy does a great job and they still try to find a way to say why they didn't like the movie.
great satire is lost on you guys
I saw this in theaters with my Grandpa... When i was 13. I remember just side eyeing him the entire movie. Waiting for the inevitable moment where he stood up and we left... Man was a G. We watched the whole movie.
I saw it again the last couple of months in theater for its anniversary karaoke re-release.
Missed ya big guy
George Clooney is the reason south park came to be. He sent the Spirit of Christmas video around after paying them to make him something to send as a christmascard
Didnt stop Matt and Trey from calling him out on his "smug" oscar speech.. which is why you havsnt seen him do another cameo. 😂
What?
Fun facts that’s probably been said in the video:
• In the Guinness World Records 2001, this film was said to have the most profanity used in an animated film.
Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery."
• In the credits both Saddam Hussein (Matt Stone) and Satan (Trey Parker) are listed as playing themselves.
• James Hetfield of Metallica sings "Hell Isn't Good."
• The song "Blame Canada" was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, but it lost to Phil Collins' "You'll Be In My Heart" (from Tarzan (1999)).
Brian Boitano still to this day has his twitter (X) profile pic as his character from the movie, legend!
Beavis and Butthead Do America is a good one
Brian Boitano actually skated to a version of "What Would Brian Boitano do". The video is here on UA-cam. Brian Dennehy was an actor. He played the sheriff in Rambo and Tom Callihan Sr in Tommy Boy.
He was in a bunch of things. He was a pretty well known actor in the 60’s-late 90’s. I just checked wiki & he’s been in 180+ movies, tv shows & plays.
He was in 10, hence the joke in Tommy Boy, FX and FX 2 were ok, but Silverado was great. And Legal Eagles is one of my favorites
Matt tells a story about the making of this film about the MPAA making them take the word "rimjob" out. They took it out, added a tonne more violence...then put "rimjob" back and the MPAA didn't notice. They meta irony of this film is unparalleled.
My favorite story was them stealing the original trailer so nobody would have to see it.
you can always tell when these guys don't expect to like something and follow through xD
36:10 - The guy who has Kenny on his helmet, in remembrance of Kenny, is in fact Kenny's father. It was just a nice touch by Stone and Parker.
But why would they know that. After all... this isnt ANIME
Easy answer. For content. This channel has gone down hill.
yeah i feel like the other people from this channel would’ve been a better pick to watch the movie
Not everything has to be parsed down to its smallest atom. Some things aren't meant to be that deep. And I think that trying to over analyze something sometimes gets in the way of actually enjoying it for what it is. It's a cartoon movie, not a wine tasting lol
Some things aren't meant to be that deep, but if you think this movie isn't one of them, your media literacy sucks.
I saw this in a packed theater on the night it came out. I've never laughed so hard as I did that night. Honestly, we couldn't hear half of the dialogue because the whole theater was laughing. It was such a singular, extreme departure from everything else I'd ever seen on screen before then. It was great.
You'd probably enjoy.... Winnie the Pooh. CANT GUARANTEE YOU'LL GET IT THO
Actually, Coy's 3rd favorite comedy.
Brian Dennehy was an actor with alot of film credits, he died a few years ago, also big gay al is a South Park character, they still use him sometimes
Yes, a musical written by the guys who later wrote The Book of Mormon. Shocking.
Not to mention the first film they released was Cannibal: the musical, their second film Orgazmo was originally pitched as a musical and Team America is also technically a musical.
This is such a coy movie when you get past the crudeness(which is kinda south parks point), Trey and Matt are truly artists
Bandana guy just needs to not be on reactions 😂🤦🏼can tell he’s younger than me with his pissy attitude and you just get the feeling he’s like the others that think they’re better
Not sure I think the guy on the left is worse. He kept starting off topic conversations resulting in them missing a lot.
Just my opinion, but I feel like you have to be a part of this era to truly appreciate this movie. I feel like younger generations are too sensitive to truly see this movie for the masterpiece that it is, but that’s just my two cents.
I wasn't born when this movie came out and i can still very much like the show. I think some people just don't comprehend satire somehow
Yeah it’s definitely of the time. I haven’t seen it since then and even im a bit confused lol
@@spds488agreed, I was born in 02 and I was definitely loving this movie when I first saw it
Hard disagree, South Park hit its peak viewership last season, and the movie has been blowing up for the last 2 years on streaming
Not true at all. My kids are 22 and 18 and they absolutely love it. It's about having a good sense of humour and satire. It's ageless and timeless
Matt & Trey love musicals!! They wrote the hit show Book of Mormon!! It’s similar to how the family guy creator also loves musicals which is why family guy is full of musical references and scenes & the opening is a parody of a the musical a Chorus Line.
Their first "major" release was Cannibal the Musical, which lead to Trey failing/dropping out of university/college.
Sondheim called this the best musical of its generation
The "Not suitable for children" is actually a crack at the Prime drink lol
This movie came out in 1999, Prime was released in 2022. There's no way this referenced something that came out 23 years later

@@procrastinator547 I agree.
THANK YOU!!
Yeah, as far as "reactors" go.... this aint it. You've gone your whole life without watching sout park. Dont try to act normal
Because they think comedy is "dated" & 90's humor is so much different then today, no South Park is still on people just have become humorless.
53:22 They didn't lose. Try again
I was going to say that too but they did lose with Cartoon Wars and Episode 200 and 201. Sadly people weren’t open to the message about the censorship of Mohammad.
Yeah this is how I thought this channel would react to the movie.
I feel like Greg is the only one that’s not soft lol
In the most asinine way possible, talking over the movie and jokes constantly, not getting most of it and thinking this movie isn't relevant in the era everything is censored by the corporations, esp. the platform they're on? Yeah, about right.
typical LA content creators, often self absorbed in their own world of self righteousness
Brian Dennehy an actor during the 70s, 80s and 90s. He was the Sheriff in First Blood. He was also the dad in Tommy Boy.
He was also in Coccoon (1985), a movie that was pretty big at the time but seems to have been forgotten--I'm surprised it doesn't show up on reaction channels since, generally speaking, most reaction channels include a lot of hit movies from the 80s.
He was also in the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 with Ethan Hawke and Lawrence Fishburne.
@@ericjette2435 Cocoon is not available on any streaming services. There is a problem with music copywrite issues, although the inevitable conspiracy theories suggest there is more to it. Same reason you don't see any reactions to the movie Heavy Metal.

Guys, this was released in the THEATER. I know, I was there lol.
in south park canon, everyone goes to hell. except, mormons of course.
They were mocking an episode of NYPD Blue where they said "shit" for the first time on network tv.

Yup, looks like slapstick is their limit, give them satire and they simply just don’t understand.
If you’ve ever seen any reactions from either of them before this shouldn’t be that shocking lol

I never seen bigger wafflers in my life. This is right up there with the 2 ladies that watched LOTR and didn't pay attention at all. Then watch the Hobbit movies and are clueless.
The "we's a people gonna die" was a STAR WARS Prequels Reference, not a racism.
Brian Boytano was a dated reference at that point - an Olympic ice skater. Brian Dennehy was an actor - known for playing strong, often arrogant characters. He was the police chief in First Blood (the first Rambo movie) and a ton of other things throughout the years
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and then when I got a bit older going online and looking up who Brian Boytano was, it had been on my mind for years 😂 I’m in Scotland and I don’t think anyone I knew had a clue who he was
Imagine seeing this movie as a teenager. I literally died laughing. But oof Aaron was struggling thru this
@phil
You literally died? Stop chatting bollocks.
Stone and Parker had one shot with their movie, and they chose to make the plot about parents getting pissy about letting their kids see an age-inappropriate movie. The meta-ness couldn't be beat.
Also, Bombing the Baldwins was a play on the bombing of the Balkans (a mountain range where we did some bombing at the time).
