I love the layers of Danny's character. He's not the terrible cop he seems to be at first. He's just had horrible role models his entire career. Once Angel shows up and takes him under his wing, he proves that he's actually pretty capable as a cop.

This film is incredible. Everything from the setup comes back, with the exception of a single thing - Nicholas's skills at advanced cycling.
This movie really does have a stacked cast. Even for some very brief cameos in which the actors aren't even recognizable. Notably, the "Father Christmas" who stabs Nicholas in the opening montage is played by Peter Jackson and Nicholas' ex-girlfriend is played by Cate Blanchett, fully concealed by hooded disposable coveralls and a face mask.
I'll toss in Mr. Weaver, played by Edward Woodward, the lead in the original Wicker Man and the original Equalizer. He's probably the least recognizable.
I try to watch every Hot Fuzz reaction video I can because it’s one of my all time favourites and I have to say I’m very impressed with Hayley’s big brain and correctly figuring out that the NWA was behind the murders, and for knowing why they did it, far early than the dozens of other reactors I’ve seen react to this film. This is a serious contender for my all-time favorite comedy. It has such great writing, so many little details, and cleverly plays with action movie cliches. "He's NOT Judge Judy and executioner!" is forever burned into my memory. Also, one of most interesting aspects is that the movie was filmed in Wells, which is Edgar Wright's home town. That whole chase sequence with the shoplifter was filmed in the area that Wright walked to and from school as a kid.
@@biggains1 Yup. Though at the range they were at, probably still wouldn't be needed. They got another thing spot on. More modern handguns and rifles are pretty unlikely to go off when dropped even with one in the chamber; but a modern shotgun still can, like Danny's did when he dropped it.

We do lots of things well in Britain but the action-buddy-cop genre is one that we tend to leave to Hollywood, which is why Hot Fuzz works so brilliantly! It's the best of The Cornetto Trilogy. Shaun Of The Dead and the World's End are great too but this is something else entirely. Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow Hayle is this first reactor I've seen who figured out it was the neighborhood watch group! I've seen some suggest it could be 2 people but she was spot on.

Possibly the most tightly packed and clever cop movie comedy ever made. Repeated lines meaning different things, Nick Frost predicting the whole conclusion.
Small detail, but he catches Skinners punch with his left hand, and manages to overpower him, proving after a movie's worth of hand exercise, his hand is no longer a bit stiff

While 'Shaun of the Dead' is my favorite of the 'Cornetto Trilogy' (and my all-time favorite zombie film, or a ZomRomCom, as they call it), this is definitely the best. And if you haven't seen 'Baby Driver' directed by Edgar Wright, it's just so good and you would love it, but it's very music heavy so there is some work getting around that for YT. So many great actors as the NWA in 'Hot Fuzz' that appeared in other great films, such as "The Wicker Man", "The Omen", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", etc. And it's funny to me, as a non-Harry Potter person, that you know a lot of the actors from those films, but not from other great films they've done. Great reactions though, but now do 'Shaun of the Dead' fast while it's still spooky season!
Every one recognises the other actors that are in Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and James Bond etc, but nobody knows about Edward Woodward that plays the head of the NWA. He was made famous in the ‘Wicker Man’ a film about how a policeman is sent to a remote island to investigate people going missing. The population practice paganism and are all in a cult, the ending had a giant wicker man that is set on fire with a sacrificial person inside - if you’ve been to Alton Towers in the UK and ridden the rollercoaster of the same name, then the visual introduction is based on that film. Not wishing to give the ending away, (but I will), his last sentence in that film is also ‘Oh God no!’ Anyway, he made his name in that film and went on to be the lead roll in a 1970 tv show that been made in a recent 3 part film. Yes he is the original Equalizer!
Him with all the CCTV screens was the original TV Equalizer from the 80's, Edward Woodward who was in The Wicker Man as a similar 'cop in an odd environment'. Simon Pegg loved the fact that he got to fight James Bond, "...and I won!"
in addition the "Oh God, no..." has to be a callback to the last line of Edward Woodwards in Wicker Man. But my favourite touch (of many) is that the two desk sargeants are both played by comedian Bill Bailey with different wigs. Also both are reading books by Iain Banks, but of different genres. The author called himself Iain M. Banks when writing Sci-Fi. You can just spot that if you pause carefully when the book covers are visible.
Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and Jessica Hynes had a 2 season BBC show called SPACED. One kf the episodes is the inspiration for Shaun of the Dead! It is soooo nerdy, that the dvd subtitle options include one that just tells you what movie or show is being referenced in any given scene. 😂🙏👏👏👏👏It is amazing.
Simon Peg and Nick Frost are close friends and used to be room mates. They started out togather with a fun little british TV Serious called Spaced, also directed by Edgar Wright (2 seasons with 7 30 minutes episodes), that is real fun, too. It had quite a lot of similarities to Hot Fuzz, especially in its meta qualities. Spaced went so far, to actually having a Homagometer as a subtitle option, that tells you the refferences... and there where A LOT. There was an american remake of that, that sucked, by all accounts. I would love if you could check that out.
32:32 The bad guys knew not to mess with the crown, because swans are legally royal property in the UK 😂 There used to be a superstition that killing a swan was legally considered an act of treason, but in reality you get a massive fine to pay
Any of Simon & Nicks films always have top quality actors who are happy to join in with their wacky sense of humour. I don't think you either of you knew the actor playing the camera watcher who died from the mine at the end? That was Edward Woodward - the original Equalizer back in the day, as well as the role in the original Wicker Man . . . Films jointly written with Simon & Nick? I like HF first, then Paul (US based alien film), then Shaun, and World's End . . . other's written or co-written with Simon - Run Fatboy Run, & Star Trek 2 with Chris Pine - Simon plays Scotty in 1-2 as the Chief Engineer . . .
Ding ding ding! There was supposed to be a love interest but they cut her out and gave her lines to Danny, which is why their friendship feels romantic even if it doesn't. Nick's ex (cameo by Cate Blanchett) alludes to the fact that Nick doesn't take anything except policing seriously. which is why him becoming friends with Danny is significant as a love interest in your usual cop movie.
I was impressed how you both picked up that the village was involved and Skinner leading a few. My thoughts where he is a red Hearing to sway you away from the real killer s.

Shaun of the Dead is one of the best zombie movies, again great writing and editing ... it knows what it's doing both as comedy and drama/horror It also has its comically gory moments - as you would expect in any good zombie movie
Definitely recommend watching a reference video to appreciate this film even more. So many details 😊 only the last acrobatic jump in the fence jumping scene is a double 😊 edgar wright is king at the texas switch
many people miss the names of the characters in the movie and how they reference what they do. It is fun watching reactors when I know what is about to happen.
Just to clarify it wasnt his choice to press charges, thats up to the police who pass the file on to the crown prosecution service if charges are pressed,
A lot of what you say about this film also applies to Shaun of the Dead - but instead of 'buddy cop' movies it plays on the tropes of zombie horror films (old style zombie films, with slow moving zombies) - again with a good story, engaging character arcs and well written comedy. I love both SOTD & Hot Fuzz - they're both essential films for me. SOTD isn't quite as 'snappily' paced as Hot Fuzz - it was Edgar Wright's first film - but it's probably my favourite of the two. I never really liked The World's End very much - it was technically good, but I thought it lacked some of the heart and soul of its two predecessors - but it has its admirers and maybe I need to watch it again and give it another go. Anyway, loved the reaction and hearing your thoughts. Very impressive that Hayley totally called what was going on so early in the film!
Go back and watch the World's End again. I didn't like it much at first, but I've seen it several times now and it really does age well. It's got a whole lot more heart and soul in my opinion than either SOTD or HF. HF is still my favorite, and it'd consider it one of the most compositionally perfect films ever made. But I slept on World's End at first too and it's SO much better than i initially gave it credit for. The movie changes entirely once you have seen it and know the truth of Gary.
@@CxOrillion I think I will give it another go. I don't believe for a moment I'll ever rate it as highly as SOTD or HF, but I do suspect it's a better film than I thought it was when I first saw it. When I first saw Hot Fuzz, I liked it, but didn't love it - it's grown on me more and more over time, and now I agree with you that it's a damn near perfect film - so maybe The World's End might grow on me in a similar way. I will watch it again.
@@Whitestripe71 It's all down to personal taste, and they are very disparate films so there's no wrong answer. My theory on people not quite finding the love for "The World's End" is that, just like "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz", it improves on rewatching - but unlike those two, you're not really watching to pick up on a thousand layers of jokes. It's darker, and while still very funny, there's a seriousness to the underlying story that a lot of people just aren't into. I love them all for different reasons, but "The World's End" holds a special spot in my heart because of Gary King - I get it.
Watch Shaun of the Dead. No question. Especially since you loved the dynamic between Simon and Nick in this one. Also rewatch At World's End after that, because I think you'll enjoy it a whole lot more once you are more used to the type of comedy that Edgar and Simon write. These movies are not just "parodies" in the normal sense of the word - they also have gravitas and deeply felt emotional drama. You have to pay very close attention to every single detail, because Everything in the first half of each of these movies has a wonderful comedic or sometimes dramatic payoff in the second half. And I mean Everything!
Great reaction or wtv, sucks that Gordon spoiled Point Break for her. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY! 'Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match' is now out! Jaby and Achara, you guys gotta react to it! It's so good and HILARIOUS! I mean Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, you cannot go wrong!
This movie holds the world records for both the shortest car chase and the longest non-fatal shootout
I love the layers of Danny's character. He's not the terrible cop he seems to be at first. He's just had horrible role models his entire career. Once Angel shows up and takes him under his wing, he proves that he's actually pretty capable as a cop.

the writing in edgar wright's movies is always great but the real star of his movies is the editing!
Definitely recommend watching a reference video to appreciate this film even more. So many details 😊 only the last acrobatic jump in the fence jumping scene is a double 😊 edgar wright is king at the texas switch
Nicholas Angel (Angle?) is such a badass he bested both James Bond AND The Hound in single combat
An Angel was sent to save a village, mission accomplished.
many people miss the names of the characters in the movie and how they reference what they do. It is fun watching reactors when I know what is about to happen.
Just to clarify it wasnt his choice to press charges, thats up to the police who pass the file on to the crown prosecution service if charges are pressed,
Its always fascinating to me how american reactors 'almost' but dont ever get the full complexity of british satirical comedy storytelling.
Seen plenty of Hot Fuzz reactions. Think you guys hit the mark on what is going on more than any other ive watched
Next, Shaun of the Dead, though you're watching Edgar Wright's cornetto trilogy in reverse order.
The Cornetto trilogy; Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End...
Thank you for the blurry of censored 😑, but at 1:40, Peter Jackson dressed up as Father Christmas!!! 😂😂😂
Awesome call Hayley! Cornetto (British term) is the ice cream cone. Look for it in the other 2 movies.

Gotta watch Point Break before you watch this!
Michael is the Hound in the GOT!
Andrew and his fuzzy arms is what I thought this video was about 🤣😜😊
Hot Fuzz is my favorite by default because I literally watched it for an entire weekend in a row..
the 'Yarp' guy is Rory McCann, The Hound in GOT :)
Hayley is quite the detective
the guy in the purple tracksuit's name describes how he walks its knows as peacocking clever reference
This is my favourite movie of all time
Glad you watched it
Shaun of the Dead is excellent and was my favorite of the Cornetto Trilogy, but over the years, I think Hot Fuzz has taken over 1st.
One of my favorite movies of all time
I really am enjoying you guys soo much.
Hayley getting that it was the NWA, and why, was great!
