  • At the age of 34, Aleksander Doba paddled his first kayak. From there began a love affair with the sea that continues nearly four decades later. Driven by a fearless curiosity, Aleksander took to exploring the world from the seat of a kayak. In 2017, at the age of 70, he kayaked across the Atlantic for the third time, spending 110 days solo at sea. His entire journey from New Jersey to Brittany, France, took him 5,039 miles across the ocean, battling tropical storms and treacherous waves. For some, his expeditions seem impossible, but with every new adventure, Aleksander discovers a new, beautiful way to see the world.

      hes been pushing it too hard, but if he likes it, then it's surely been okay at all, but extremism is just too extreme, i'd assume such a healthy sportsman like him with such positive vibes should live well over 100, too bad we've lost him in his 70's

    Once i was sitting next to him on the train. He was telling stories, and all off them were emazing. I remembered one in particular. He told me that his biggest dream was to see a live shark, and once small one swam next to his kayak, and he dared to touch it. He is such an extraordinary man.

    Dying at 70 doing what you love most sounds like a good life and it's the most legendary way to go I've ever heard of. (A true adventurer). Fun fact: 5,400 km was just his first 99-day transatlantic expedition from Dakar, Senegal to Acarau, Brazil. The second was an expedition of 12,437 kilometers from Lisbon to Florida in 167 days. His third and last was an 8,109 km expedition from New Jersey to Le Conquet, France, in 110 days in 2017. The psychological toll must be very strong. I kayaked half a kilometer to an atoll in the crystal-clear waters of Palma Island, in the San Bernardo archipelago. It was terrifying once you enter the open sea, you could only see a blue void below you. I continued forward, knowing that people on the beach could see me and the resort's lifeguards knew where I was going. There is no way any sane person would go out into the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean in a kayak, I have seen videos of ocean waves that make huge boats look like a canoe. This guy was very tough and I hope I have the balls to be like him if I live to be 70 years old.

    Agree with others, that's not a kayak. Paddles don't make it so. There is a separate category for row boats. Ed Gillet kayaked from Monterey CA to Hawaii, a 2,200 mile trip in 1987. Another amazing story is Oskar Speck who Kayaked from Germany to Australia from 1932-1939.

    • @mrjanzabelski
      @mrjanzabelski 6 років тому +16

      Actually, no one was following him. I've found the article in NY Times "Why He Kayaked Across the Atlantic at 70 (for the Third Time)". There is a lot of cool stuff there. The old man is really short on his budget and would never be able to afford any sort of support (I doubt he would like to have it). The case with the big boat was rather a fortunate coincidence. As they were helping him once when he had some technical issues.

    • @pugmaster0008
      @pugmaster0008 6 років тому +1

      A boat follows him just to be sure nothing wrong happens. Point is, he rowed all the way across an ocean multiple times, having to carry your own resources isn’t really part of the deal.

    • @armwrestlingfan6804
      @armwrestlingfan6804 6 років тому +3

      Pugmaster000 He needs to have well over 50 gallons of drinking water for one trip. (well over 200 liters. Perhaps over 300 liters for such activity) And with his friends also needing water is amazing u can fit all that water on a small boat. And then you need a 100 days worth of food.
      Eating on that kayak is an adventure in its own right. And pooping and pissing everyday out that kayak, how the hell? That's a funny image.
      I wonder how he dealed with all the rain. Must have had some contraption not to fill his kayak and drown?
      It's more interesting seeing the full adventure.
      Perhaps he has a documentary..
