This video was the lynchpin that sold me the Strive:On. It has everything I wanted in a new bike and the video was so well detailed that I had to buy it straight away. I've only taken it out once so far but I was immediately comfortable and confident despite needing to finish setting up my suspension! I am already tackling sections I hesitated on before and I had great fun climbing uphill, tackling roots I never would have thought of tackling before. I cant wait to get out on it again. Thank you Rob for your honest and detailed opinion.
Fantastic content! Just love the mix of technical and in the field, on the bike comentary. The style of the video, the action is superb and you and your colleague on the camera make a wonderful team. Now, can't wait to see this bik pop up on Canyon in the US. 😀
No one does it better! Your videos set the standard.
Can tell you love as it shows in your riding, riding so well! Great videography and a full on explanation as always.
Oh I do love a Canyon. Bike looks awesome. Love your videos Rob. So much information and beautifully filmed. Love watching them.
Probably your best video and bike review to date and also the best I’ve seen you ride.
Hmm looked at canyon ebikes but in the end I invested in a pole voima, nothing toches it. Great video as always , even if it's paid content from canyon . Such is the modern world , look forward to the next production you put out , as always 🤘🤘🤘
Great video once again, good to see some security being included on the bikes excellent selling point.
The GPS module can be removed in 3 minutes...
I got to tell this, your movies has incredible quality. It looks really really good. It is pleasure to watch this.
So much want, great review Rob as always.
This incredible 🔥 Canyon and Bosch got it spot on
Nice video Rob . I like the look of the bike . Glad your enjoying the enduro trails at Triscombe once again .
Cheers! Love Triscombe trails
Canyon: Please release the Strive:ON for order in the United States. I'm stuck between buying this bike and another because I don't want to miss riding this summer. Excellent job on moving to Bosch; that is why I didn't order a Canyon in the past. I would also like to see the Bosch on the Torque:ON.
It will apparently be available in the US from september.
Wow, awesome camera work!!! Great to watch that!
Great review, to many good choices now. Was looking at the new Wild but I may have to reconsider.
Unfortunately this bike has issues alot of people are reporting that it turns off on trails. The problem is with the closing latch, leading to unwanted battery movements, and play in the latch.
unlikely. There is no latch, it is held by a a skid plate bolted with an Allen bolt…. So these rumors sound fishy….
Hi Rob, cracking review as always. I'd be interested on you thoughts on the Strive ON vs the new 2023 Orbea Wild? I see a similar question has been asked on here already, but hasn't been answered. I think its a pretty fair comparison as they are both top bikes. Cheers
This is quickly becoming my favourite channel on UA-cam 🔥
Great review Rob, video and stills top notch
your video quality is always stunning! just wow. Good job
Hi. may i ask which camera you use to make the video?
Hi. Sony A7SIII 👍
I saw the video and bought a bike! So happy with it! Great review!
I love my Megawatt, but honestly, so many brands have come out with absolute bangers since I got mine last year. I kinda wish I waited a year for this instead, especially with that Bosch system with it's built in GPS tracker and immobiliser.
By the way I really love your riding skill, because eventhough it’s way better than my skill, you don’t make suicide drop and descend at Mach 2 like pro top riders. You are just riding at Mach 1.8 !!!!
What I want to say is that your tests are real for me as I would like to get to your skill riding. When I see a top pro rider pedaling a bike , I know that he will do miracle even with a 32kgs hard untuned suspension bike ! I won’t !!!
I bought it today thx for the help choosing this bike
Awesome video mate!
Great piece and brilliant tech. Good to see you last week
Great Job Rob.
Its good to see, that canyon left some Space for the new Bosch Motor 😅
And finaly they use Bosch on an EMTB. It‘s the best Motor.
Got the Strive On Underdog coming tomorrow..I'll not be able to sleep tonight 😅
How is the underdog holding up ?
@@tonyvaccarelli7950 I sold it,didn't like it..prefer the dirtbike
At that price damn well done Canyon
Grreat content Rob
Have a good week!
Awesome. Would you prefer this or the new wild? Seems like they were able to build the bottom tube strong without a full opening but still easy to remove battery
Nice review. I'm looking forward to Bosch's new lightweight motor.
perfect color grade! Wow
Rob, the quality of your content is another level!
Thank you!
That lovely UK weather ! Might need a holiday house down here in Australia mate ! Thanks for the review great work 👍
I'm sure its been the wettest spring ever!
Sounds like torture to me
Great review Rob
My next emtb
Well, I think I watched this video about ten times and finally ordered one. Well done Rob!
Great stuff Rob! You ride like a pro 😅, Couldn’t fault my old 2018 Canyon Spectral On apart from the 500wh battery 😅 👍🏻
got the Canyon Torque ON this year and opted for the 900Wh battery, haven’t been able to kill the battery on 30+ mile rides, love it.
I just ordered the Underdog last week ($1000 off)! It delivers in 2 days and I can't wait to get this bike on the trails! I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video over the past 6 months but I'm sure it's not a healthy number. I'm 6'4 and also went with a large since the reach is identical to my Polygon T7. I appreciate your detailed review (and the followup when you bought it). 🤘
Mine just has arrived yesterday. And I am really looking forward to test in in the dirt. BTW your review helped me to go for this beast (and of course 20% discount). Thanks Rob!
How are you loving it, congratulations!?
So much! Universal shredder and load of fun. Also it works well in bike parks.
I’m usually cinical, when it comes to E-bike debuts…but this really looks like it’s put together very well
I am completely in love!!!
The video quality ist superb!
Mullet is awesome in the steeps and for railing turns, have the Canyon Torque ON ridden some of the most iconic Colorado singletrack rides this summer and sending it at bike park.
Super nice i almost bought a caynon but didn't want the ep8, now that this comes with the bosh is bitter sweet.😩. Is the full 29er kenevo still a hair above tho? I just got one and converted mine ❤
Great content Rob. Great filming and editing. I only recognised the log drop test location. Where did you do the other stuff, doesn't look like your usual locations??
Cheers! Triscome and Minehead were the other locations.
Looks good!👍
Think I’ve just found my next bike… Thank Rob
Great looking ebike I think the bosch is best tech climbing by far its not even close.
Hi Rob, please, how tall are you? And second question, would you do a comparison Canyon Spectral:ON vs Strive:ON? Especially when updated Spectral:ON with Shimano EP801 is released? Thanks for great videos!
Great to see there using the Bosch unit, and normal bars not those all in one crap deals, and just like that they cant ship the Strive:ON CFR LTD to Australia.
I just purchased the Spectral On, it has the Shimano motor and I cant imagine needing more punch! At $4300 and a nice spec I am very happy.
Hey Rob good job, how do you compare , even motor wise with giant reign, could be the overun a deciding factor?
I've had a Canyon CF MTB for a few years and it's been great. Maybe one of these next.
I love your testing videos. Can you also test Canyon Torque:on?
This bike may be what I have been waiting for!
Its pretty sweet...
Zero dissapointment, ride wise. epic feel.
Looks great and the spec for the price is awesome. It's a shame the CFR is Shimano but the CFR LTD is SRAM. The CFR is over £2200 cheaper and I'd be happy to upgrade it to GX AXS (the previous version), but upgrading from Shimano to SRAM on the back end is an expensive pain.
Wear out the shimano and change..
I've gone for the underdog model the suspension is dialed and spot on and when I wear out the deore kit I'll go sraam axs but with the NX cassette that runs off the shimano free hub and lasts way longer over the GX kit.
thank for this good video Rob, I have a question for you, do you think it is possible to put a 29 rear wheel on it, because I don’t like at all 27,5 rear wheel? thank for answer
Finally a Bosch powered bike with decent looking controls👍🏼
How's the app compared to let's say Specialized or Shimano?
I’m have a 2020 yt decoy and am looking at adding the pole voima or canyon strive on ltd to my collection. If you had to choose one. Which one would it be?
Hi Rob it is a great video as always. I was wondering how high is the rise of the handlebar that you put on the strive on?
Great review Rob. How does it compare to the Marin Alpine Trail E2?
I have the Marin and looking at getting a new bike soon.
Thanks
does the Bosch system allow for heart tracking (with external monitor) to adjust on the fly the support to maintain a certain work level?
Fantastic, Content! and I am in love with the idea of buying the strive on, however, have you experienced the same battery latch problems as other users do, who ride the bike on the trails? Certainly you have heard about the disconnection problems and not tight enough hold of the battery within the frame. I know the latches had been reinforced, but there is still a considerable movement of the battery within the frame which causes disconnection problems. Do you have any opinion on that?
This looks like a really good runner up for new bike but I can’t see it yet available at the US, only the Torque is available. Wishing they make it available soon, I really prefer to have the Bosh motor over the EP8. Great video
I just spoke to Canyon, and it will eventually become available in the US, but they couldn't say when. Just more time to save :D
Interested to hear your thoughts on the Canyon vs Orbea Wild vs Yeti 160e
Just bought at Canyon Germany! Thanks a lot for this Video! 😅
You won’t be disappointed! Amazing bike.
I Thing i will go with mt7 and hcw levers and maybe tuning the shims of the x2 Loving your content and the way of evolving...
Interesting video
👀Is this my perfect first ebike? Unfortunate the top level Torque scheme isn't available on the other tiers or Strive because I LOVE it. 1. What do you think about the race motor for casual use? Do you think for someone who can't pedal a lot due to a spine injury could benefit from the race motor? 2. Why do you think they gave the Strive a Bosche but the Torque a Shimano? I'm really keen on either of these bikes. Do you think the Bosche or the Shimano characteristics would benefit someone more like me who can't handle pedaling a long time or very hard, if you think the differences are even enough for me to consider?
The GPS is great but if only they would have it were its not accesable that would be ideal its far to easy to remove. Great content thx for the vid :)
Seems an incredibly genuine review! I am so tempted but struggling to commit to the pricing. Is it worth it???
hi Rob, can you tell me if there will be any issues fitting an aftermarket stem to the Strive on? The stem spacers are a different shape to the usual round ones and I am wanting to upgrade the bars and stem when mine arrives
nice, wonder if they make full turn to the bosch systems and leave shimano ep motors..
Sorry for the late, I’m after a new e bike so this or the Pole what would you choose.
This is the review i need to see. Sending my torque on roczen back as it cant climb the trails i ride. Will order the Strive on ltd instead!
Ordered..!! 👍🏻
Arrived in under 7 days and is epic!! Exactly as you said, Rob!! 👍🏻
Great video/review, thank you.
If you have to decide between the Strive:On CFR and an Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert, would you choose the Canyon? 🧐
Yes Canyon
Subbed. Sorry if it’s been asked I’m on 1 arm just had collarbone surgery. I’m 6’2” saw some vids for medium. But I was thinking to also get a riser bar, what height are you and What raiser bar height/brand did you use? Thanks!
If you want a bike for flow jump trails will this bike be better than a Transition Repeater?
It looks like the Crestline a little bit, I wonder what u think about the New Torque: On Shimano EP801
"2024"
I always love when I hear this as companies say that allready in Januar 2023 :)
I say its the damn 2023 Version because of the obvious thing that it is 2023 right now :)
Watched the bike on Canyons side earlier and YES !!! I would love to check that bike out :)
Interestingly the new carbon version is heavier then the evar. I checked the old Torque ON AL vs the new CF version as there is no AL anymore (just the 2021 edition) and the new bikes weight more then 1kg more in CF mode. WOW :O
The new Bosh system was "OOH? COOL?" and I wondered that the new Torques continue to use Shimano :)
Now i dont know if I want the Stive or the Torque.
Pricewise it is the old Torque ON AL. I am also not very much convinced with CF bikes. To much people I know got cracks in Bikeparks or just on trails :/ + does it matter on an E bike? :)
Awesome review btw. Can you tell about the rattle on the motor? Is there some?
Cool bike ♥
How does it compare to the Turbo Levo Gen3? I know you‘ve ridden both. I‘ve only ridden the Turbo Levo and sometimes it feels a bit too planted and heavy. Is the Strive On poppier and does it feel lighter?
I love my Heckler!
Between this and the new Wild which one do you prefer?
Would suggest the wild but you can't remove the battery so it's out
Looks like a great bike. I've always gotten the impression (purely theoretically, as someone that doesn't have the budget to try either of them) that Shimano's focus on a natural feel and usability, compared to Bosch's focus on outright performance, makes the EP8 a great choice for the average rider, but the CX would clearly be the better choice for racing.
I'm feeling fairly vindicated now, as Canyon seems to completely agree with me, using the EP8 on the Spectral/Torque:ON, while their dedicated race bike uses the CX.
It's disappointing to see Headset cable routing, though (also applies to the new Torque:ON).
I have had bikes with both motors, YES EP8 is a slight more “natural” feeling than the Bosch but just slightly. The Bosch has a nicer feeling overall.
One reason why they gone with EP8 on the Torque I guess is weight savings.
Head set cable routing is the worst
Boy Rob.....you really like the BIG bikes! Did you ever buy that Polini Alloy biker? What does the Strive weigh?
Enjoy. I can only dream about it.
Hi - this is a great summary. I consider the purchase of this bike - can you tell how noisy is the motor and what hight are you. I’m 183cm high and do not know if M or L size will be better.
6:14 So that's what you rip out when you pinch one 😂
shhhhhh!!! 🤣
Nice review and one of the reasons I ordered this bike :) It has just arrived, and I haven't even ridden it yet. But I have a couple of concerns from my first closer look at it. The biggest one is that the motor compartment is not fully sealed. It is covered by the skid plate from below, but there are huge holes from both sides that will most likely allow dirt and water to enter the motor compartment. There are also some cables and connectors inside the compartment that seem to be exposed to that dirt. Additionally, this may make cleaning the bike more complicated. What is your experience with this? Will the motor, the electronics, and the battery survive this? Thanks!
Hi. I’ve got the Bosch system and ground it through mud and water for 2 years and 600 miles. Every now and again I take the sump off and clean the motor down. Grease the connections. Takes 10mins and had no issues. It’s a good unit. 👍
Great video!
Has there been any recent software upgrades to the Bosch motor that makes it so smooth and sensitive? I feel something has improved on the newer bikes I've ridden, but I don't recall there's been any recent update. Or am I completely wrong here?
there's been several updates. I'm not sure they've specifically said they've made it smoother in any of the updates, but its possible that they have made some incremental rolling updates over time.
@@RobRidesEMTB Thanks! It really feels like a different motor compared to when it was launched. It has aged well.
This sounds very similar to the giant reign E+0.
Which is better would you say Rob?❤🎉❤
i love one, but cant afford that unfortunetly. Whats opinions on the Grand Canyon:ON 7?
Very nice review!
I am studing to sell this bike but i have a quastio: is the 500
Tube from bosch fiting in this frame?
Thank you for anwnser
One very important point to consider with the anti theft system is
Does the e-sim in the bosch module still transmit a signal with battery removed?
Can the bosch module its self be detached?
Thanks
Also what if you lose your phone whilst out riding?
I'm about to buy an emtb and thought about Marin Alpine E2...until this came up! Now, should I spend 1k (25% more than E2l) more for a lower spec in terms of Suspension/Brakes?
The plus on the Stive are for sure the Battery [750W] and the punch the motor gives compared to EP8.
Geometries are on pair.
To have similar spec has the E2, I should have to spend over 2k (around 50% more than the E2).
I love both bikes aesthetical speaking... but it's a hard choise - any help much appreciated!
I don't think this has lower component specs than the Alpine E2, I actually think it has better components. The biggest difference are if you want a coil shock in the rear or not, and that's just a matter of taste.
Hey Rob, I'm just about to take the plunge to purchase my first ebike. So much choice but you were clearly impressed with this one. This bike is up there, the spec, geometry, motor/batt etc. My main question, is this bike playful, fun/poppy or is it really just meant for racing/speed and charging DH? Keep up the good work!👍
Very playful and plenty of pop. Definitely more than my Trek Rail and Pole Voima.
@@RobRidesEMTB Going from Canyon's size calculator I'm in between sizes. I think you are slightly taller than me, I'm 185cm. What do you reckon, size down for agility and go for a Medium (too small?) or size up and go for the Large? Cheers
@@bjornson79 Thanks for the info, I've got size M on order, hope it's going to suit! Wouldn't normally have expected I'd go any smaller than a Large but it seems to big from the numbers for my riding style. Have you got yours yet??
@@RobRidesEMTB hi Rob, can you tell me if there will be any issues fitting an aftermarket stem to the Strive on? The stem spacers are a different shape to the usual round ones and I am wanting to upgrade the bars and st
@@dancooper6396Hi, how does the medium size fit you? Best Regards
Interesting that Canyon have gone without their shapeshifter that was the heart and signature of the strive for many years. while an EMTB may not need the climbing efficiency boost, for me the shapeshifter on my strive is used most often to make the bike more playful or get a taste of some underbiking rather than just a climb switch.
I have to take a decision: strive:on underdog or giant E+1?
Hi Rob. I'm really hoping for a comment from you on this important and expensive decision! I also welcome all other feedback. I am trying to decide between the Canyon Strive:ON and the Pole Voima ID. I've watched your review of both bikes several times, as well as every other review I can find. Your content is amazing!
Which bike do you feel is better, did you end up buying the Pole Voima, and do you have any updates????
I currently have a Pivot Switchblade. I was considering getting the new Polygon Collosus n8e, and either keeping both, or selling my Pivot. If I got one of these bikes I would definitely have to sell the Pivot. I ride cross country style trails, as well as some enduro style trails. I also spend a significant amount of time at the BIKE PARK in the summer. As time is limited, my fitness is not currently great. I would really prefer a Bosch, but the new EP801 Shimano seems decent. In Pennsylvania where I live there are a lot of rocks, so the high BB of the Pole seems like a great idea, although I am not great at jumping and my skills are intermediate at best. Therefore, I'm a little concerned about trying to get an ebike in the air, but I don't really have any experience with that. I've been all 29, but I am starting to see advantages of a mullet, especially in an ebike, although it does provide relatively less grip.
Do you think one of these bikes is a good choice for the park, or should I stick with a more budget friendly lower travel bike for trails, and a regular (acoustic) long-travel MTB for the bike park??
I am between these 2 bikes also
What happens with the Bosch Smart System if you are out riding and your phone breaks or run out of battery? Both things have happened to me more than once..
One question is it better than turbo levo gen 3?
