i am jealous that i didn’t think of that first
Absolutely agreed! 😊🌎❤️🕺🏻🐶🚀🛸📡🛰️
Thanks John . You and Issac are like Road Warriors tag teaming the internet with fantastic content to exercise my brain!
That's a sweet reference. LOD always my favorite tag team. John is insane with his info. I honestly know I have learned more book smarts knowledge from this channel than my whole time of classes in high school and middle school. I'll never get the lack of education or really interest for space by the mass majority.
Dont forget about ParallaxNick or Anton Petrov...lol
@thunderballs6216 very well said my friend! Have a wonderful evening and be safe out there! 😊🌎❤️🕺🏻🐶
@@PoliticsInCars amazing choices as well! I wouldn't wanna choose! 😊🌎❤️
John and Anton are my favorite!
This helped me take the best short nap of all time, it was so good I had to wake up and share the experience..
I thought I was the only one who does this. LoL. Zero disrespect. This is a great show. It's just something about his voice. Strait to sleep. I'll end up watching 2 to 3 times to get the whole show.
I swear those Mars fibres better be called "Mars Bars", or else it's a lost opportunity.
I vote mibres. Mars Bars sounds like Muzz Buzz.
@@asandax6 oooh, i like that
when we dig up dirt here we say digging up the earth. we will need to say digging up the mars.
Hey John, I know other channels have covered it, and if you already have and I've missed it you'll have to excuse me, but have you thought about doing a video highlighting the false science videos and the AI produced science video phenomenon? I ask not only because you are a UA-cam science OG but also because I feel these parasitic channels genuinely take viewership away from legit channels, such as yours, that put in the hard yards of actually reviewing and communicating new scientific research for a wide audience.
ive noticed its really bad on some peoples accounts. i use the browser version of youtube so your better able to purge videos that dont fit your tastes.
I'll probably cover it in a larger scope video about AI spoofing that I'm planning. What I can say is that there apparently are things changing behind the scenes at UA-cam to combat this. They don't want their platform full of this stuff any more than we do. So at least something is being done, at least to my understanding. How well it will work remains to be seen, but I certainly can't see how all these fake channels would be good for advertising revenue for UA-cam, so I would not be surprised if we see them put some kind of filter in place to keep it all real. I think I may actually start appearing on camera somewhere in the videos just to show that I'm still kickin' and doing what I always did.
I read your reply in my mind with your voice. Hopefully that did not sound creepy. To the point though the AI generated content is a real problem and algorithms by accident or not are pushing it. It’s really not so offensive for other subjects but science based content is being overwhelmed as far as i can see.
Great observation and concern!
@@JohnMichaelGodier I think that actually might be a very good idea, not only for people like myself and others who have been around forever, but also for the younger audience to better parse the real science creators from the AI trash. I often wonder if we aren't asking too much of kids who have a genuine interest in science, to try and figure out what is real on sites like this one and what isn't. Showing up in the video could very much bridge that gap and help separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were, until UA-cam gets its act in gear.
J.M.G, Isaac Arthur and Anton Petrov. Who else could we possibly want or need.
The live reentry footage blew my freaking mind. O was freaking out a bit and the people watching didn't quite understand how absolutely INSANE that is.
Love re-entry was beyond next level astonishing. I was in awe the entire time.
Looking forward to seeing that when they have enough attitude control to stay belly down
Starships tumble attempt was spectacular. 😮
@@cxv8414 Starship's atmospheric re-entry during IFT-3 was the first time that there was no communications blackout during this phase of a space mission. Because of this the live video feed showed heated plasma enveloping Starship and this is something that has never been seen live before. The generic consumer Starlink antennas on Starship point upwards towards the Starlink satellites in Low Earth Orbit overhead, rather than downward towards the ground through the plasma which blocks the signal. This test showed that it's possible to maintain constant communications with a re-entering spacecraft using standard consumer electronics, and this could potentially help increase the safety and success of space missions.
Could it be possible fire high powered lasers at a rocket from earth in some fashion to use as a fuel source? Like a electric rocket without need for batteries ?
While in debate in High School, I came across some scientific magazines from the 1970's. It was about building solar panels in space and using microwave beams to get the energy back to 🌎.
Wouldn't they heat up moisture in the atmosphere and be unusable with heavy cloud cover?
@@gags730 I don't remember the particulars. It was just something I could use as a plan to reduce CO2 emissions and was such an extreme idea, I wasn't likely to get any presentable evidence to refute the concept.
My thoughts were worse, in a way it would be a space weapon. We are talking about collecting enough energy to be used like a power planet. The microwave beam would be significant. I would like to see a modern break down of the concept by someone much smarter than me.
A FEW RECENT DISCOVERIES: I recently discovered that if you pet your cat friend too many times he might swat you in the face. Also, microwaving an egg will make it explodde and then you have to clean up the mess (and a lot of complaints if you don't do it pronto).
Late to the game bud I discovered these things yearssss ago
You could me in a Easter Egg shell ?
Or just leave it for the cat.
I was lucky enough to witness the lift off of Osiris Rex in person, I have been following every step since then. Findings are incredible so far
Oh, so you were there! I hope you filmed it for us..
But seriously, was it broadcast on YT and do you have a link plz?
i read that at first as “in prison” and i was like damn
@@dannydetonator I do have it on my profile but it was private. Made it public! It's a short video but it has the lift off and the absolute wall of sound that came from it lol
hahaha@@dscvered
Right in time for sleep. Thanks!
Remember that embarrassing thing you did that one time? Also you are now aware that you're breathing manually. Try and sleep now!
I really like these monthly info dumps. Thank you
As a science and futurism enthusiast with slight insomnia I just want to thank you good sir!
Congrats on 400k subscribers! Appreciate the effort you put into these videos, as a sleep listener I love them
Great video John ! Thanks for the years of quality content!
Ya know, your channel really is something else. I’ve only been a subscriber for a short period (less than 6 months), but when I drifted into watching bodycam videos for a while and then came back to your channel it was like a nostalgia trip. It had somehow cemented into my long term memory and activated feelings of nostalgia, even though I had only first started watching very recently. Your videos already feel like comfort food for the mind. It’s such a strange feeling; this nostalgia for something recent.
Anyway, thanks for the very intriguing content, as always.
John Michael Godier you are epic as hell, keep up the good work hero o7
All power to the Nearside Preservation Society; can't start too soon! Also agree on the Farside radio telescope / SETI array!
Today is my birthday and I’m glad to be falling asleep to this. Amazing 🎉🥳🥳
As always, thanks for the upload John
I get legitimately excited when you release a video. Just ordered Supermind, excited to read it!
Another amazing video, John! Thanks!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Man I love these videos!
In which we liiiiiiiiiiive
Congratulations for the 400 k subscribers. Your work deserves even more!
Yo congrats on nearly 400k John! You are the best.
Excellent John, one of the best of the series. Cheers
Always a nice surprise . Thank you!
Love these, such a great channel thanks sir.
Very cool! Thanks.😊
Im always waiting for these monthly uploads
Completely agree with you about the moon being preserved
Thank you, your videos mean much too me.
just as my dinner finished. Thanks John
Perfect viewing for tonight thanks John you legend
Thank you John
Thanks for the great presentation
Congrats on 400k!
Good one! 😀
Greetings and Salutations from Temple, Texas, USA!
I'm glad you concluded with your thoughts about not disturbing the side of the moon that faces towards us. It was my exact thought right before you went into the outro. The far side however, game on. Great minds.
Well the other part of the Spacex solution was that they were talking about Starship and how that ship is so big there is a big hole in the plasma on the topside of the ship as it is entering the atmosphere. So if you have a couple starlink antennas on the top side the signal does not have to go through or as near to the plasma. That is what I took from their explanation during IFT3 and it seemed to work pretty well.
I like this type of video you make here.
These lists are my favorite.
I approve you opening every video with a Dad Joke. ❤it helps me liiiive…
It would be interesting to be able to see changes on the Moon's surface from Earth in the future. Sure, we would be changing the natural surface that we've been looking at for thousands of years like JMG said, but still, it's fun to think about.
Thanks JMG, I love these kinds of scientific discoveries for the month videos. Of course, I love all your videos.
I bet the Mighty Possum won't just let anyone roam around in a LeBaron, permanently changing the face of the Moon, let alone do some digging. Who knows what they might find there...
LEBRON?!?!
"Au revoir LeGeorge"
Great stuff! Maybe we need some Lunar International Parks!
You got that 400k sub, JMG!!! Way to go!!!
I literally had a conversation two weeks ago with my friend about moon mining and I also brought up how we shouldn’t disturb the face of the moon that we see because being able to look at it is man kinda common heritage. But the dark side fuck it
You know that what we call the dark side of the moon isn't really dark right? It is directly facing the sun much of the time!
Ya the moon is in tidal lock (same side facing us all the time) as is Iapetus (a moon of Saturn). So ya it'd be the far side.
These must be good considering we're only slightly more than halfway through March... Maybe there will be a second list by the end of it. Your lists are my favorite! Thanks again, John! 🙏🏼❤
Whoa that beginning
I wait till the end of each episode just to hear the robot. Damn I need a life.
No pasta sauce this time. Chicken and rice with my leftover muscle juices that didn’t get used. Always perfect timing for experimenting with meal, bro. So sweet. Thanks
Whoa. This is amazing.
Interesting as per usual.
Great pun.
Giant SETI telescope on the far side? Hell yeah! Who wouldn't agree?!
It's just what you need. Soilent green
Great video. As for #7, it won't work if you have a blue roof...
beamed power might be technically possible, but it will never happen for security reasons: how can you trust a nation or corporation with what is essentially an orbital death laser?
Energy from space would be epic! Almost like living in the future. 🍻
I remember reading about the space solar solution in the early 00s in an issue of PopSci, and the big hesitation back then that the "beam" could be extremely destructive either by accident or with malicious intent... then I have to wonder what sending that much energy through our atmosphere may do to weather.
I cannot thank you enough for all the content you produce. I usually watch things a couple times bc I use them to fall asleep at night but I’m also really interested in the content and I have an audio processing issue (like many neurodivergents) and your delivery is paced slowly enough that I can follow along without getting frustrated :) So many channels use AI voices, or are so fast paced it becomes hard to follow along unless I’m laser focused on listening. I also really appreciate that you’re willing to explore with seriousness ideas that we might not be alone and what that means, or what if we are - it’s not sensationalistic, it’s just allowing the concepts to exist and seeing where they lead - what makes sense? what doesn’t? what if what makes sense to us isn’t even relevant because aliens are…well…alien? It’s a more creative curiosity than strict science seems to allow for, without coming across as unhinged like the “ancient aliens” types can sometimes be.
My favourite White Dwarf is Eridani B, WD-40. Only 16 light years away, it lubricates the entire local system.
Beauty. Lovely.
I agree with you about the moon.
400K around the corner 🙌
Youre the man
these are great videos but i wish you would leave some sort of citation for the articles and what not of where we can learn more about the topics
Thumbs up for Mars T Shirts!! 👍👍
I had always assumed that the "re-entry blackout" was caused by the astronauts having more important things to worry about than chatting to base. Keep your mind on the wheel!
A third problem for beaming space-based solar energy to the earth in a meaningful amount is that this effectively increases the earth's energy delivery and could possibly have an increase in the earth's temperature as a result. Granted, this could partially or (more than) 100% be compensated by a reduction in in CO2, but more research is needed.
Looking to read one of John’s novels. Any recommendations on which one to start with?
He’s honestly one of my favorite UA-camrs
Supermind is good
Yes, we saw that!
Clever guy
The March. Nice.
Pointing out the pun is such an American thing to do.
@@AndrewBlucherwhich one north,central or south?
A quick correction for number 10, space shuttle already did this to get around re-entry blackouts, spacex is simply doing the same with starlink
I always check to see if he dropped a new video every time I get on UA-cam
I don't know if I've ever finished these videos. End of youtube journey sometime after 12 am,I put his video on and all the sudden I wake up and it's morning. Super weird!
the seaweed thing sounds very similar to the Soylent Green movie 😅
Thank you for reminding us that the back side of the moon is the best location we have for a sensitive radio telescope - one immune from humanities's massive radio interference.
starting this one off with a banger, love a dad joke
Leave 'The Honeymooners' Ralph Crandon's face alone 😂
hey john
8:27 The t-shirt maximizer is born ...
lol...yes, sir. nice timing!
Godier Michael John
Yeah, microwaving the earth is a great idea. I can't possibly imagine how that could go wrong!
I had a recent discovery... never use a cloud as a landmark ! 😢
John, how’s it going? We still need to play Warthunder sometime
At 0:36 it's not friction that causes the plasma. It's compression. The air from the atmosphere is being compressed against the spacecraft to the point of ignition that then creates the plasma we see.
I see what you did on number 4, you aren't wrong. Maybe it's time to buy a boat and learn to farm seaweed...just in case.
I would imagine the Apollo 11 site would be a preserved historic site.
I always thought the heat created during re-entry was the craft compressing the atmospheric gases not friction !
You are correct.
The easiest way to gather solar energy at night and under cloud is called WIND. Air currents are driven by sunlight.
Seaweed aka soylent green 😊
For april 1st you should do 10 scientific discoveries on possums
We should carve a smiley face on the moon that looks back at us like :)
Spring arrives in 40 mins!
