  • A family vacation ended in tragedy when a Pennsylvania mother was attacked and killed by a bull shark. Caroline DiPlacido and her family arrived in the Bahamas aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship. As the 58-year-old went snorkeling, a shark attacked her. She was bitten on the left side of her body and later died from her injuries. Snorkeling is a popular activity for cruise ship passengers but it can be risky. In 2019, a woman was attacked and killed by three sharks while snorkeling.

As tragic as it is, there’s literally no way to go snorkeling or vacationing or whatever “safely” when you’re in the ocean. Period. End of. That’s the risk you take and it’s unfortunate but it happens. Just gotta be vigilant basically.

The ocean is home to sharks, whales, fish and all other ocean life. We must respect them in their home.

Honestly what makes a bull shark one of the most dangerous sharks out there, not because of its size it's because it can travel almost in any water environment and it can swim a lot closer to shallow water.

That’s the risk people take being in this water. My prayers and condolences to the family.

This is such a tragedy! What a terrible and shocking way to die. Sending love and condolences to the family. After hearing many similar reports, I decided years ago to refrain from swimming in the ocean. It's a shame when the ocean can be such an exhilirating experience. Especially in a place like the Bahamas where you can view such beautiful marine life. Personally I'd rather be safe. I sincerely hope this never happens again

How can you ‘feel’ unsafe? When You’re snorkeling in the ocean it’s deep everywhere and you could get attacked from any direction.

My condolences to the family. On a side note, You can't have your cake and eat it. If you're willing to experience the marine life atmosphere, understand that predator and prey is part of that ecosystem. Know that you're willingly risking your life by being in their world for this experience. Be safe.

I went skydiving in the Bahamas. It’s one of the homes of the bull sharks. I made sure to land on earth every time because of the amount of sharks in the water. It’s their home.

If you need to “do a shark check” you need to rethink your life choices. I will never understand the desire to swim in shark infested waters.

People have to realize you're in a different world down there.not your world. It's not to be taken lightly on any occasion. Rest in peace.

The lady has a right to be devastated but not angry, its the sharks home not yours. You risk the consequences every time you enter the water.

Love cruises but I NEVER go in waters potentially with sharks. I’m cautious when choosing excursions.

Even tho this is really tragic y'all gotta understand that you not gonna be safe in water because any animal from the sea can come out of nowhere plus the ocean is the sharks home and as humans we just respect that but may she rest in piece!💕

I remember going on a Princess Cruise ship and snorkeling on one of their small islands in the Bahamas. It was surreal and so beautiful yet I was very paranoid and nervous of exactly this situation. I was one of the last ones to return because it was so amazing.
