Royal Guard Collapses Near Queen Elizabeth II’s Coffin

- A moment of drama as thousands file past the queen's coffin. A royal guard collapsed while standing beside Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin. Thankfully, two Scotland Yard officers rush to help the guard. For a moment it appeared that King Charles III was also unsteady on his feet after walking for 40 minutes behind her coffin then standing to attention in the hall. Although the king did not partake in public engagements today, Prince William and Kate Middleton shook hands with well-wishers.
As someone who spent 10 years active duty Army and has spent countless hours in various types of ceremonies I can tell you this happens all the time. Sometimes from dehydration, overheating, illness or locking your legs out. I've seen it many times. Standing at attention for a long period of time is very difficult. I remember when I was stationed in Hawaii we had a change of command ceremony that lasted over 3 hours. We had to stand in formation that while time in a field with no shade and it was 89 degrees out thst day. Absolutely awful.
Lo siento mucho 😔
...looks to me a form of torture.

I remember when my dad died, I was so irritable and out of sorts. Anything (even the tiniest of things) could set me off. People handle grief in different ways. He is heartbroken, tired, stressed, and feeling the weight of his new position.
No matter how he feels he has a duty to treat others respectfully. If he can’t, he should step down and make his son King.

When I watched the procession and ceremonies for the queen's death I couldn't but wonder how difficult physically it must be to endure that and I was worried about the older people that took part in these ceremonies who had to stand for hours without moving or in the procession walk such long distances. It's a miracle that not more people collapsed.
I think it’s exhausting continuously hearing about it
Same here.
EXACTLY. The King is older than my Mom so I know it's taxing on him.
I think it’s horrible to force old people to stand for so long the pass out just for the death of some monarch. Relics of genocides and colonizations and suffering worldwide.
I am 40 and would've needed a motorized wheelchair or something! I'm all for tradition, but dayum.
Calling a man who showed 2 minor instances of short temperedness after he just lost his mother (without privacy and while taking over heavy duties on probably little sleep) "fussy" is just a dick move and they should be ashamed for treating another human being who is in pain in such a manner.
We all get frustrated over silly little things when grief takes control. Leave the king alone! He has just lost his mother. 😔

Massive respect to the guard, he did his job out of respect to the queen so well he kept doing it until he collapsed. Allot of people would just walk off and say I don't feel well but he obviously felt a lot of pride and honour in what he was doing for his late queen that he was willing to try and stand there until he could physically stand no longer.
Well done that guard, God bless you for your respect for our wonderful Queen, you should be proud of your service.

Aside from the obvious heartbreak that would come from losing your mom, I can’t believe he made it to 73 before that happened. The benefits of luxurious living
Smart Lizzy had thought of all this for the honor of Charles and sliky Camilla. The king will soon pass the crown to young Prince William for he can't bare all the bloody things in his golden age.
I'm not surprised he felt like this he has not had 5 minutes yet to mourn his mom's passing, just a little bit of built-up frustration that's all it is. Best wishes to the guard hope he's feeling better soon. All my best wishes to the new King and his family as well xxx

This part. I can barely remember my mother’s funeral. I was so busy I didn’t cry until the services. He’s going to be irritated afterwards when the crowds go away. He doesn't get it both ways. Kings aren't supposed to be whiny little girls.
okay to be fair with King Charles, I would be getting annoyed at the slightest inconvenience when going through something like this, all the grief and stress your going through and then imagine it being broadcast to the world
I served my nation for 2 years, this is one of the most toughest things to do, so 6-7hours of sleep and regular hydration is extremely important before performing for a ceremony like this. But sometimes the body just can't cope, especially if you're standing as long as this man did. Hope he is well.
why don't they change shifts?
Each person should only stand for 1 hour then change people

Addressing the coverage of King Charles and his actions, I would hazard a guess that the writer has not gone through recent loss of a parent. He has lost both parents in a relatively short period of time, has a huge load on him in the public eye and said public eye has been anything but kind (albeit sometimes deserved) over the past few decades. For all his fussiness and faults, he is a son grieving his mother who has not yet been laid to rest and will have the eyes of the world following him the rest of his life. He may be 73 but grief and loss spare no ages. Ti e to show compassion and comfort.
He probably hasn't had a decent night's sleep since the Queen's death.
You’re right sorry
That's some real dedication. I was in marching band all through high school, and part of that is marching parades. Each band goes in order, so if you're not first, you're often left standing for quite some time. The effects of what that guard suffered from can be felt coming on for quite some time, you feel light-headed, you can break out in a cold sweat, your legs can feel weak and jelly-like, you get spots in your vision that get bigger and bigger until you just drop out. So to stick that out without complaining is some real dedication.

I hope the guard is okay, that fall looked like a nose breaker:( As for Charles, give him a break. I'm not the biggest fan either but my god he JUST lost his mother and his father a year prior which is probably still fresh in his mind and not even a day after she's gone he is now king and expected to remain composed in front of the world? Getting upset over a pen is nothing worth being called a "big fussy baby" over, and on top of that, I mean this realistically, he's an old man including the grumpiness. An old, HUMAN man. These people have feelings just like us, and keep in mind they don't get to grieve openly like a normal person can.
That "Big fussy baby" should send her the bill for the wedding that her family should have traditionally paid for.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Also how cruel can you be to criticise the son of the woman who raised him, ruled for 70 years and has just passed away. Of course Charles is going to be emotionally and physically stressed. Just let him and his family grieve, how dare that newspaper insult him he doesn’t deserve that
