It was a wonderful change when that was opened up. Prevented a lot of spawn camping. But, man, if you could set up a 3rd level sentry with this map, the game was over.
2fort5r on QWTF was the best version for me. The QWTF community made it more than anything, but the map was incredibly well balanced and made for some of the most amazing clan games I've experienced in my 25 years of clan gaming.

Plus, there’s also a VERY cool Halloween version of 2Fort waiting in the steam tf2 workshop right now. It was made by steam user Ray Is Sucky but the map is still in beta right now and he doesn’t want valve to put it in the game until it’s out of beta. I playtested it and it looked so chilling. Sadly, the map has no spells but it has skeletons chasing you when someone caps. And it even has the sound of Monoculus groaning when blu caps the red intel. And just like every other Halloween map, it still has pumpkin bombs. There is also this exploit that I really hope valve never fixes, but it involves killing your own teammates with the pumpkin bombs by shooting an energy ball at them with the short circuit to make them explode when a teammate is anywhere near them

Quake's Team Fortress also had a lot of versions of 2fort that offered different features. Two big ones being a night themed version of 2fort, with more team oriented colors and even a version of 2fort featuring 4 forts, known as 4f4. Since 2fort was the most popular map back then, it wasn't uncommon to see variants of it most likely created by other people in the quake team fortress community.

I've been making Doom Deathmatch maps for some time now and i'm kinda tempted/inspired to make my own interpretation of 2Fort now, using a more advanced Sourceport of course. Already got an idea, i'll try that later.

This is sort of a stretch, but Conker: Live and Reloaded had a tale of fort deux and it was sort of a hybrid of 2fort and some battlefield/wolfenstein vibes and it was one of the most fun maps. In fact i think it had two 2forts, one future, one past. They were a bit larger, to utilize some of the vehichles (some where airborne) but still a fun time. Also its a class shooter as well.
Would love to see you do an "everything wrong with TF2's 2fort" video... My main gripe is one of both spawns can be, very very aggressively spawn camped. Once that happens the team being spawn camped basically has to get lucky enough to get into their 2nd spawn all collectively and ambush the enemy team.

Great list! Another early 2fort derivative worth mentioning is 2fort7wf (1998) for Weapons Factory, a Quake 2 mod. WF itself was inspired by TF and had similar classes, but with many additional unique and interesting weapons. Valve REALLY needs to give us an update that would update the lighting on the very first maps of tf2 which are 2Fort, Dustbowl, Gravel Pit, CP_Well, Granary, and Hydro. Because the lighting got fucked up on all 6 of these maps due to them having an outdated lighting system compared to every other new map that was added to the game in the years 2008-2022. Go watch youtuber Crowbcat’s “tf2 2007 and now” video to understand. Plus, I also want them to bring back all of the other old graphical details in that video as well regardless of the weak pc’s since we’re already gonna be dead by the time that nobody will be playing games on weak pc’s anymore. We also really need back the old spawn door for that spawn room on CP_Well that you respawn in when you die after your team capped the middle control point that lets you get back into the room regardless if you already exited it. I know that valve removed it because the enemy teams would easily get back into that room to get more health and ammo while trying to defend the warehouse control point, but the the thing is that valve forgot that it would just be a skill issue if people complained about that which is why we need the old door back regardless. And last but not least, about the fall damage grunting noises that you’re gonna see at the end of the video, I would really love for them to bring those back too along with the old leg crunch noises regardless if the grunts don’t sound like the actual voices of the classes because they would’ve became a meme nowadays just like the old minecraft “oo!” hurt noises and the roblox “oof!” hurt noises if they never removed them in the first place: m.ua-cam.com/video/w1W5DU4zmAA/v-deo.html
That would be pretty cool, yeah! It might get a little complicated, though, figuring out which differences to put where, since some of those divergences each iteration has might overlap. There's also the question of the artpass, as just about every version of 2fort seems to have its own aesthetic, more or less. Medieval, futuristic, factory, snow, canyon, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that'd be able to figure all this out, though, or at least give it an honest try.

In that 2003 leak - It was just source code and 2 character models. the map was made by the Project Beta team. That map was not made by valve.
The readme file for this version of TF2 Invasion, literally says the map was made by Project Beta.

The Team Fortress mods for other FPS games weren't the only remakes in other games, 2fort was also remade in the Weapons Factory series of mods.

I have covered 2fort's doors multiple times before, both in one of my shorts and my video "TF2's Door Problem."
@@LEDs It's more that there's a lack of walls inside the spawn room. An easy fix probably would be to have an 2nd glass door frame, in an L pattern.

I wonder why the map 2mach1 was never ported to TF2. It is a pretty nice small map for a lower player count, made for QWTF in the later days.
