I sometimes feel both Jon Pertwee and his era are heavily underrated and underappreciated. Often getting overshadowed by Tom Baker. The Silurians are still one of my favourites.
Totally agree this season was a game changer, it also set up the one female companion, as Liz Shaw accompanied the Doctor outside of UNIT. Inferno is my favourite and the best scene again for me is when the Doctor and the Brigadier are on a walk way talking about Kackatoa. Plus Spearhead from Space being shot on 16mm makes it one the best Hammer Films never to be made. Well put really enjoyed this file.
You are correct, and it is mostly a win. I totally had a crush on Liz as a kid. I appreciated some of the more serious or grown-up tone, as well seeing the Doctor as both a serious scientist and a man of action. Of course, it only deepens my continuing "Picard Face-Palm" regarding New Who...
Even though I grew up on Tom Baker, no Doctor has been so magnificent as Pertwee. In control, authoritative and utterly cool, the Third Doctor is imperious.
I love seeing the pictures. I know so much about Doctor Who. I've been a fan since 1980. The show is brilliant. Your video is great. I'm enjoying it as I type this.
I grew up with Doctor Who, first seeing William Hartnell as the grouchy, mysterious initially morally ambiguous alien, then Patrick Troughton's so-called cosmic hobo
Only just found this channel. Lots of folks post videos and a best contribute what was in the commentary of the DVDs. Understanding the time the show was produced in. The out of universe real life factors. Personality clashes, budget issues. The heads of studios who hate science fiction as a concept. As I recall Terror of The Atons had a public reaction. Complaints about scaring the public. Many noted how creepy mannequins were to them. Hey look here comes the threat of the week. Overpowered, nigh omnipotent, surely the end of all life, and disposed of in 45 mins. Real concerns, or superstition. The character that walked under a ladder in a establishing shot vanishes in a menacing way later on. A mirror breaks and in the next chapter falls from a cliff. That is what makes great story telling.
Pertwee was my introduction to dr who when i was a kid and remember the day when he regenerated to the 4th tom baker Dr who and laugh at the curly hair of tom i was at my nans house at the time of watching it as it was a thing back then when we all wanted to know who it was and what he looked like. For 7 years we had the greatest dr who so i was so lucky to watch the show with him and i was so sad when he left and as peter davison start the new new doctor i left the show i didn't like his take and the show just got worsts he was no tom baker. It took david tennant to get me back to the show again just like tom baker he was the best modern dr who and has a lot of baker in him but he didn't last as long so he left and slowly so did i with the show of 12th doctor. So now we have tennant back for a few episode's i will watch him again but i won't be watching the next new doctor for me he's is so missed cast. So pertwee got me into the show and i liked his costume somehow he looked the part with it on it had that eye catching and mystery about the Dr.
Are we sure inferno's parallel universe is a fascist regine? Benson is carrying a Russian made SKS semi-auto. Surely it would be something else if it were fascist.
It's implied that the parallel universe setup came about after a different outcome from 'a war' (possibly WW2) and that the Royal family were executed.

I preferred John rather than Tom Baker.
Tom Baker is to Jon Pertwee as Roger Moore is to Sean Connery.

A great essay on what I consider to be one of the best seasons of classic Dr Who. The best debut season for any Doctor imo 👍

Season 7 is a belter. Nuff said.
Season 7 was totally different to anything that came before in 70’s realism.
Plus the family aspect with Jo made it friendly
Yes who can forget planet /dimension /universe rock quarry.
Ah yes the Venutian Karaté. Which episode did he pick up that skill?
My first Doctor. Second favourite

Also, Terrance Dicks has said it was over several Convention interviews back in the day.
