Lani Hall had an amazing voice and was so pretty with the maestro Sergio Mendes with Karen Phillipp great music, RIP Sergio You left us with some wonderful music!
Such wonderful music. I grew up in the sixties and remember seeing them on various TV shows. Hearing and seeing these performances brings back great memories! I appreciate it so much more now.
I couldn't understand a word Lani was saying, but she had a wonderful voice and was so pretty. This song is my favorite and takes me back to the sixties when I was a kid and life was so simple.
Lani used to sing at a place in Wells St, between North Ave and Division St in Chicago back around 65 66, I think one night I saw her sing there and she was just wonderful, this was Chicago's Old Town. I think that's where Sergio saw her and the whole connection started with her and Brasil 66, and Herp Alpert , and A & M records. The right place, time, people, situation, this is the answer to what a good or perfect life is.
@@GeeBee909 If you say so, those days you just breathed the air there and get stoned, pot smoking was rampant, flower children, be ins, so wonderful, I wana go back!
My mam bought me a Sergio L.P. after searching the internet for hours, trying to find music that I'd like. I love that album. I miss my mam. 😢 Great music.
As a kid of 7 years in 1966 , I grew up with this music playing on the radio in the background . Many of these melodies somehow remained sticked somewhere in my brain . It is like ' I know this music without actually knowing it ' . I finally saw Mendes live in 2019 & it was a perfect concert. This man & his music always make me smile. The weirdest is that about 1 year ago I was in this record shop and I always go through the brasil-section . There I saw this album from Bossa Rio . I looked at the cover and thought ' it is as I know this woman in this band ' . I bought the album , went home and did an update of Discogs and found out that the woman in question is Mendes his wife Gracinha Leporace . I had seen her in 2019 live since she was on tour with Mendes his band and had taken pictures at the front of the stage . So in essence I bought a record from 1969 to find out later , that I had seen the person in question 50 years later live in front of me.
You and I are about the same age Oracle and this never gets old - it's timeless! I've never seen them live but I see they're coming to NY in June right around the time of my anniversary. My legs and back are shot but I see they have seating ...really need to think about that one. Can you imagine the energy and fun in General Admission!
I was 9 in 66' and grew up with this and listening to everything from Elvis, Motown, Chuc Berry, Sinatra to the Beatles to the Carpenters and everything in between. The mid 50s-70s had the best collection of music ever produced in the history of the world. Todays music absolutely sucks as a whole. We had some bad ass cars produced back then too. The 50s-70s was like night and day compared to todays sh!thole of a society.
Around 1970 a guy in my college dorm had the Alegria record by Bossa Rio. I recorded it and listened to it often over the years. I liked Gracinha's voice so much - she put a stylistic touch on every note and she sounded fun to be around. I believe one review I read described her as "effervescent". I was already a big fan of bossa nova and Brasil 66 and learned much later that Bossa Rio had been created by Sergio and that he and Gracinha were married. I saw a video interview of Herb and Lani where they spoke of their close friendship with Sergio and Gracinha, describing them as natural comedians who fillied their conversations with playful and affectionate jibes. They are four people who made some of my all time favorite music.
I really appreciate that I got to see Sergio Mendes and Brazil '66 live in Hawaii when I was a kid. I'll never forget that evening forever...just awesome!!❤
I guess they are miming to the studio recordings; Chove Chuva includes at least one string instrument (sitar?) you don't see onstage (in the coda Sergio acts as he is making the sound coming from a guitar).
I have many cherished memories of my dear mother God rest her soul filling our beautiful home with the magical sounds of Sergio Mendes and Tom Jobim and Herb Alpert.....I love them still, all these years later!! RIP mom and dad........miss you every day
