I didn't know about the potion to make hag vomit Vanra until I finished the quest but I did manage to save her. I did turn on non-lethal strikes and after Ethel was unconscious a cutscene triggered where my character cuts open her stomach, red riding hood style.
Lots of ways to do that. Another way is to cast fog or darkness so the spiders can't hit or use opportunity attacks. Another way is to make the duke use a scroll of misty step. I don't think I've ever used the sanctuary spell, but this seems like the perfect scenario. One time I just healed him to a point where he couldn't die.
@@thineubaut Sanctuary is a nice idea but my DM would object the second you suggest that since the spell prevents direct targeting but allows AOE to hit. And the spiders explode in an AOE. I guess for that very reason Mizora chose them ... Since Larian is a strict DM I suspect they have accounted for that. Even if they can't physically touch him, the spiders will swarm him so he actually can't move if he wanted to (with mizoras magic he does not) and the spiders take damage every turn. The AEO is triggered either at will or at their death. The other ways to rescue the duke are far more practical, successful and easier.
The best way I ever had to save Duke Ravengard was this : In Act 2 when you rescue Mizora, if you have Wyll in your party she will give you a Rapier that can summon a Cambion. Summon said Cambion before going into the Iron Throne, then use the Cambion's ability to Charm Duke Ravenguard, since he was charmed by Mizora prior (who is also a Cambion btw) this will override it as you can only be charmed by one person, and so when he escapes his cell he won't be frozen in place and can simply Dash past the spiders.
@@BornFromEmbers But is it as cool as using Mizora's own gift to beat her at her own game ? Plus, Sanctuary only protects you from being targeted if I remember correctly, it does not stop you from getting hit by aoe damage like .... the spiders exploding for example. What you might think of is the Invulnerability Sphere which is a level 6 Spell that works like that, but at the point you are better off simply teleporting Ravenguard to safety with Dimensional Door
I can't quite remember but I think when I did it I just had shadowheart cast remove curse on the duke to make him be able to move and sprint away. I just remember maining that spell a lot in act 3
You can watch a video about spell interactions and builds without expecting plot spoilers No one is a baby for warning others about spoilers or not wanting a game like bg3 to be spoiled for them. "Why watch a video about spell interactions if you don't want to know wylls dad is still alive after you turn on your pact" Some videos I understand spoilers. Don't look up how to get a companion or a guide through the under dark if you don't want spoilers. But you can watch videos about a game and not want the plot spoiled
For the encountering of the Harpers before getting to Last Light, you basically have to encounter them if you enter the Shadow-Cursed Lands through the Underdark. So while you have to go way out of your way to encounter them if you entered through the Creche, they're right in front of you through the Underdark.
Khalid is Jahiera’s first husband, you can have him in the party in BG1, he’s a cowardly half elf fighter and a good guy. Canonically he dies somewhere between the first two games
You can save the Duke with no trouble if you cast Sanctuary on him. The spiders won't be able to trigger him and he can just do a mad dash for the exit. One thing I reccomend doing in the Iron Throne is freeing Omnelum, the mind flayer. He can basically dimmension door a straggler straight to the submarine per turn. Really useful if your character is trapped somewhere and has no way to making it on time.
Imo its best to send a Thief to free him. You can pick up like 2 prisoners on your way to him and once he teleports out you could go back in and help if you got like 3 turns left and your other members got caught in a net or something
The "Balthazar joining in your fight" thing is some finely-aged cheese. They never attack the orbs, so enemies keep appearing until they hit a critical mass and the orbs go away... so you just stand back and watch the fight and get experience points from all of the carnage that is taking place in the other room.
The bigger secret is to use Dimension Doors so that your other members can deal with the spiders and heal Ravengard. Makes it easier to save *everyone*
Returning Jonas blade was actually something I did in my first playthrough. Since I did not know you could take both the above and below path, I came from the underdark and naturally met the harpers that way.
I returned the Harper blade on accident on my second character. I just happened to still have it on me while talking to everyone in Last Light but I thought it was a nice interaction.
8:16 I wouldn't consider that a very big requirement considering they are literally just in front of you if you come in from the Underdark route, you know, the one that is actively recommended to you by Halsin
Wouldn't call the spiderling bombs a hidden interaction. They're just part of Wyll's questline. Now if you could stuff them in your pack to throw at enemies later, THAT would be a hidden interaction.
The Duellist’s Prerogative rapier is actually so fun, I have it on my Astarion and not only does it look good on him, it’s just entertaining, especially since it deals necrotic dmg too. Perfect for my vengeful vampire.
I just used dimension door on him. That's a very valuable skill. I went in there with my monk, Wyll, Shadowheart, and Gale and some dimension door scrolls. Unfortunately, I still wasn't able to rescue everyone and things got even worse when a bunch of pissed off priestess ambushed me when I got back with only Wyll and Shadowheart surviving.
The summoned cat's miaow also works. It's really interesting to see which characters flat out ignore you when you're performing - for example outside Nere's cave
I tried that, they will actually spawn where he lands, at least when I did it last week (I just always make sure to send a healer who can cast Heal to go get him. Good luck taking Ravenguard down 70hp, spiders)
Yeah the stopping healing effect seems insanely underrated, obviously it’s situational but just switching from the most OP great weapon to doom hammer or sacrificing some action economy for an arrow of ilmater, using bone chill instead of eldritch blast etc
I mean besides throwing potion at wyll father you can just cast sanctuary on him so that the spiders don't come at him. Let your characters attack the spiders or let thwm com at safe distance. When they all die you can move the duke. Caste haste or throw the speed potion
You dont even need to do that. The guy has high STR, so you can jump pretty far from inside the cage. Doing so seems to break something, because then he doesnt get the Command: Grovel or w/e it is. TLDR: you can just have him jump out, then immediately dash and gtfo without being interrupted.
@EmmaBuis78 that requires having someone that can cast sanctuary though. For someone like me, looking to rescue everyone and loot every chest on tactician, i cant have dead weights. I just clean up the sahugin, send in a mage hand, then the duke can handle himself just fine.
I first saw the spiders and unfortunately for me i used ormelum to teleport the Duke directly into the sub causing the spiders to spawn inside the sub killing two rescuees and making a very tenuous escape
Super easy to save the duke in like a hundred different ways. Heal, Sactuary, just jump the spiders and dash. Stone wall dimension door. Go back into your cell and close the door then kill them...
I'm sad that the Staff of Cherished Necromancy doesn't allow you to cast Level 6 spells as a Warlock. I guess it makes sense as they are cast per day rather than using a spell slot, but still, woulda been nice.
Wow amazing 2nd tip! ... wjere the hell do you find it? You went into so much detail finding some exploding spiders that yeah are cool but not useful. For the apparently most op staff in the game? "Eh idk figure it out, you'll find it somewhere"
