Basically this is neutral game character vs. Punish game character. A neutral game character will be safer, but a punish game character will take stocks more consistently .
I also feel that Wolf is better. Having safer spacing, better air momentum and a heavy combo game makes him “fit” better into the current gameplay meta. Good informative video!
I agree. I think Wolf’s advantage state is also still really good on top of having simple, high damaging combos, so you kind of get the best of both Falco (high damage combos) and Fox (good advantage state with positioning) since his range is greater than Fox and he still has good air mobility and a nice Dash Attack which lets go for people in the air or catch their landings with it, and even if he maybe misses, guess wrong on something, or just doesn’t want to commit that hard he can go for a safe option than usually laser to tack on some percent. I also think he has better ledge traps than Fox, as his Nair and Bair are both pretty safe, can catch ledge jumps, and kill earlier than Fox’s. He has Ftilt which hits neutral get up alongside Nairs, and it also hits opponents as a two frame (like you said) but also hits opponents that wait too long to get up, and then he also has Usmash which can hit a lot of character’s Neutral get up and ledge roll. You actually just use Bair to fish for a jump read, and if they drop ledge, double jump and use an aerial, or anything else really, you can flick your shield up just in case and then Usmash oos them if you have good reaction time. Also his Bthrow lets him get kills at the edge too.
I really think the bthrow plays a lot into it. Falco and Fox do have good kill confirms with nair up smash and up tilt bair, but both require the enemy not to shield. I tend to use all 3 of the spacies a lot, but with Wolf I tend to do better just because once I have the damage it easier to get kills. Also just having as good kill confirm with fair to bair on Wolf has netted me a lot of stocks.
I love falco. He’s one of my 3 good characters. Pretty simple why he’s the worst.. kill power!!! And kinda speed. But even the speed isn’t that big of an issue
I really like all of them but, I main none of them so, though I have worked on my falco a bit basic need to have stuff like up tilt bairs, fair drag downs and idj drag downs I still play wolf/fox more they're just more effective with less time invested. I dont know that he necessarily wins the MU's but, I think Falco does really well against other spacies maybe, less so fox than wolf specifically in combo game because, comboing fox is a lot harder and he needs specific fox timings sometimes.
I essentially co-main Wolf & Fox, and I completely agree. Fox is tons of fun and explosive, and his neutral and advantage states are ridiculous, but trying to close out a stock with Fox against someone in the 135%+ damage range who can mix up landings and ledge getups can be a nightmare. Wolf's power on more attacks pushes him over the edge for me
Please make the Falco one, I love playing Falco and Wolf and I would like to know your input. I would like a new video on buffs/fixes for Falco too. :D
Great video! I agree that wolf is slightly better. Really the only significant thing that fox has on him is dash speed. Since wolf has to rely on initial dash/foxtrotting on the ground, its more laggy to put up shield and it can sometimes lead to him getting caught off guard and punished for not being able to shield quickly. Wolf can also edgeguard much better using his nair offstage, where as with fox, it is really too risky to edgeguard at all because of his fall speed and overall more exploitable recovery.
I think Fox does better against top tiers with his fast oos options and better neutral. Wolf can destroy mid and low tiers with his stronger punishes and better kill options. It’s common to see fox lose against a random low tier like Ganon. Wolf struggles more in the disadvantage state and gets juggled harder.
With Fox having the fastest fall speed, a linear recovery and the 5th lightest weight, he’s arguably the easiest character to kill. Although say Pichu dies earlier, he is much harder to hit. Fox doesn’t have a small hitbox to low profile like most lightweight characters.
Excellent break down, as usually from Larry! Your point about fox lacking true combos is something many dont think about; he relies a lot on making educated guesses or safe ones. Wolf is better consistently. He dies later, kills earlier with more consistency, and if he gets you to a percentage where kill confirms no longer work, he has a much better time throwing out up smash than fox, and can threaten more options than just smash attacks, bair, or up air, since his side b and up b can be used as mix ups(not amazing options, but the threat of them matters), and he has a kill throw(a huge deal imo). Shine tech for fox is hella underrated, with the right muscle memory it can mix up and land stalled ariels with ease. Not only that it can keep him alive offstage. Another thing I've noticed is for one it's easier recovering high with fox due to several options, and fox's confirms are with ariels and up tilts as setups along with run up grab, up/down tilt dash attack or smash attacks on certain cases percentage wise, or drag down illusion if you're feeling lucky. For up tilts it combos with itself, b-air, n-air, and sometimes other ariels if they DI a certain away. Kill options are more viable if it's drag down f-air or n-air but for ariels shine and fast fall is the saving grace. I wanted to lab out new things but not too sure what else to use
My Opinion *BEFORE* Watching: If it weren't for Wolf's recovery, it would be Wolf w/o question. I'm gonna have to give it to Fox. He has great combos, good aerials (give him wolf's fair), very impressive agility, good (though unsafe) recovery, decent specials and kill power (especially up smash). The two big flaws to Fox as a Smash character would be his fast falling and light weight. Fast falling benefits more often than not, but being light especailly that his weight was nerfed from smash 4 makes him very easy to kill. My Opinion *AFTER Watching: Fox's combo game is arguably the best of the three (just my opinion). Wolf's recovery sucks, and I'd say that Wolf being comboed easily is character-dependent. Good video! Do Cloud vs Diddy next :D
Despite fox being the one who gets comboed more I feel like Falco has it worst since his low air acceleration combined with his slightly taller hurtbox makes comboing him significantly easier than Fox
As a fox main I 100% agree. A lot of fox's "combos" arent actual true combos. They're moves that connect because you read your opponent or they D.I the wrong way allowing you to reach them and do a follow up. His kill options are so predictable. Nair/dair into upsmash - the opponent can just shield or tech given they're not outside the kill percentage. If you whiff the upsmash its extremely punishable. I've died at like 35% from hero's side b, 50% close to the edge by others. Again his recovery is so limited so you really have to change things up. No kill throws, his throws are practically useless for a few extra %. If they gave fox more kill options, maybe uped his B-Air because that's not even 100% whenever it should kill, his up-air isnt always consistent either hitting just the first and not the 2nd hit (the killing hit) make his throws actually lead into something, then he would be better. It's clear as day that fox is a great character however with his given weaknesses; he's just a glass cannon that, in the right hands, against characters better than him who are also in the right hands, it's looking icy for him.
CrimsonSlayer7 Hes overrated. Ofc, in low skilled gameplay hes a god because of the pressure but a cool minded, talented person will know how to fight that linear playstyle. Imo hes low, at best mid high tier. Literally give him a combo throw OR AT THE VERY LEAST THROWS THAT PUT THE ENEMY INTO DISADVAVTAGE and hell be top tier. But him being that crazy linear, having no range and being light asff makes him insanely vulnerable against shield camping and oos gameplay.
@@TQo1 while low tier is too low in my opinion, I do agree with mid-high tier. Light has proven that fox CAN win against higher tier characters but it is a struggle to do when that character is in the hands of a very skilled player
Wolf, hands down. Worse recovery, but his moves combo into everything and most of his attacks are kill confirms, and besides, this isn’t Melee, Fox had his time to, *ahem* Shine
Fox has a better offstage/gimp game tho imo. I understand what you mean by linear recovery, but it just goes so much further than Wolf’s recovery options, also considering that Wolf cannot do up B and side B like fox can. So I think that fox has better recovery and better reverse edgeguard potential as well due to shine and the fact that he can use both of his recovery moves to get back to stage.
the main difference is that every option fox has is slow af you can't surprise an opponent with fox recovery, wolf can also fox has no range, meaning he will lose pretty much all aerial battles if he tries to edgeguard, and since he is a fast faller he can't really afford to trade also wolf's air speed compensate for his recovery, fox has an average one and falls like a rock, he gotta press buttons and be predictable
I agree that wolf is better than fox. This video is really well made, as expected from Larry, but there's a few things I disagree with. I think that Falco actually has the best recovery out of the space animals because of his quick side b and great double jump height. I just think that can lead to more mixups than Wolf can muster. I also think the reason Wolf is the best is because of his versatility and consistent kill power. The transcendent blaster is an amazing projectile that can allow him to camp out some matchups, and make fighting zoners easier. His kill confirms are also imo easier and more consistent to hit, which puts more pressure on the opponent at high %.
Despite knowing Wolf is slightly better than Fox, I still main Fox because his fast paced and highly aggressive playstyle fits me a lot - Wolf can play like that too, yeah, but since he's a lot slower it doesn't really feel like Fox does. One thing that I don't really like about Fox though, which is a problem Wolf doesn't have, is the fact that he can't get a confirm off of ANY throw, on ANYONE, at ANY percent (unless you up throw someone at 300% on top of a platform or something, but c'mon). Of course, no one wants to see his busted melee up throw > up air confirms back or anything, but I personally think that to compensate for the fact that you can't confirm off of his aerials into up smash at higher percents, one of his throws should have a better knockback scaling to make up for it. It's not like making his up throw kill a medium weight character at 170-190% will make him broken or anything - that would just solve the frustrating problem he has getting kills at very high percentages since he can't confirm into up smash anymore. That, or make forward throw have a lot less knockback so he can combo off of it better. If he had any of these two, I'd say he would be a little better than Wolf.
Someone in a vgbc chat said it best (not exact quote)"fox is there to style on people, wolf brings the money home" Sidenote: I think fox never getting anything off grab really hurts him overall. Add this to the fact he is 5th lightest, I honestly think he is not top tier.
Julian B.F I agree. No grab combos or kill throw and super abusable recovery, and his edgeguarding is so pepega that even light won’t dare to go offstage like ever. Against good or top players, Fox is high tier

@@TQo1 while low tier is too low in my opinion, I do agree with mid-high tier. Light has proven that fox CAN win against higher tier characters but it is a struggle to do when that character is in the hands of a very skilled player
Wolf, hands down. Worse recovery, but his moves combo into everything and most of his attacks are kill confirms, and besides, this isn’t Melee, Fox had his time to, *ahem*
Shine
also wolf has a cooler outfit
Really instructive about the 3. Why not making an in depth match up analyse of Fox vs Wolf ? Keep it up!
Keep grinding. We need a return of Apex Larry.
Well I guess wolf was always right
Wolf: Your good but I'm better
Funny watching this now where he says falco is the worst of the 3 and he basically solo mains him now
Drag down forward air to tech chase is a kill option for fox when weak nair to up smash doesn’t work
Fox has a better offstage/gimp game tho imo. I understand what you mean by linear recovery, but it just goes so much further than Wolf’s recovery options, also considering that Wolf cannot do up B and side B like fox can. So I think that fox has better recovery and better reverse edgeguard potential as well due to shine and the fact that he can use both of his recovery moves to get back to stage.
the main difference is that every option fox has is slow af
you can't surprise an opponent with fox recovery, wolf can
also fox has no range, meaning he will lose pretty much all aerial battles if he tries to edgeguard, and since he is a fast faller he can't really afford to trade
also wolf's air speed compensate for his recovery, fox has an average one and falls like a rock, he gotta press buttons and be predictable
Killer Queen What you wrote is so wrong, lowkey triggers me
@@TQo1 LMAOO sorry bro
How did he miss that roll in by me Leo he looked like he was auto piloting
If played perfectly with best reaction id say fox, while wolf is literaly a carry in casual.
alex v yea but you can't play perfectly so theres no point in even bringing that up
Falco is obviously the best because of his insane Down Taunt to Down Smash combo
I enjoy more fox, but i can see where you are coming from, and i can not disagree
good job
have a nice day
Fox: HYYAAAAAAA. (Spams B)
As far as Spacies go, neither Fox nor Wolf do it for me. I’ll stick to the bird.
Noob
If you're a combo heavy player main fox. If you're style is more precision and well rounded main wolf.
Generally this is how I've seen it
Falco - high c to mid b tier
Fox - middle to high a tier
Wolf - s tier, possibly top 5 best character
This didn’t age well
Despite knowing Wolf is slightly better than Fox, I still main Fox because his fast paced and highly aggressive playstyle fits me a lot - Wolf can play like that too, yeah, but since he's a lot slower it doesn't really feel like Fox does.
8:52 Fox’s Fair spikes?
Weak spike, but yeah.
but which space animal is best looking?! also Wolf. That patch yo
Do any of the spacies cover the other spacies’ bad matchups?
The falco video better be good since u bribed likes out of us in exchange for it
Ridley is clearly the best space animal
It's not a combo, It's just a series of attacks making a combination of damage.
Is the Starfox franchise gonna be revived by any chance?
They tried with zero and failed immensely so it will be a long while
Sadly, I agree with the last statement...much love for Fox though
@@AbyssalOzen maybe if they didnt put it on the fucking wii u and fill it with gimmicky gameplay
I’ve been having fun with wolf recently so I believe is him
Someone in a vgbc chat said it best (not exact quote)"fox is there to style on people, wolf brings the money home"
Sidenote: I think fox never getting anything off grab really hurts him overall.
