- DecoArt sent me some of their pouring medium and Americana paints to try out and I wanted to compare it with my Artist's Loft Flow Acrylics & Floetrol.
Materials used (left side):
DecoArt Pouring Medium
DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint
DecoArt Clear Pouring Top Coat
Water
Ratio: 1:1 pouring medium and paint. A little water.

Artists loft flow acrylics
Floetrol

Floetrol mix: 5 parts floetrol, 3 parts paint, 2 parts water

I use the decoart pouring medium and different paints. I have vibrant colors when I do mine.

Floetrol side looks like a Galaxy! So beautiful! The DecoArt one looks like the sad little sister that will never be as good LOL! I still like it but the floetrol side is just so vibrant that I have to like it better!

The Floetrol one does look sooo much better, I love the colours!

Yes flotroll one is beautiful I love it the other 1 it's still pretty but I absolutely love the flotra
The Floetrol is beautiful. With the DecoArt one, I would've tilted a little more to allow more blue and less grey. But it looks awesome anyway. Definitely prefer the Floetrol one, though.

I like the DecoArt Pouring Medium, when I used DecoArt paint. They seemed to react well together and no added water. However with Artist Flow Fluid white and a couple other non-Deco brands, I had to add water to get to the consistency I wanted. I wasn't happy about that. Yet, I do like what the PM does, yet my opinion is it was made for DecoArt paints and that's pretty much it.

Nice Experiment but still lovin the Floetrol 😍
It seems like pouring the Floetrol side immediately while the Decoart mix sat and "self muddled" for a while might have had a significant effect on the result.
This colour palette is a YES! 😍 purple
The Floetrol wins by a mile. I had hope for Deco but it didnt pack a punch. I think you should try the medium with the Flow Acrylic paints.

Sooo of course I love the floetrol it’s brighter and the expansion of the cells is pretty! Although the purple kind was taken over by the blue. Deco on the other hand just seems complete muted, which sucks because I was hoping to like the design even without the cells but it just didn’t pop 😔.
I like the floetrol one better. Seems like the deco art one the pain doesn’t mix well. Just kind of sits on top of each other in the cup. The colors together are good. Like it
I loved the Floetrol side the best! Both are beautiful but Floetrol side wins in my book lol

I have to say I am in love with the floetrol, it is a beautiful galaxy. It would be nice of them to send you more medium and some of their soft body paints to test also. *hint *hint DecoArt

Agree. It would be more of a controlled experiment then. The vibrancy issue could easily be the paint. :-(
The Floetrol one is beautiful!! It looks like blue fire. The Deco-Art could be cooler if a stencil was used over it.

The floetrol looks beautiful so full of color the decoart seems dull but still looks good. I think floetrol wins. I agree try a stencil on decoart. Then show us. (Not telling asking in the nicest possible way)🤗

Thanks for the side by side. Many artist have done side by sides with decoArt and floetrol. I would love to see quality paint (not craft paint) mixed 1 with the pouring medium and 1 with floetrol.
DragN424-art She usually doesn’t use craft paint. When she does she usually mentions it.
I'm asking them for more of the pouring medium so I can do more experiments :)
blonde lebanese, I know. I just would love to see how the DecoArt reacts with the better paint instead of the Americana craft paint they provided. So artist loft with the floetrol next to artist loft with DecoArt medium.
Till.Death.Do.Us.Art I used DecoArt with Grumbacher pearl white. I had to add a little water, yet you can see the pearlized white in the dried piece. I liked it.
They are both pretty in their own ways. But I do prefer the floetrol. Your like the 4 artist testing the decoart products and I'm hearing the same from all of you. One said the decoart paint was almost chalky. Would you say the same?
Hmmm, I dont know about chalky, definitely a little dull though. I do love their metallic paint though!
Floetrol is obviously superior. Good on Decoart for trying to cash in on the pouring fun but either their medium formula isn't that great or their paints aren't, maybe both. The black in your Decoart piece turned to grey and clouded everything. Plus Floetrol is cheaper and you get more for your buck! The clear winner is Floetrol.
Just another testament to Floetrol! Love it! Oh hey, I've been meaning to ask you... where do you get your canvases? You surely buy them in bulk?

The first white product you poured in to the cups, was that white paint or the medium/flotrol?
All paints on the left were decoart Americana paints mixed with decoart pouring medium, all paints on the right were artists loft flow acrylics mixed with floetrol, yes, including the white paint :)

So did you mix floetrol into the paint and this into pure floetrol or paint and water into floetrol? This is how I do it but I so not get these beautiful cells.

Americana isn't impossible to get. Europe... but I can buy floetrol in big bottles here in Owatrolland. ;-)

Floetrol all the way!
Your videos are always so amazing! So I’m really new to this but I’ve been learning a lot from you. My husband has commissioned my first BIG piece (payment is chocolate cake......winner!!!!). He wants a light grey negative space with the pour in purple, lilac and gold. I’ve tried on smaller canvases to practice but I always seem to end up with some weird pinky rose gold colour.....where am I going wrong. Also I cannot get floetrol where I am in the UK.....any tips? Would love to see you have a go at these colours....I’ll send you some cake haha. Ps loved the live pour and looking forward to the next one. Happy pouring. Lisa x

What materials are you using?
Standard acrylic artist acrylic and Winsor &Newton flow aid. Payday today though woohoooooo so I’m off to grab some liquitex heavy body paints and flow aid. Thanks so much for replying xx

Based on this experiment, I wouldn't even bother wasting money on DecoArt pouring medium
i think you should check out Left Brain Artist he did a good comparison of 11 different PM. It would be interesting to see someone else (such as yourself) try this as well and see what results you get.
I used floetrol today for the first time with a 50/50 mix with apple barrel paint, using no water. It didn't turn out good at all and barely any cells. Makes me wanna switch back to decoart but after seeing this video I wanna know how I can make the floetrol work for me. Can u please help??? Thanks!
I suggest using better paint if you can. Otherwise what was the exact issue you had?
@@MixedMediaGirlmaybe I'll get some, but I'm on a budget so apple barrel is budget friendly and was good with decoart medium. My issue was it blended my my colors together and it didn't make any cells. I used a torch but didn't use silicone oil.
You may need to play around with your mixture a bit. Try a little less floetrol and a tiny bit of water, see how that works. I haven't used apple barrel but I've use floetrol with craftsmart paint with great results

In all fairness though.....you added water to the decoart medium and you poured your paints totally different. IF you try this again can just do everything exactly the same for each. Like you poured from your tubes up high to it mixed well on the right but dumped and scraped from a cup on the left side. NOT criticising just observing. I'm still curious about the medium, I KNOW it doesn't create cells like floetrol though.
A. They both had water. B. Neither was poured from "up high". C. It's not a science experiment. Decoart will be sending me more to try out though and I will do my best to make the comparison more exact :)

It could have been the way you poured the paints because you poured from bottles in the floetrol and the other you poured used paints. Just saying. 😊
The final result is a result of the initial conditions and the difference is due to you not having exact initial conditions. The proportion of colors is not at all the same in each cup and you poured them at different times, etc. In another video the Decoart product was superior in my opinion. Sloppy procedures on your part.
Every video I’ve watched with using this Decoart pouring medium has been quite a fail compared to the trust worthy Floetrol. Won’t be buying that at all. Too muddy on every turn out.
you don't even have the same amount of color on the deco art side as on the floetrol side. this was not a good comparison.

Floetrol!!! DecoArt hasn’t been performing well at all in any of the comparison videos I have watched. It’s pretty but not as vibrant as floetrol.

I know you know this, but you invalidated your test by using 2 different types of paint. You didn't fully explain that you aren't using the same paints, and I'm sure most of these commenters don't realize this. It's kinda misleading. I love your videos, but just have to be honest.
Actually I said it in the video, as well as the description. How is that misleading?
She stated this within the first 2 minutes. And she stated it's not going to be an exact science, as she didn't use a scale (again, which is stated within the first 2-3 minutes). I have no idea what could possibly be misleading, seemed pretty straight forward to me.
Using a scale or not is not nearly as important as using the same type/brand of paint. She explains that she's using artist loft flow acrylics with the floetrol but never actually says "and deco art craft paint with with the pouring medium" I did watch the video all the way through and read the description before I made my comment.
