I have the 22S that I got in the late 90's. It is my side arm for rabbits and sage rats. I can hit a 12 inch target at 100 yards off hand with my red dot scope. I often hit rabbits on a dead run at 35 yards. I sometimes set up a table about 30 yards from a sage rat colony and can take out 200 or so in a few hours. The gun has almost no recoil and other than duds it had fired everything I have put through it from the high velocity Aquila at 1700fps to sub sonic. SW sent me a package of 5 recoil spacers for free a decade ago and I still have 4 of them left. Lots of friends have shot this gun and love it for low recoil, accuracy and no one had complained about the weight. The weight is the reason for the low recoil and rapid target reacquisition. During the summer the gun doesn't get cleaned as often as it should but never complains. It get a good cleaning once fall comes around and isn't used much in the winter.

I think the S&W Model 22-A and 22S are truly far too underappreciated today. I thank you for your description of your experiences. I would think those considering a S&W Model 22 would find your information very enlightening. Thanks for watching and thanks for the positive comment. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. I have one and it's a pleasure to shoot. I don't have optics, but I'm an Iron Sights man. The Road Guide Cushion (plastic piece) so far is original. I've fired a couple thousand rounds through it. The Barrel is still in good shape. Thanks for posting.

Got one. Took it to the range just this week. Very accurate. Sold its fraternal twin, the 22s

Like falling-n-love with the 1st Girl friend .... the A-1 was ... and is .... still my 1st luv. I have the 7" barrel. It luv's CCI std 40g rd nose ammo. Retired the Remington 597 in lieu of the A-1. Works well out to 80-100 yds for rabbits here in WY. Having a red dot has increased the accuracy ... BUT ... acquiring it takes a bit longer than the iron sights. Is attached to my left leg with a combat holster that accommodates the long barrel. BUT .... the MAIN rabbit dispatcher is my Taurus TX22 for closer-in distances up to 60 yds. Been a long time since I've seen a UA-cam vid on the A-1. Thanks.

Buy .22 lr snap caps, do not dry fire .22 lr firearms. I have this gun in the 5.5 inch barrel length. Purchased my S&W 22A-1 pistol in August of 2010. I called S&W today and ordered the following parts: 4 grip screws, 3 recoil spacers, 1 extractor, 1 extractor spring, 1 recoil spring, 1 firing pin and 1 firing pin spring. They’re shipping everything to my house “No Charge”. Don’t hesitate to call customer service if need anything.

Great 22. Accurate and fun to shoot.. Just don't use strong cleaner like carb cleaner on it. Strips the paint/finish off. Don't ask how I know...

I believe the S&W Model 22-A was introduced in December of 1996. The stainless steel version (the 22-S), was introduced the following month, January 1997. The 22A was basically being replaced by S&W's Victory Model 22 sometime around 2016. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching. I think your model is the "S", not the "A". With it being an "S" model it will perform for many more years trouble-free with good cleanings and well selected ammo.

That would be nice, but mine says 22A on the left side of the frame. The 22-S has a stainless steel barrel and frame. Mine has a steel barrel and aluminum frame. Thanks for watching. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on UA-cam.
