Anyone else here because you recently discovered this song/band and wanted to see someone else's heart burst like yours did the first time you heard it?
I walked up to a stage in 2014 at lollapalooza thinking I was seeing "Motion city sountrack"..... then Manchester Orchestra started to play. I'd read wrong and never heard of them. Never stopped listening since.
my fav album so far. and find it fitting that The Silence is the last track, that after that last note you are left with exactly that, silence. this album is just an experience
I couldn't agree more, the album is a masterpiece but this track is on another level altogether, as you say it's in the class of stairway to heaven. These guys deserve so much more exposure.
My grandson turned me on to Manchester Orchestra a few years ago...been a fan since then. Watching you two watch them, experiencing the same things that I do, I realize that I have the goal of attending one of their concerts and experiencing this with a roomful of people. At 65, I've not been to a concert in over 20 years but this is, at this time, the ONLY thing on my bucket list. Please review Telepath. Bring tissues. Yes, I'm repeating myself. Happens in old age! ;)
This is one of the best bands on the planet. It is a shame that people are just now discovering them from this song. I have seen them in concert 5 times now, and will see them 50 more if life will allow.
I went through a long period of not listening to music. I would have the radio on low in the kitchen most days and nights. I was in a deep depression, and I just wanted silence then to sleep. One day I was just poking around on UA-cam, and I came across this video. I've been a fan ever since. 🖤
The “OHHH HOOO HOOO” mike gives in the beginning… is how every human hearing a CLASSIC feels. It’s the feeling I felt the first time I heard Starway to Heaven, Mozarts Lacrimosa, Johnny Cash’s Ring of fire, Eminem’s Lose Yourself, etc… when a classic is made.. the feeling never wavers… it should be preserved for all time… and this song… is a CLASSIC.
I absolutely felt in love with this song a few weeks ago. And now i can't stop listen to this masterpiece day by day. The full live version is also great.
If you want to hear more of this band you should try “I know how to speak”. There is also an acoustic Version, two guys from the band with their guitars, just fantastic...
This is music at its best. The voice, the beat, everything. You two really enjoyed it and i suggest that you take a deep dive into this band, they're a treasure chest.
I've listened to them since 2011 (the year that my daughter was born) and recently re-discovered them by way of this album (the year my daughter's father passed away). The "prayer" in regards to his daughter at the end of the song gives me goosebumps. I'll be a lifelong listener of them for sure.
WOW - best looking reaction hosts on UA-cam! And I've been listening to this soul-lifting tune for about three days straight and can't get enough! The drums, his voice, the lyrics, the POWER they bring to the last live half is astounding. I have to agree with another commenter about needing to check out their "I know how to speak" tune. There's a live, acoustic version that will just break your heart. Thanks for a great reaction to a great tune! And stay sexy!! :)
They're an Incredible Band! "The Mistake", is 1 of the Greatest Songs of all-time! The entire album is Amazing! There's something about his voice that just echoes in your soul!
The great thing about Manchester Orchestra is that they release demos and acoustic versions of many of their songs with minor differences so you really can choose your favourite version!
Been listening to these guys since 2011. Andy Hull is a genius music and songwriter. Lyrics are really deep. There's typically no chorus in any of their songs, just a beautiful story.
I'm not sure where you two live, but Manchester Orchestra is touring over the next several months. I have my tickets for The House Of Blues show in New Orleans. This band is nothing short of amazing, and every song on A Black Mile To The Surface and The Million Masks Of God is breathtakingly beautiful. Their music changed from their albums I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child, Hope, Mean Everything To Nothing, and Simple Math, after his daughter was born. Andy has incorporated his daughters voice into both ABMTTS and TMMOG. The first track on ABMTTS, The Maze, is written about Andy's daughter, Mazie. The first half of the song is from the prospective of his baby girl looking up at her dad with uncertainty, with lyrics like: I never mind about bothering you I'm trying to decide if I'll bother with you So, feed me your wisdom and breathe me your truth I'm amazing And Andy, looking down upon his daughter in her crib and comes back with: Somebody said it's unspeakable love Somebody said it's unspeakable love Well, you don't believe I can speak well at all You're a maze to me And ending in a choir backing him with: Somebody said it's unspeakable love It's amazing You lift that burden off of me You lift that burden off of me You lift that burden off of me The Maze is a perfect song that I wish were much, much longer.
hello Mike & Ginger, i love to watch your reactions. You guys should definetely react to THE ALIEN video by Manchester Orchestra, its a very touching song and video. Ginger may probably cry i promise. :-)
This album was the background music for the last few weeks of my dear mother's life as I travelled to and from the hospital, this song in particular just summed the situation up.
Such a wonderful song, such a wonderful reaction! This band's really evolved over their albums and they honestly only get better as they go (though their early stuff is also excellent). The Silence is one of their more 'cinematic' songs, for a lack of a better word. The rest of this album is great, I like "The Gold" and "The Grocery" after this track. From the rest of their disography, you can't go wrong with "I Know How to Speak", "Cope"(from the album Hope, but the version from the Cope album is fine, too), and "Shake It Out"
Just saw them live for the first time in Toronto and I have to say that it is easily the best sound/mix that I've ever heard live. These guys are enormous live. Their studio stuff simply does not do them justice.
Ginger always has the most interesting outfits and hairstyles! Idea for the Patreon suggestion box: photoshoots with Ginger, featuring World renowned photographer Mike!!!
I'm not crying your crying....Awesome reaction from Ginger, I did the same thing in 2013 / 14 when I first heard Cope, then Hope! The Black Mile To The Surface is the greatest concept album of the past 2 generations. Prior to their new album, they put out a concert video of the entire album start to finish, flawless!
I felt like you felt and I haven’t stopped feeling it since the first time. I’ve seen them live in UK 4 times since first hearing this, they just get better.

Mike saying only been doing channel for six months....... well that really has been worth it. Love watching you guys and has also opened me up to new groups and singers I have never heard of before. Facts. Some amazing songs on this one also.
I don't know of a better album front to back.
I’m still in the corner that this is one of the best songs ever produced. Up there with Stairway to Heaven and others. My own opinion.
Hard to argue - G
It's an absolute masterpiece.
I couldn't agree more, the album is a masterpiece but this track is on another level altogether, as you say it's in the class of stairway to heaven. These guys deserve so much more exposure.
Agreed
One of the best but least known Bands out there. They fill your ears, but also your soul. Every song is so different, very versatile.
I tear up every time I see this live or hear a live version. Best band on the planet.
Manchester Orchestra is fantastic at making haunting songs. Their album “black mile to the surface” is amazing from start to finish!
Yeah, I'm a few years behind on their music but I should be caught up by Sunday. :)
My favorite independent artist group EVER!! ANDY is a BRILLIANT LYRICIST
What a beautiful sound. That drum in the background was haunting. His voice was amazing.
Great, great choice guys. Definitely more of them please.
For me, one of the best lyrics made, with a melody that says it all with the lyrics. Congratulations and best wishes.
I’ve listened to that song many, many times and it still gives me chills and goosebumps.

I absolutely felt in love with this song a few weeks ago. And now i can't stop listen to this masterpiece day by day. The full live version is also great.
From their first album to their latest. Amazing. Been listening to their stuff in my mom’s car since I was 3.
Literally my favorite band ever. I loved seeing you hear them for the first time.

Love the way you draw pictures to explain this wonderfull masterpiece. For me, The Silence, everytime leaves my heart wide open at the end.

I love this version of this song and love how the song continually builds. One of my all time favorites.

Why do I deserve the science
To feel better about you?
At a loss I lost my cool
I denied that I found you
I tried to be a basket case
I did not surprise you
I'm trying to find a signal fire
Let me know when I should move
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
Why do I desire the space?
I was mourning after you
I was lost and lost my shape
There was nothing I could do
I don't want to waste away
It was all I gave to you
Take me back and take my place
I will rise right up for you
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
All the while you waste away, you're asking
"Did I really need another one to take me down?"
Everybody knows it's something that you had to live with darling
Nobody's gonna tear you down now
There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection
There was nothing but quiet retractions
And families pleading, "Don't look in that cabinet
There's far more bad than there's good, I don't know how it got there"
That was something your father had burned in me
20 hours out of Homestake eternity
You can go anywhere but you are where you came from
Little girl, you are cursed by my ancestry
There is nothing but darkness and agony
I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking
Let me watch you as close as a memory
Let me hold you above all the misery
Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here
