  • We had some really funny times. The funniest when at a pond in Hana, a sunset, and thousands of frogs. Bruce decided to have some fun, and we lifted the frogs connected to each other very carefully and watched them hop back to the pond piggy back style. It was a race. We never stopped laughing. We hope you like the video, it's a little something we put together for our friend. Edited by anjani lynn white

Bruce recorded with my band BANG doing 2 songs on our MOTHER and MUSIC albums for Capitol Records in 1972 and 1973 ... he was outstanding ... best drummer I’ve ever played with also a truly kind and gentle soul ... he’s truly missed so glad we reconnected in early 2000’s and got to play together again ... miss you Bruce so glad our paths crossed ❣️👏👏👏❣️

I didn't know that Bruce was dead until viewing this. I am saddened. I used to have a friend that told me that my drumming reminded her of Bruce Gary and I always thought that was the most amazing compliment. RIP Bruce.

so sad to find out he's gone. he was my favorite drummer as soon as i got that album in 1979. it sounded huge. i know his every lick by heart from that album. i use alot of them in other rock tunes.
i'll be doing alot more bruce chops from now on, share it with the people.

Me asleep at the wheel and just found out that he died along with Doug Fieger. So sad. I was a teenager in high school and used to listen to their music all the time in my Yellow Gremlin and my '79 Celica GT. I used to play drums in high school and in a rock band back in the 80's. Makes me appreciate how short life is and how precious it is. It is what we do with our time on earth that makes us remembered.

I knew him as a Beatle enthusiast as a young teen at Parkman Jr. HS in Woodland Hills during the mid-60s. During PE lineup he was always singing their songs to himself and anybody listening with great joy. He became an outstanding musician. I'm sorry we couldn't reconnect before his passing.

I had no idea Bruce had passed until reading these comments, I feel under educated about one of the best drummers in rock n roll. one special gift he possessed was the ability to hammer away like crazy but then other parts just sit back and play the beat. I wont make any comparisons out of respect, but he reminds me of the best drummer ever lived. that's all i'll say.
he took a pop bubble gum band and gave them an rippin edge that even a punk fan would drool over.

Years ago, I was vacationing at the Hana Ranch on Maui. I was in the jacuzzi and a guy races up and jumps in. It was Bruce. We became instant friends; he was like that. The next night was New Years Eve and we shared a table with our dates. A band played cheesy songs. After five bottles of pricey champagne, Bruce leaned over, dared me to commandeer the stage with him and play "My Sharona." I didn't know how to play it. Bruce said, "It's two chords!" I wish I had. I'll always remember him.

I saw them play the Forum and I met them all (The Knack) at the Coach house.
I once asked a very high level bass player (who had played with Bruce in The Giants, unbeknownst to me) , "Do you know who the best drummer in the world is?". He wondered who I would say as he asked "Who?"
I said "Bruce Gary" and he said "You're right but how do YOU know that?"

i Do know that, but you listen to the fills in Your Number or Your Name or Let me Out for instance, and you can hear the Moon style. BTW Moonie had better rythym earlier on in the Who. He just lost it over the years due to booze and coke and just plain overadrenalin. BTW, I'm Nightwatchman. I just changed my user name.

Thanks -- he was amazing. Any idea how I could get a hold of one of those great black and white Gretsch ads? Maybe a back issues of old music magazines? If you could send me a high resolution scan I'd promise to send you a t-shirt I'd like to make from it.
