This is from a documentary released in 2004 called "Getting the Knack". I remember this snippet when I watched the DVD. Bruce was absolutely one of the best rock drummers ever.
I saw the Knack (with Bruce) open for the Kinks in 1987. He was a sensational drummer! I also heard the Knack with Pat Torpey and Dave Henderson (Holmes Jones). Both were also great; however neither were Bruce. Bruce is my favorite drummer of all-time.
Bruce Gary was a beast of a drummer who made the Knack the huge success they were. Any band is only as good as their drummer. This is the truth..I am a drummer. (LOL)
I play guitar and bass, and I'd say a band is no better than their drummer, but their success on top of that depends on their vocalists. I'm in an adult music program (School of Rock) and we have several drummers in our ensemble for different songs, ranging from studio and touring level drummers, to beginners. If the fundamentals aren't there, it's tough as hell to play with them. If the fundamentals are there, then it's just adapting to their style, which I find a challenge, and a lot of fun. (I am no great musician, but good enough to appreciate these things).
Bruce was both lightning-quick handed and smooth as butter at the same time. His licks were always tight and tasty. Rest in Greatness, Bruce!
Bruce was a tight drummer...One of my top 10 favorite drummers of all time.

The Knack were horribly disabled without this man.

Have to agree with both comments (fellow drummer) Bruce was phenomenal . I'd love to see more of the tape this clip was from
