My son built 2 of these to help remove 2x8s from a board walk. This was his Eagle Scout project. This is a bit heavy but it really worked well. His total cost was about $12 per pry bar. He wrote down the handle "Scout is Thrifty".
Just finished building mine, as per your instructions. Works beautifully! Already reclaimed a lot of pallets for present and future projects, which I keep secret from friends, just to build the mystery... thanks, you’re good!
I built this design & used Harbor Freight Pry Bar. It worked great initially. Where I ran into problems was with the bar itself. When pulling boards up, one of the bars bent downwards due to stress. So either get a heavier pry bar or situate the bar so that it is supported better by the 2 X 4.
I took apart a plywood decked pallet and one that was decked with lighter pine boards today. At my age I have a two pallet per day limit. The pallet buster will be great on standard pallets.
I just made the pry bar and tested it out on a couple of pallets. It works nicely but does take some practice and getting used to it (a bit cumbersome), but once you get used to it it works pretty well. Just some thoughts: 1. Definitely use wood glue AND bolts. I just didn't think 3 inch wood screws would hold up. I used 7" x 1/2 hex bolts with washers Instead. I used three of them staggered. 2. I found adding a handle at the top of the pry bar head made it much easier to move it into position. 3. Finally, I discovered that it's better in some cases to remove the ends by placing the pry bar between the middle and end of the plank and use a 2" block of wood to pop the ends out ( sometimes slipping the bar in so you're using the wider pry bar wooden head instead of the claws). Thanks for posting the video. I made mine with 2x4s and two pry bars i already had. Total cost was about $6.00.
Thanks so much for the concept! I built one...I used carriage bolts instead, though, and drilled the additional hole in each bar for another pair of carriage bolts...Makes the process ten times faster.
Wow, I am going to Harbor Freight to see if they have any cheapo pry bars. A neat design, perhaps a few tweaks here or there, but a great hack overall, thanks for sharing it here!
ephraim vivian I was thinking about building it today but seeing your comment brought some doubts about it. When you said destroyed 10 pallets, did you really destroyed them or dismantled? Im trying to find a way to dismantle pallets without destroying the wood. Thanks for any info you can give.
If you like having fingers you should use a push stick when you're operating a table saw. Do not use a table saw like that folks. It's not worth the minor convenience.
Where would we be without the youtube safety police..... was nowhere near thin enough of a cut to warrant a push stick. If you cant cut a 4" rip without chopping off your fingers, thats called natural selection and its best for humanity......
This pry bar works pretty well! How ever it doesn't work as well as the metal pry bar iv also made. But for someone without a welder and minimal tools it dose the job pretty well.
patrick mcglone i thought you only needed an impact, drill and jigsaw. not a router, band sander, &c. it Would have been nice if you just stuck to those 3.
Thanks for sharing , I've been working on pallet projects for a while now but it's been a struggle dismantling palllets without destroying the wood. I've been thinking about building one myself but does it take the pallets apart or destroys all the wood? Thanks
That is best project ever seen and you would of made your money back if sell them as someone would loved to buy it because they are quiet handy to remove pallets for more project and I'm thinking of making workbench top with storage for my tools
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. You explained everything very well how to build it. One thing I do not understand: why do the pry bars have to have an arch? What if they haven´t ? (i.e. they are straight). Isn't more important that the down part is (nearly) a 90 degree angle?
You can use a arched or straight pry bar, these bars were the only option i had so i bought them. in my opinion i dont think it really matters, it all depends on your fulcrum point. i hope this answered your question! Thanks for watching.
*** Great Job on design and assembly, BUT- - - Does It Actually Work????? Could you show us how well this design works on pulling a pallet apart? ( OR has it fallen apart when you did try it? )
This is awesome! I have just been using a pry bar and hammer and it takes me forever. I can't wait till I have the time to try this. Do you know about how much this cost you to put together?
Good concept but has a design flaw, I built it per your plan, problem is the pry bar foot is way to short, need to be at least 3-4” like your metal one. As it is you brake every board .
Must say... this is the most workable useful DIY pallet buster I have seen. I made a simpler version which has stood up to over 100 pallets. I have a video how to and showing mine working if that would be of interest. Tha is for sharing!
I have some pallets I want to break up. I have a Harbor Freight pry bar like this. But the pry end is too short to reach across the slat. I have to pry one side somewhat then the other. Because it would split the slat if I pried only from one side. It seems to me this video showing that just putting a longer handle on this same pry bar is going to pry up the whole slat and not split it? Can someone help me out with this....lol. Thanks for anyone's help. Jesus bless.
Let me just say, I built one of these today, broke apart a pallet, and then regretted every moment of it. Now I have a pallet frame I need to get rid of, and a small stack of boards that I feel 'meh' about. But if anyone insists, I bought 4ft and 2ft 2x4's (2 each) from lowes that were perfect for this. I used both of the 4ft 2x4's for the 'center' and the 2ft's for the pry bars. Did everything else the same, except I attached the pry bar blocks on either side with 3/8 3inch lag screws and 1/4 2.5 inch lag screws to attach the pry bars themselves. Then I put a nifty little handle on the back. I can't say I'll ever use this again.
Nah. I'll spend my $80 on a new real one, use it for the expected 3 hours, then sell it field tested for $50. So much less diddling around. Good project though!
+Creative wood worker Sorry! I made this as a quick how to for people that don't have a welder. Because it was a quick build (as I say in the video) I didn't glue the wood together because I wasn't planing on keeping it. I felt it wasn't a fair demonstration as it wasn't 100% complete. It dose work though for a alternative if you don't have a welder. But I'm hoping this will spark some creativity in people minds to make there own and alter it to there liking! Thanks for watching.
why didn't he is a Cricket bat ? also that bloody music, if you can call it that ( ,back ground racket,) , music, ..why didn't you show us it in operation.......cause it didn't work and you Brock it, English Mik

This has been a great video very practical very easy to do with a limited amount of tools great job kid
Thanks 👍
This is so brilliant I'm pissed off about it! Nicely done sir!
omfg! this is the best and coolest way to build a palette remover without welding lolzz
Great idea as I don't have a welder but do have pallets with plenty of wood and looking for a way to stay standing save my old back
Excellent video. To the point, clear and concise. Thank you!

. great video
Excellent idea! Really thinking outside of the box!
Oct. 15, 2019---Thanks again for this video. Just got done with the one using a MiG welder, something I don't have.
Thanks so much for the concept! I built one...I used carriage bolts instead, though, and drilled the additional hole in each bar for another pair of carriage bolts...Makes the process ten times faster.
Great work! im glad the video helped you out!! enjoy!
I built one of these and it works great! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching! im glad the video helped you build your own!
Great video as I don't have a welder or welding experience, thanks for uploading 👍

Im glad you enjoyed the video!
Felix beat me to it. This looks a great tool but does it work!!!!.
I'm absolutely making one of these out of pallet wood this weekend!!
Excellent instructions! Well done!
+James Meyer Thanks!!
It's perfect I built one today destroyed 10 pallets in no time at all
LMAO

@@sherrivasquez3206 Triston watched a guy build a pallet pry bar without welding and all he could say was " use a push stick" Give me a break.
"DON'T GET TO SEE ME SCREWING AROUND" FUNNY!!!
This tool seems alright. The pry bar thing is good too. Just kidding, thanks for the good idea and instructional video!
Great idea 💡 👍
Thanks 👍
Hmmm,..Very good.
But Chabunga only use horizontal flat side of garden pick. Almost never break boards.
how about a real live demo to see if it really works??
This pry bar works pretty well! How ever it doesn't work as well as the metal pry bar iv also made. But for someone without a welder and minimal tools it dose the job pretty well.
can you make a video to show us how you use it on a pallett.
patrick mcglone if you dont have a welder use izzy's
Ben Poliquin I have one but thanks anyway

Very helpful
A demonstration of it actually working would have been nice. But I really like your welded pallet buster.
Frigging genius.
Genius!!!!
Good job friend ty
I like the video. Thank you for the tip. I would have liked to see it work but I can tell you know what your doing. God Bless ✝
Thanks, Glad you enjoyed!
Glad you posted, but it would have been good to see it used.
I purchased a good pallet pry bar for £19.99 about $26. works very well. I can rip through a pallet in no time.
There is definitely options out there. Building your own tools is a great feeling so thats why I challenge myself to build them!
Buen trabajo saludos desde bolivia santa cruz
Great video.. keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Good build.
Thanks
Check out Izzy Swans Pallet Buddy. All wood and no strain on the back
Good on ya CHAMP !!
Great idea

Most the info is in the video, just listen at it again and again :)
Sorry for the misspell word: material
does it work?

Nice!
Or just a big ass peice of angle iron. Take a cut off disk and remove the middle then bolt on a handle

I don’t see the video on your channel?
@Diana Maggard I don't know where it went...I'll have to check the settings on YT

Demo?!
Tried this design and found it poor. Pry bars too short to pull all but skinny boards. 2x4 split after a couple boards.
fixe
that pry bar would be stronger made out of steel!

Much easier to just buy one on Amazon for 35.00.
he could have made it out of a cricket bat ?
Over designed. Screw bars to a block. U bolt block to pick axe handle. Done...

non mi piace perche alla fine del video non hai fatto la prova del nove, cioè a far vedere se funzionava bene a smontare un pallet.
Good technique and good execution but ... do not show that it works !!!
