Yoshin Ryu Naginata Jutsu demonstration by Oyama Noriko Soke and her students by during the 2017 40th all Japan Aikido Kobudo Demonstration at the Nippon Budokan.
-- Official presentation by the Kobudo association --
Founded by Shirobei Yoshitoki who lived around1490-1571, most likely born in Kyushu. From there, the art spread and is now mainly taught in Hiroshima.
This art is mostly practiced and transmitted by women. As one can be attacked in any situation, the most logical trainings gear would be everyday clothing - and that is the reason why they are wearing Kimono. As the founder had a background in medicine, it is also taught how some parts of the clothing can be used as bandages in case of need. Practitioners of this art study over 70 techniques to be prepared for every attack and every situation, which they should face with a state of mind "as graceful as a weeping willow, cutting flesh and breaking bones".
Originally, the curriculum of the Yoshinryu included weapons like the Ken, Hanbo, Kusarigama, long and short spear, and techniques without weapons, but is now focusing on the Naginatajutsu.

I love the nanigata.. definitely one of my favorite weapons
Thank you for your reply! If possible, please post more videos of their short staff/jo demonstrations, thank you. Oh, btw, they are formidable with their Naginatas, as well!
The women performed really well! What style is their short staff? I’ve never seen the short staff used in this fashion. It seems to be effective. I hope the post more videos.
I think it's simply a broken Naginata as it's an oval shape consistent with the Naginata shaft. I'm not very familiar with this school, but it would be consistent with what is taught in some other Naginata Koryu.
which one do you mean? any timecode? I see traditional jo vs. bokken kata, although left hand way too loose at the end of 2:06 ... you see her left hand re-gain grip, may be deadly mistake... and 2:38 will never work in real combat, be sure of that :)
I am trying to find the website for this school and I am having no luck. Do you have a website for them?
There was a website but it's down now, and we are not aware of any other official or non official website.
