The editing of these series of videos (9) was painful and took nearly 2 years on my spare time.
It has been filmed by friends and amateurs, from 3 different sources on different types of video camera, with a very very variable quality, from medium to very bad.
We focused the editing on the martial art moves as much as the sources allowed us to. This is more about the gesture than the spectacular effect.
It took a while to create something that holds together.
These very traditional schools (Ryu) are not famous among the non Martial artist affiliated.
The video were supposed to be released, but they never did nor will (...), so here they are, so everyone can appreciate these very specials videos, from these talented martial artists.
I hope you'll appreciate them.
Credits goes to my 3 friends for filming, and myself and another friend for sourcing the videos, editing, and encoding.

Interesting. Why are the thrusts aimed above the head ? Is it to bind a jodan kamae or to be in a realistic maai ? Or for some other reason ? Probably just a basic tactic - meeting the Katana very early to study and disrupt rythem... Thank you for the video.
If it wasn't for the show, the person holding the katana would have had their ankles cut off and were rolling on the floor and screaming.
@roflryan1: They are performing kata. Without kata you can't learn proper forms. I've seen lots of "martial arts students" who rather "fight for real" than train properly train. In the end their techniques looked like little children playing with rubber swords.
But the Kata's that I do are ONLY for combat. NOT to show off! you have to identify the differences in the martial arts. I know people who do katas only, and they where THE WORST fighters ever! In the end I mainly was wasting my time with them! The stuff that I do is only for practical means. It is NOT a joke with me! I take the martial arts really seriously.
***** If you think that kata is about showing off, you need to study martial arts more seriously (or longer, as you seem to be quite a beginner). Kata are made for pratical means. As I said, without kata you can't learn proper forms and moves. Without proper forms and moves you'll be a very easy target if you have to fight against somebody experienced.
But practicing kata only is as pointless as practicing "kumite" only. The two are linked.
It also seems that you don't understand the real purpose of koryu like toda-ha buko ryu. It's not about beating the others or being the best fighter around. It's about surviving and leaving the battlefield alive.
neonsundae Well actually I have been doing martial arts for some good time now! I even invented my own style! But there is good katas and bad ones. Do the good, but don't do the bad. Also boxers don't use Katas! and they are deadly! It is all what you see in it in the end. But it begs the question of WHY do they do forms in competition? It seems that it is a way of showing off! believe me I KNOW what I am talking about! I have been through all types of katas and styles, and studied SO MANY philosophies on the subject.

Showing that you have discipline, good form and control of your moves. xD
Not everything in martial arts is about combat. They are art, not just fights.
If all you want is a fight then I would direct you to other things, like MMA, boxing kick boxing, Jerry Springer, or something of that nature.
What's toda ha buko ryu translate into English as?
KumaoftheForest toda is just a name ,buka i think it is something related to armor
Originally the art was founded by a Samurai named Toda Seigen. Hence the family name Toda attached to it. But when the art became focused on the naginata, the name of Mount Buko was attached to it to indicate the change in direction of this school.
