- Arguably the most sensible bike on test, the Ibis HD6 offers a balanced ride feel with a solid spec, albeit at an eyewatering $11000 USD price tag. How did the Ibis deal with the fast techy trails of the Whistler Bike Park?

Nice one. It's good to keep in mind that the GX build is $4000 less at $6099, still with Factory suspension and, realistically, very similar performance.
loamranger in the wild
Fox factory and high end components are overrated anyways. Ill take gx and zeb with $4000 in the bank anyday
Cable shifting??? 0:01 🤢🤢🤢🤮
@@SteveRozzanothe Zeb Ultimate, is barely less money than the Fox 38 Factory
I’d go for that one and just upgrade with the Sram GX AXS
Henry's passing "Mountain biking is excellent" in the intro is really powerful. It fully conveys what I feel at my best days on a bike. No matter what bike, no matter what I do, when it is good, it is a life worth living.
Sometimes obvious shit just needs saying.
This excellently made series of reviews really hits home for me why the cycling industry is in trouble. The changes and differences per year are so small and so expensive. I would say 95% of the mountainbikers out there could hardly tell the difference between most bikes reviewed, or it just wouldn't matter so much. You can get amazing 2nd hand bikes of just a couple of years old for a fraction of the price. Plus, it's a very small group of people able and willing to spend this amount of money.
IMO, definitely one of the best looking frames available today.
I demo'd this and a Santa Cruz 5010 and thought this was every bit as peppy/poppy and playful as the 5010 which is saying a lot because the 5010 has a ton less travel.
I wonder how it'd be with a 170 fork and an angle set? 180 is a lot, especially around me. I've always enjoyed Ibis'. My Ripley is amazing.
I would love to see a review of either the scrub dc or the canyon torque dh CLLCTV because they are not talked about very much.
Love your work Henry. Ultimate steez on those jumps. 🤘
I was asking myself indeed: is it Henry or Matt?
(The whip being Matt for sure, the Table Top though...?)
Great review as always. Appreciate all the work you guys put in. Love my Ripmo, glad to see they have an updated HD option. Would have been interesting to see a non-electric Oso, very distinctive shape.
Haich Dee Six
Where is Mike Levy?
This video about versatility is exactly why I love my HD6 and Still Ripmo
Seems a lot like how you guys felt about the Capra.
when that X2 blows that bottle gonna get a hot oil bath LOL
Ibis would like to introduce you all to the Heychty 6. Now I really need to hear Henry say Wheat Thins...cue Family Guy
nice video, the bike looks like a pivot phoenix in a Enduro version
"The Haych D - Six"
Like the late Anne Heche
im pretty sure that the majority who pick more radical bikes never really ride in a way that would really use the potential of this bikes .
I am in this comment and I don't like it...
Nah you haven’t seen kids these days, they rip for sure
I live in the mecca of mountainbiking and i ride with this kids, thats not the majority
@@soidk9031 as long as you have fun and the money who cares. just saying that a lot of people would be better off with less travel. it takes aloo away from the fun if you cant really use the travel and get the extra weight up to speed. i just tend to recommend for many people who are not so ready to risk something to just go with a more traditional mtb that fits more their riding style. its just my collective experience so not a absolute truth
That describes the majority of mountain bikers today. They are more interested in looking "badass" that riding something that makes sense for them.
Is anyone else confused about why they are doing a 2023 Bike Field Test in October? I always thought these were done in the spring?
When are yall going to review the SB160?
I still have a HD3 and HD4, fabulous bikes, the HD5 was a pig, this new HD6 looks stunning and offers good value, this is the bike that Ibis should have put a motor on as it's a winner.
Interesting. I had an hd3 and been riding the hd5 for the past 3 years. The hd5 climbs noticeably better imo than the hd3. Going down isn't even a comparison
I also do not understand this comment. My mates hate my HD5 up and down, its a great climber and can bomb pretty good. Most people complained it wasn't enduro enough, but for me that was a selling point. Seems like the HD6 is also a weapon both ways which is good to see.
HD5 rider and lover here. Such a great ride for me. Recently bought a 2nd. Can't find anything else I'd want. HD6 is cool and looks great, but the travel and geo isn't a fit for 95% of my riding.
@andrewmui2633 It's simply personal choice, my HD3 is good, my HD4 is a different class,I had the HD5 for 3.months, I hated it, the HD 4, for me, is simply better.
@mickstace It's simply down to personal choice, I had the HD5 for 3 months and hated it, for me personally I prefer the HD4, why they ever changed an EWS winning bike for the HD5 for me is still a mystery other than an update to generate sales, and the Ripmo, although good still isn't as good, in my opinion, as the HD series.
Is this a Yeti? Looks like Ibis learned from the best
I don't understand all the hub bub about it being imbalanced for taller riders. It has the same geo as an XL ripmo
Finally a real bicycle
does it climb well like trail bikes ?
It seem like such a weird thing to complain about an "imbalance" of 15mm of travel especially when it's so common in the industry across trail and enduro bikes to do something similar.
Ibis also pitch this as leveling out the "vertical" travel between the front and rear axles too.
Funny to see how many people just realized that high end mountain bikes are expensive.
hrm... Goldielocks and climbs well even with a 76.5 STA due to DW link. Does seem a bit aged in the Geo but still just 'works' like the Specialized Enduro. Too bad dentist level price tag.
I think it would be good to compare them all? Megatower, SB160, Slash... but who has the time? I still think the Specialized Enduro from almost 4 years ago would still hold up.
Is the cheapest way to get into a DW link bike via Divinci?
Devinci uses the split pivot suspension design, not a DW link. Devincis design is basically the same as treks ABP or orbeas design and is not at all similar to the twin link design of the ibis
Giant is also on dw linkage
Very, very similar to the Salsa Cassidy & Blackthorn in its general shape and design.
At the end of the line every company that decide to cheap out of the size specific chainstay is just that cheap out..... When you don't take the consideration of balance between sizes and people riding you might just build one size and not bother with ones you are making compromise of the original idea!
Vs yeti sb160? Anyone ridden both?
Yes I have and they are very different. I like the mixed wheel HD6 because it more playfull, and NO it doesn't need an angle set and a 170mm fork. Why? Just buy a different bike. lol
Probably not a popular opinion but I kinda miss the swoop. Makes it identifiable, otherwise the silhouette looks similar to some of the other bikes out there.
It looks like yeti without infinity switch
The Flying BinChicken!
This bike should have a 170mm fork, not 180.
Nice bike but as always its so stupid expensive
You have to see it as some exotic car comparison test, or high end audio...
People who buy this stuff don't watch reviews they go in a store or ask their cool and young nefew
"What cool kids are riding today"
Then shows black credit card...
yep. it’s no better than the base Capra
🤡🤡
@@bimfred
they tested the most expensive build. you can get one with factory suspension for 6k us
I have yet to hear a bad review from a bike with DW-Link.
After putting 5390 miles on my Ripmo V2 in 3 years, I'd love to throw my leg over the HD6. I am so bummed Ibis canceled their race team! I follow each and every one of them other the past 5 years and this was a total blow to me. The HD6 is not $11, 000 anymore.....not even a Yeti or Santa Cruz is these days. Bikes might finally be returning to normal pricing since the "pandemic".
Cool hwhip
no wonder the bike industry is in so much trouble
Ibis pulled out of the Enduro series. Isn't this a new enduro bike? It is cool but too much $. Sounds like a familiar line. I like looking at exotic cars too, but don't need one. It is a cool bike and Ibis must be marketing to get the regional independent racers.
11000 are you out of your mind??? Hilarious, compare it to a Radon Swoop and if you can say it’s 3x better than fair enough but that price is mental 😂
"this bike is light, fast and effective"
and on the pricepoint of a new car.
6.998€ is better then other brands going for the 9.999€ but still... for a non-e-bike fully... too much. those are american prices. rest of the world doesnt earn 100k++ salary / years.
I have 20k/year. (germany) And with that i need to pay my rent, food, other expenses, etc too! Im left with roughly 1-3k/year available to spend on stuff. And if i want other stuff in life besides a bike, that goes down to 1k / year easily.
I bought a new 1,5k fully with a good frame and upgraded it myself over a year. Next bike i will buy will definately be only a premium bike frame and thats it. Stock bikes suck, compared to the price, 90% of the time if the price is "fair"
11k?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 bike companies are losing their minds and going out of business because of it 😂
finally a video without glasses guy
why do all the MTB media call the extreme descent focused enduro bikes race bikes when the most succesfull enduro bikes are the more moderate ones?
Because they are designed and built as race bikes! How successful they are depends on many variables… mainly who is riding it.
BTW, the current World Enduro winning bike has a head tube angle of 64, the previous one was 63-64.5… both have comparatively big wheelbases too (1246/1260 respectively for size medium). What moderate “most successful” bikes are you referring to exactly?
why can't it be simple as 20 years ago; XC, Freeride and Downhill. Enduro is basically modern freeride.
@@ttgflow How? Freeride had no need for lighter weight or efficient pedalling platform where as racing has definitely made manufacturers think about those things more in the freeride/Enduro sector. Ultimately, what the marketeers call the bike is irrelevant, if it has the right geo, suspension design etc you can do what you want with it. I’d bet most Enduro bikes sold never see a race timer in their entire existence.
I agree, I see it as three “enduro” subcategories :-
long travel trail bike (150-160mm, steeper geo)
Enduro Race (160-170mm slacker & longer with some weight consideration)
Enduro freeride/park (170-180, the slackest & longest)
@@Mockle07
i dont think they are designed as race bikes, they are designed as fast bikes for normal riders(a real race bike(build for racrs to be fast would not do well on the market)
winning biks like the yeti or the rocky mountain are more moderate the things calld race biks by journalist are ofte the norco rangs transitions spires forbiden dreadnoughts nicolai g1....
the altitude and sb160 are not extreme enduro bikes
journalist tend to confused extreme downhill focuss with race bike while the sucessfull race bikes tend to be mor ballanced machines
Looks like a carbon Banshee... From 7 years ago.
hey-che dee six
That kind of money I’ll buy a new motorcycle
Why does Matt beer looks like he’s disappointed in me in every video
Claim you’re hour ticket here
11k and you still need to buy some steering angle stuff.
but 11000?.........
You can view this field test as the hypercars of MTB, they're all expensive lol
Yep, completely unrealistic, how many people are going to spend $11,000 on a mountain bike? you can get a brand new motocross bike for less.
"Haeech Dee"
What?
Haeech Dee.
Why are you putting so much emphasis on the H?
I'm not i'm just saying Haeeech Dee
Say cool whip
Cool whip
Now say Aeech Dee
Haeech Deee
*see family guy cool whip for reference*
I found it be an incredibly unbalanced bike no amount of tweaking helped
So the specialized enduro is still the bench mark.
The presenter clones are dusty today, need oiling.
short axs reverb is ibis problem, they can choose not to spec it. ibis comes off the hook so easy, this is just an ad for them.
Lol what?
They do spec Shimano SLX and XT builds, they come with a longer BikeYoke Revive, great dropper post
Nope, that's a Sram problem lol, they don't offer long AXS droppers
@@momchilmarinov2625 you can choose to not spec shit parts
And the industry has no clue why they are losing money. Stop pushing these overpriced marginal performance gain bikes.
This is getting ridiculous.
Yep, the vast majority of people aren't pro racers and aren't going to receive any benefit by riding a high end bike over a mid tier bike.
Carbon frame... no thanks!!!Total pass for me besides the CRAZY expensive price.
Of the comparison, the only one that appeals to me is the Pole Onni.
If you didn't mind a little less travel, you could easily get an Ibis Ripmo AF (160ish front, 150ish rear, IIRC).
Still DW-Link.
Still modern geometry, though not hyper-slack since it's on the line between trail and big enduro sleds.
Friend got one on sale with a decent-enough spec (DVO suspension, SLX drivetrain and brakes) for maybe $3k. Don't know that they do a Cadillac trim on the AF, but there's just not a huge market for super blingy parts on alloy frames these days...
@@srsbsns7673 thanks for the suggestion!! 💪
Currently I own a YT Capra AL of 2016 and I'm looking forward to change it.
My main options right now are the Pole Onni and the Propain Spindrift AL.
11k
For this garbage? Lol
Too bad you're too poor to afford it lol
@@momchilmarinov2625the kind of reply i would expect from an iphone user.
Builds start at $6k
Can't listen to the English speech defect
Yeeow! Keen
The tested build is the SRAM XX AXS, so your are paying a premium for that wireless and it is only available with the carbon rims and hydra hubs.
I would personally go for the Shimano builds, they are less expensive with a better/longer dropper with the BikeYoke Revive. Now are the carbon rims and Hydra hubs worth the extra $1400 vs the Blackbird Send alloy with Ibis hubs? I've never ridden hydras so I can compare, but the engagement on the Ibis hubs is not great.
I also did wreck 3 Blackbird Send Rims (with cushcore) in the last 14 months, saving grace for the rims (and frame for that matter) is the lifetime warranty and Ibis honored it with no issues.
