Dodge 24v Hydro Boost Replacement on 2nd Gen Cummins

- My hyrdro boost brake booster unit has been leaking into the cab since I got my truck. I figured it probably wasn't supposed to do that. Looking on the outside of the fire wall I could see it was leaking down there as well. It actually leaks power steering fluid due to how it operates. Now that it's replaced it should be good to go. Enjoy the video!

This is the best video I've seen for replacing a Hydroboost on a 2001 Dodge Ram. Thank you.
Also. On these trucks don't let them run out of powersteering fluid. No powersteering fluid = no brakes
Learned that the hard way last night
Yeah just learned that myself damn near put the truck into the car in front of me.
Lesson learned but I had no idea it was even out of fluid.
Weird mine ran out of fluid and locked the brakes up. 3 times had to top it up made it home and locked them up again lol
@@dillonwells5649 Did you find out the problem?
I have the same truck so you really help me out a lot on whats wrong with it and what I wanna add to it
Thank you for watching! I'm glad I'm able to help out, best of luck with your truck as well!
@@AllThingsBoost i found your channel trying to figure out sum and I was like I like this guys content lol
At 8:46 minutes he talks about that bracket that's blocking access to the top right bolt and nut. There is hole in that bracket in front of that bolt that lets you easily access that nut. I used a deep socket and a short extension and was able to go up and around the bracket, then through that hole in the bracket to easily get that nut off.
I took off the panel under the wheel and used an impact with lots of extensions. Made everything more accessible.
Mine is leaking in the same area was looking at rebuilding it but don't think parts are included to fix the pushrod are were mine is leaking.
did you end up figuring it out or just buy a whole new unit? Have the same leak, just would rather keep OEM and rebuild it - just wondering if it was possible with a rebuild kit?
Never had chance to rebuild it. Some Idiot in a Hyundai pulled out in front of me and demolished that Chinese piece of Junk but slid hit medium in road and bent my control arms but truck was still running almost ready to get it for Alignment work soon. I might just replace whole Unit.
@@dunnoyolo2238 just seen this, i ended up trying to rebuild it, it’s practically impossible to rebuild it if it’s coming out of the pushrod due to the rebuild kit not having the two push rod seals, and after buying 4 different sets of pushrod seals made for it dont work and aren’t meant for it. not to mention you have to cut and re weld the pushrod back together to get the seals on n off
Another great repair 👍!!
Thanks for the great video!!
Did you have any issues with stiff brakes after replacing the hydroboost? I just switched mine and the brakes are very stiff to no brakes.
Yeah, sorta. Apparently they are pretty sensitive to the output shaft length. When I did this, the shaft that came with it was too long, as a result my brakes slowly locked up on me. The one I have In it now is a hair too short so it's a tad soft, i was an idiot and got rid of my original. That's the first thing I'd try.
@@AllThingsBoost I just finished installing the original push rod and it was so long that I couldn’t even bolt on the master cylinder. The original push rod caused
about a 1/2 gap between the two mating surfaces. Not sure where to go from here.
@@jimmy21217 there is a spacer that gets moved from the old hydroboost to the new one. Did you move it over? Message me on Instagram if you need to discuss further, better than comments here. @AllThingsBoost
@@AllThingsBoost what year is your truck. I’m having the same issue and mine is a 01
@@billytheEPIC 2001
Right where you took out the first gasket is where mine is leaking. Can i just replace that? For now.....
I'm honestly not sure. I just shared my experience with replacing this part, but I am not an expert on these systems
Just did this with my truck. My brake pedal sinks to the floor. Almost like its being sucked in, could this be a faulty booster?
Possible, I believe there is a return spring, but I'm not sure. Worth looking into.
Awesome video. Just noticed fluid on my floor like yours.
I noticed you didn’t put the spring back. Is the spring necessary?
Perhaps it was off camera, I rewatched my video and am not sure what spring you're referring to, but always put anything like that back where it came from to ensure proper operation
I bought the same thing. But it didn’t come with that little cylinder/ rod coming out of it…
Probably for the better. Not reusing my stock one caused some issues.
where did you get the smoked fender and tail gate lights i want some for my dually? a link would be much appreciated if you have one
Ebay and Amazon. I have 2 other videos specifically dedicated too the lights
Was this a new or remanufactured unit?
Pretty sure they are remanufactured
I purchased the same one and it did not include push rod coming out of unit into master cylinder. Must I swap my old one over?
Yes, I should have as well, using the one that came with it caused issues because it was slightly longer
"I dont know if there's a specific torque rating..."
Two uggas and a dugga
shoulda woulda coulda popped the 2 brake lines of n pulled the entire unit out and worked it on the bench
And bleed the master cylinder and all the brake lines? No thanks
just bought a 2000 dodge 2500 cummins, had no hydrobooster went got a new one but cant bolt the master cylinder on because i dont have the spacer any idea where i can get it new? cant seem to find anything online.
Oh shit, that's a tough break. Honestly I'd check local junk hard man. I wish you luck.
@@AllThingsBoost yea thats what most say but haven’t had any luck, thanks
If the brake booster goes out does the ABS light and brake light come on the dash?
No. Usually that's related to a speed sensor or abs module
@AllThingsBoost ok from what I found on the internet is there are 3 speed sensors 2 in the front and 1 in the back. I replaced the 2 front hub assemblies last year and they came with brand new sensors. I guess I have to check the rear one and test the ABS module.
I replaced it and when I steer it the brake engages do you know how to fix that
Check line routing. You may have also gotten a bad hydro boost where they rebuilt the internals wrong.
