MSI MPG Z690 FORCE : A rushed product?

MSI is going all in on its Z690 series of and gets heavy on its rare MPG Z690 FORCE motherboard.
It has THE best VRM solution a sub 400 bucks board can feature, and impressive specs all around.
Nevertheless, it does suffer from a (very) buggy BIOS and shows obvious signs of rush when looking at the strange RGB placement.
Unless MSI addresses the BIOS issue, the MSI MPG Z690 BIOS remains a great overclocker which cannot comfortably overclock.
Therefore, keep looking for fresh and stable BIOS for this otherwise great power-house.
Enjoy 😊

Very thoughtful review. I bought this board recently (before seeing the review) but thankfully it seems MSI has addressed many of the bios problems with recent updates. On the most recent bios I have not experienced freezing or glitching when attempting to overclock cpu or ram. Perhaps your review helped accelerate fixes, which in turn benefitted folks like me, so thank you!
thinking about buying this mobo or the asus prime-a one though am leaning more towards thiw one, would you say it's worth the extra money?
Were you able to get the DDR5 ram working at full capacity? I'm about to build a pc with this mobo and DDR5 ram. I'm hoping I won't run into too many problems lol
@@hevz6339 I am contemplating the same options, which one did you ended up going with?
I just got one. Bios is still buggy for me, updated and all but getting the weird layout and chinese stuff
@@CRJ08 did it ever get fixed?
Just order the MSI MPG Edge WIFI DDR4 WIFI with the 12700k! All your videos are so great, full of energy and info!😎
Thanks for the review
Keep up the good work brother
by far the best review. You are the real king. Pcie bandwidth and sharing is very well explained.
I was glad to hear you speak of the BIOS. I had the Z590 Gaming Carbon Wifi but stopped using it after less than two weeks. The BIOS was the reason, it would freeze whenever I changed a value (even just setting fans to PWM!). Then tech support was useless and after three emails they just stopped replying. I expected better from one of the top 3 motherboard manufacturers. Plus, I'm tired of that damned dragon logo making every product uber tacky.
Thank you for this very detailed, and 100% honest review. Most Mobo "reviews" barely even mention the BIOS and just start counting the different headers...Whatever motherboard I finally decide on getting, your review will be the one I base my decision on. Merci fieu!
Thanks for the kind words.
MSI is not happy about this video..... I can tell u that much :(
@@Laurentschoice I thought your review was rather positive to be honest. The board itself is pretty darn good. The only bad parts were the BIOS (which they can and should fix!) and the RGB (why is a high end Mobo without RBG considered a feature nowadays?). I was rather looking at the Carbon, but I don't understand why it's 50€ more expensive than the Force. (not going to commit yet though, gotto wait for DDR5 to become available first)
Quick question,
Are you able to wake and get into sleep mode with this motherboard?
Funny... LOL ...I like your delivery on this video, very humorous 😄
Is the bios on this motherboard still buggy?
Hi Laurent. love ur videos. sir, do u think this board can be used with a 13a gen CPU ''I5-13600k''?
absolutely
This is the version that you used in the video 7D30vA1 ?
Bios 7D30vA1
So ROG strix z690 F you review before is better and cheaper board?
Thank you for this review! Here it is, i was looking for this mobo, im building a white lian li pc, i have all my component so far, i miss only the mobo and ram to start building, do you know if the bios is updated to a fonctionnal version yet? And if not, do you have a suggestion for me, im looking for a white mobo lga1700 compatible with ddr5... thank you so much! Im looking for the best and budget is not a problem, for sure, before buying a maximus mobo, near 1000$ ill need a really strong argument hehe!!
the BIOS has been fixed
Is the bios Va14 ? Believe that's the latest one
Best parts reviewer I’ve seen. I appreciate the dedication. Also hope to see another complete build soon.
The best!
lol ok
Where is the battery ?
I love your videos and how you explain and show the details in your videos, very great job. i am not sure if you can help me but i am lost. i don't know if i should buy a system with this motherboard and a i7 oder if i should go in the direction of ddr4 with my i7 and with the AsusStrixZ690,,, oh man, why is everything so complicated. i hope you can give me a feedback.
Do you have anything for sale?
Hey, thanks for the video. Does anyone know if the bios ever got fixed?
funny I was thinking the same thing
@@xwingman72 i missed out on the sale anyhow.. bummed out
Hi mr sorry for late questions
I got 12900k which motherboard should I buy msi z690 force or msi z690 edge? Thanks 👍
If you buy any of them, there both good, go watch Common PC Building Mistakes that Beginners Make
Go watch Jayztwocents mate, reviews like this are overkill
@Laurent's Choice What motherboard would you recommend for LGA1700 between 200-300$, cpu Intel i5 12600k and Intel i7 12700k. Any suggestion ?
hmm.. short budgetr for a Z690... what CPU u got in mind?

I’ve been driving my self crazy trying to find a 2 pin temp sensor on this thing😅 would you be able to confirm if it does or doesn’t?
hey sorry to spam this video but do you have these bios issues with it?
My chipset is high 70s idle with populated m2 drives though
Good video, by any chance, have you found the CMOS battery for this board?
you know what.. no i did not... interesting!
@Honcho did u find it?? 😁😁
@@deus5185 I did not, which is very; confusing? Lol
@@HonchoYT maybe it is vertical, at minute 20:31 , look at the Audio Ports there is a red/black wire connected to something like a vertical battery , maybe this could be 🤔
Nice
Great one, but I am Still waiting for the b550m mortar wifi review! Please bring it
Which mb better ddr5 z690 edge or force?
You're only getting 10% with ddr5, dd4 is still good
Is the Carbon WiFi basically the same board?
Identical
I have been making these same type of videos on here...just not to the quality that you are. You are definitely going somewhere with this channel, keep up the great work!
No issues with my Carbon WIFI, so I can either assume it has better BIOS support or by now the latest versions for both have resolved the problems.
Thank you for sharing!
Im currently also using the z690 carbon i didnt have any troubles in bois
Thanks for this.. I feel like an idiot now for telling people to avoid this board.. is this a genuine comment though?.. lol
@@bryanvella6534 I didn't keep the Carbon, but not because of any issues with it. I wanted the Unify.
@@sabishiihito so thats 3 people without this issues, except on the carbon... man i want this board so bad but it would be such a pain if i cant access bios settings on an unlocked chipset
So far, the only negative that I see in it is the plastic cover over the radiators, did I miss something?
this is an amazing review! I ordered one a few days ago, i hope the bios has been fixed!
hi sir. was the BIOS fixed? I am thinking on this board but the BIOS problem mmm should I take this??
@@deus5185 yep, no probs now
@@vangoghoff5521 👍🏻👍🏻thank u
I wouldn't even consider it given that bios. Let us know when they fix it.
this is the same as the carbon? dam I think I get the gigabyte arous pro
It is the same. Just a different color. I got the carbon. I wish I would have got the Asus Maximus Hero 😑🤨
@@Kingtoby1981 I got the Carbon too, wishing I got the Hero as well. Though I think it only supports 3 M.2 NVMe. Or maybe that's the Strix-F. Can't remember. Either way, my new build is going to be a PITA. Only DDR5 I could find for a decent price was XPG Lancer... and I hear it has to be manually timed to hit it's 5200MHz speed. I hate this stupid shortage and settling for half decent products. I have a 9900K + 2080 Ti build... half tempted just to scrap this entire 12900K build and wait.
@@decibal7532 It has 5 m.2 storage but the additional 2 storage drives you need to use the hyper M.2 expansion card that comes with it. I also like the Q release button for the GPU and M.2 Drives that makes it so much easier and convenient to swap new GPUs and M.2 Drives. I actually might take everything apart and return the carbon since I only had this motherboard for around 20 days. The manufacturer and company I bought it from has a 30 day return window. Don't get me wrong I like the Carbon but there's a few other features I like more on the Hero. I'm trying to keep this new build for the next 5 to 7 years before I build a new one and I just feel like the hero is more future proof. I feel like MSI rushed the Carbon and Force imo. But for the price the Carbon is a good card. I think it's a good idea to wait for all of the prices to go down for DDR5 unless you can afford it. The price of DDR5 ram memory is ridiculous. One thing I am curious about, who's going to use more than 3 M.2 Drives? You can put in two m.2 drives with a capacity of 4 TB on each with a total of 8 TB and then you can put a third in and you would have 12TB
I wanna buy this for white theme but i will consider asus white one
Despite the cons of this motherboard I went ahead an bought it for 320 on sale, loved this review thank you for the thorough review!
Does it have any problems? Do u still recommend it ?

Tired of waiting for your MSI ACE x570s MAX review. Got the MB:
5900X / 32GB G.Skill / 6900XT. MB is (knock on wood) basically solid.
EXCEPT I couldn't get the OS to recognize the onboard RAID config (no matter what order loading the drivers at OS build, even correct order).
Overall the complexity of a MB RAID setup is stupid and thus I gave up.
Other than that, the MB is really nice and doing a nice job (Oh, I reseated TG paste on the chipset chip for good measure).
Ohhh not bad
Watch him now come out with a review on my board dissing it. A French Canadian move? 🙃😛
