Love that color! It looks great with the color on your walls. I have the same cabinets in our house and have wanted to paint them since the day we bought the house. I've been checking out the DB paints, finishes and brushes but didn't see them used in a Bathroom until now. Southeast Florida is very humid and wet at times so I need a paint and finish that can hold up in our type of weather. Thanks for all the info and tips. Have a great day. 🌴😎💙😎🌴
Thank you! I love it too - this was the perfect color with the blue walls, it's such a rich beautiful neutral! I do think this method would be fine with your humidity. You could do a second coat of the Gator Hide to really give it a layer of protection. When I painted my bathroom tiles (tutorial soon) I used 2 coats of Gator Hide and it's protected from all the water!!
Roots & Wings Furniture & Home what color are the walls?
Hello... I’m just wondering where can I buy general finish paint?
shannon lancaster what do you recommend for the bathroom and kitchen walls ? I did mine a year ago and it has chipped . Is it because I didn’t prime ? I was told I didn’t need to because the paint was prime and paint at once
I'm going to be painting the vanities in 2 of my bathrooms and was going to use regular paint but this is much easier. I watched your other video yesterday but glad I saw this one today. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm headed over to chk out some Dixie belle colors 😉
Loved this video! It inspired me to buy Dixie Belle paint and paint the vanity in our bathroom. It looks amazing and I’m in love with the color, Mason Dixie Grey. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your advice and demonstration! I am currently re-doing the cabinets in my kitchen during the Stay at Home order, but I am not confident enough to take on such a huge project. Your advice to start in the bathroom for the practice is perfect! **clicked LIKE and SUBSCRIBE**
I'm purchasing that paint today and will be doing this during my days at home. Thank you beautiful job
Oh good! This will be a great project for you.
Wow, what a big difference looks great!
Thank you! It's amazing what paint can do!!
Beautiful transformation!!
i love it. might do the same to my ugly bathroom cabinet too. I like how you explain the steps and why it is important.
I've subscribed. Your delivery is very calming!
Damn girl, you painted that cabinet in no time - it looks great!
I added peel and stick floor tiles to the inside cabinet bottom and the drawer bottoms. Made them easier to clean. Tip from a UA-cam designer I follow.
That's a great idea!!
I cannot wait to do this to my vanity. I love your videos.
Awesome, informative video. I'm ready to paint the same type and colored cabinet in my bathroom. Thank you!
Omg what a great job you did, loved it👍🏻
love how easy you made this look. I'm going to buy this paint in black. thank you!!
That will be gorgeous! Good luck on your project!
Look so good can’t wait to paint my bathroom
You are such a sweetheart! I will be doing this tomorrow Thankyou !
OMGOSH!! This is exactly what I was looking for!! Nice job. Can’t wait to start my bathrooms!!!
I hope this works for you, I've been so happy with the result!
Well you were a very good instructor lol. Some of these videos on YT are lengthy and confuse the heck out of me!!! I feel motivated to do this by myself without my husband's help. Thanks for sharing.
Perfect!! That's exactly my goal! 💖
just ordered the paint can’t wait
Love the color!!! Seems...easy... I'll try this. Thank you...🌺
Thank you for watching!
Good tutorial and most people like the new vanity. I, however, never would have painted over that beautiful vanity! I don't care what is trendy. I prefer the before pictures.
It's like you have a brand new vanity. It is beautiful and you didn't have to pay the cost of a new vanity! Great job. The color you chose goes great with the wall color!
I love it! And it really was an easy project! I do love this color against the blue, a perfect mix between gray and brown!! Thanks for watching!
Looks great, just painted our kitchen cabinets
Wow! Lovely job 👌..Vast improvement 🙂
Thank you so much. Yes, I love how this turned out!
Your video is so informative and your results were great 👍
Thank you Dear. Lovey job.💯💯
Just wanted to say your video was the BEST tutorial I've watched. I followed your video to the T. Bought everything you listed. I'm very happy with the way our bathroom cabinets turned out. Thank you so much for the video!!! If you want before and after pics let me know.

Great demo. I can’t wait to do this
Thanks for watching!
this turned out so, so gorgeous. I want to tackle my boy's bathroom cabinet with chalk paint.
After seeing this video my friend send me I just actually bought everything to do mine the color hose perfectly with my black, white and grey wall.will see
God love you luv but after the last 2 months of living in a mess no more painting but it's beautiful now happy day
Thanks so much for the tutorial. Your bathroom layout is the exact same as mine! I have been dragging my feet for so long, but I'm inspired to paint the whole bathroom and to include the vanity.
Yes, it helps so much when you see a similar layout! Painting the vanity made such a difference! You can do it!
Looks great! That is some high-quality paint. I'd also consider spray-painting the hinges with rustoleum in a similar color to the new hardware. That'd look sleek!
Yes, that's a great idea!
Looks very pretty. 👍🥰
Thank you!
Your Chalk color was very nice 👍
Thank you, I'm very happy with this color!
wow super cute
Love this! I have everything to get started on my vanity. I want my walls the same color blue. What color are they? Thanks!
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for the tutorial!!! Your vanity looks exactly like mine, color and damage level. I get eye sore every time I go to the bathroom and look right at it. I have been wanting to change the color but don't have the budget to hire someone to do it for me. It is such a life changing video! I am so excited to go to hardware store tomorrow to get the stuff ready
How exciting! I think you will be amazed at what a little paint will do, I love how mine came out, and it has held up so well!! Enjoy your project!
Wow‼️ That looks great & you hardly used any paint‼️👍🏻
Yes, a cheap and quick update - those are my favorites ;)
ALL paint projects require prep and ALL pieces require a top coat, regardless of the claims the manufacturers make. This goes for Dixie Bell, Fusion (mineral paint), Annie Sloan, etc. That being said, Dixie Bell makes a great product and you did an amazing job on your cabinet. You make it look too easy! 🙂
Yes, I agree! Absolutely! Skipping the prep is where people get in trouble!
This is GREAT stuff! My wife and I love home improvement things. Great channel!
Thanks so much for watching!!
Great video. Makes me want to paint my restroom cabinets
You should! It makes a huge difference, and isn't a huge undertaking!
Roots & Wings Furniture & Home awesome 👏 thank you. I’m gonna subscribe to your channel
Great job! We purchased all of the recommended products (just a different shade of paint color) but we’re not sure that our cabinets are real wood. They’re the typical builder honey oak cabinets but they have a sheen to them. Would you recommend still following the same process? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Omg I love it !!!!!!
Thank you so much!
Good job it looks great but I have a question can you please tell me the name of the color I want to paint my cabinet the same color and how many FL OZ and also te top coat is it glossy or just gloss thank you.
so i finally used this color would i be able to use rustoleum top coat to seal this color or do you prefer something else it’s definitely starting to peel
Hi I am chalk painting my vanity. Got the 2 coats on. Do I need to add the wax (paste) the krypton chalky finish antiquing wax (for my antique look) next? Can I do the wax same day? Or do I have to wait?
Beautiful job. Would U suggest using same colour for kitchen cabinet too?
Hi I have a new home with lights oak cabinets. Wife wants to paint them. Do I need to sand them? I really think just the door is wood rest press wood . Any suggestions?
Thanks
Pete
That’s amazing what color of blue is that ? Wow looks amazing !!!!!!!
I am looking for a video like this, That gets to the point, not through a whole speech.
Did you find it yet?
HI! love this! how has the paint held up?
Eva
Beautiful transformation! What color is your vanity top and toilet? Also, what brand and color is the blue paint on the walls?
I’ve always wanted to paint the cabinets as well! Do you think rustoleum chalked paint will work ask well?
Ordering everything you recommend. I’m going to try this once everything arrives. Looks beautiful. I hope I get the same results :) Thank you for being very detailed.
Forgot to ask. Did you use the same amount of gator hide as the paint? If not, would you say half of the amount of paint? Thanks in advance!
For this project, I'd say I used about the same about of Gator Hide as paint. I hope your project turns out beautifully - YOU CAN DO IT!
I see that a lot of videos show the use of a small, foam roller after you fill in detail with a brush. Is that not recommended for this paint? Thanks!
Thank you! Have you been told you look like Emma Stone!! 😊
She seems like a pro, nice brush strokes and good advise for us DIY'ers.
Hope these are helpful for you!
I just chalk painted my bathroom cabinet the dark gray. I love it! I ended up going over the whole cabinet with fingernail polish, followed bu alcohol to remove the glaze from the varnish. Worked great! My doors were similar to yours and I took a chance an chipped out the middle part that sticks out and added bead board to the middle. Bought a thin bead board panel. Trimmed where the bead board met the frame. Whole new cabinet! I want to chalk paint everything now!
Well aren't you creative! That's a great idea, I bet it looks fantastic!! I know, painting things is so addicting - happy painting!
Jennifer Dahl can you share a pic?
That turned out beautiful!
Thanks so much, I love how it came out!
What is the colour of this paint? Loved this colour, looks so beautiful
Amazing job!! How many ounces of paint did you use?
Can I please get the color and brand you used for this these cabinets?
Did this cabinet have the pressboard faux side? Can you just paint over that with the Dixie Belle chalk paint?
can i get the dixie belle clear top coat or do you prefer gator hide
What kind of paint brushes did you use on these cabinets?
Did you do any prep for the sides of vanity? They are usually not wood but particle board. I experienced the paint not adhering in some spots
Can we use a water based matte poly instead of gator hide?
How long did you wait before adding the top coat?
What color is that? So beautiful grey
What color did you used
Which brush size are you using?
Dark very old bathroom vanity cabinets... what are the Priming steps???
Awesome! So all you needed was that one small jar of paint? Wow!
Just curious what color the walls are.
What is the paint brand name ? And the water proof glosser?
Brilliant look! I've subscribed x
Thank you so much!
How do you clean this - Dixie Bell told me you cannot use any disinfectant cleaners on their paint or clear coats?
Is that leveling paint?
good job! .. you get 3 gold stars :-)
Thanks!
What color is the walls?
the curtain behind you is fantastic! Is it fabric? How can I buy this kind of curtain?
GREAT JOB!...But...ALWAYS stir/mix the paint and sealer, regardless of their thickness. NEVER shake the paint or sealer, as that will cause a real problem, creating bubbles in the paint and/or sealer. ALWAYS apply two or more coats of paint, and depending on the paint's ability to thoroughly cover the surface, three or more coats may be needed. ALWAYS paint all edges of the cabinets door opening(s), as I saw the upper "lips" of your cabinet door openings were not painted, with your leaving a visable, unpainted "raw edge". As a rule, always lightly go over the coats of paint and sealer with 0000 steel wool, using a tack cloth to clean off all residue prior to applying the additional coats of paint and/or sealer. In doing the aforementioned, chances are far greater that you will have a LASTING and BEAUTIFUL end product that you will love.
Where you buy the steel wool from
What a difference! It looks great! I’ve been itching to paint my 1990 oak builder-grade cabinets since we moved into our house two years ago... May I ask what the cost was for this project?
I would estimate this project to be about $40! You'll have a little paint left over for other projects too ;)
So you don’t need primer for this?
Great job, looks professionally done, although I would paint spray the hinges too
Yes, you certainly could do that as well!
Why is mine leaving streaks?
❤️it!
Thank you! So do I!
Thanks for the video. It's very helpful. My bathroom vanity has the same colors as yours (white counter top, oak doors). However, my wall is bright taupe. Do you think the cabinet will look great with that gray color? If not, do you have a suggestion for a good cabinet color?
I do think this color would be good against a taupe, it has a warm undertone to me. Other options would be a navy, or even staining the wood darker like I did here: rootsandwingsfurniture.com/blog/restainingcabinets/
To use the chalk paint has to be used on real wood or it can be done on plastic cheap wood? Older mobile homes don’t come with real wood cabinets
Hi there!
I just bought white chalk paint to paint my wood cabinet. My question is, would the Gator Top HIdecoat discolour the white? I've been trying to find a good sealant/topcoat and unfortunately I've read that many discolour the white paint and turn it yellowish... if you could please help me with this I'd appreciate it lots!!
Thanks for sharing your video!
It's not so much to topcoat you have to worry about, but the wood tone coming through the paint. If you use stain blocking primer first before the white paint this will protect you from yellowing. Look into this primer (in white): dixiebellepaint.com/b-o-s-s/?aff=177
This is amazing! Best video i've watched as of yet! Quick question, what size paint jar did you buy? Wanted to make sure i get enough for mines. Thanks so much. Great job! Subscribed!.
For a bathroom cabinet a quart should be more than enough
Thank you for watching! I think 16oz should do it!
Yes, if you want some left over for other projects a quart would be plenty!
Why did you pick Dixie Belle over Annie Sloane or another brand of chalk paint
great job but my ocd kicked in a few times
