I watched 2010 ver without knowing that it was a remake and it was my fav movie in my childhood. I watched the original version recently and I loved it too, but I got a lot of memories with the 2010 ver. Plus the original version shows "karate" competition while the remake shows kung-fu, they kept the name just for nostalgia and that's why the fights are intense in the remake. Both the movies are great they can't be compared.

Original will always be the original but why I prefer watching the 2010 ver. is because I think the fight scenes, especially Cheng's, look more brutal and intimidating. And it fits his character more, since his sensei thought him, and his friends, to be merciless against an opponent. So the protagonist had more reason to be scared to fight with them and then to overcome this fear of his. I just get impressed with Cheng's scenes. His stand and his moves were solid and strong. (so to me, it felt more realistic) Cheng was really THAT antagonist till the end of the movie and I like it.

    • @ludicrous23

The more brutal fight scenes is actually one of the reasons I REALLY DISLIKE this movie. I personally think both versions are great, but dang, the 2010 version really did deliver more with its fight scenes! Probably because it features KUNG FU instead of KARATE, but I really love the choreography more for some reason. Dre’s beating in the hands of Cheng definitely seemed way more brutal than Daniel’s beating in the hands of Johnny, IMO. Plus, hot take, but I prefer the tournament fights in this version. IDK, as great as the original’s tournament fights were, they felt a tad rushed to me, whereas this version takes its time, showing us many styles of kung fu and building up suspense if whether or not Dre can actually beat Cheng. And the payoff is more satisfying to me. Seeing Dre imitate the snake lady’s move is cooler than Daniel imitating the pelican kick, to me.

I mean, the quality of his fight scenes (including the one that was deleted by some goddamn people) and Chan’s passion when his character talks about Kung-fu or teaches it to his student give him advantages in this comparison. It’s because Chan was studying Kung-fu for his entire lifetime, he loves it and understands its philosophy. His journey is that he learns to control himself and think more before acting on his impulses. with Kreese as a mentor he could have gone a completely different route. haven't seen the remake yet but it would be interesting to see if these elements are carried over. from your comment, I would suspect they aren't.

Believe that the original core story gonna live forever.
      The Karate Kid (1984)
This is a classic coming of age story. A story about a boy who has to face his fears and moving to a new environment.
The Karate lessons and fighting sequences in this film are incredible. I love the attitude that this movie brings to everyone, that fighting is the last option for any situation, whether it is verbal or physical.
The greatest part is the acting. You simply can't take away from either of the two leads, the chemistry between them is just perfect. Winning the tournament against the bullies is secondary, but the personal development is what comes first.
It remains a beloved nostalgia classic to this day, the career-defining roles for both Macchio and Morita, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. The score for The Karate Kid was by Bill Conti.
      KARATE KID (2010)
Its a remake film of an original american film and doesn't hold up to the originals. With that being said you will never get any sequels of this remake movie. This movie gets crapped on a lot for not being as good as the original.
KARATE KID TRILOGY & Cobra Kai's a great series and live forever in our heart.
It's also hard to ignore that THERE'S NO KARATE. I can’t really get over the fact that they called Karate Kid (2010) a movie about Kung Fu. He learns Kung-Fu from Han.
Are we even going to pretend like the 2010 Karate Kid is anywhere near as good as the Originals or as intense as Cobra Kai?
And yeah i agree with you that the fight scenes in this new movie frankly blow the original ones out of the water. The fighters are faster, more intense and have much more dynamic choreography. May be you got plenty of fightgasms from the remake movie.
Cobra Kai series ia the legacy of Karate Kid Trilogy. A dumb chinese remake film is nothing in front of these greatest storyline.

I love both films. But Mr. Miyagi holds a place deep in my heart. His ability to inspire wisdom with so few words touches the soul. I'll always prefer the original for that.

😆 Jaden's final move you could see his cheesy little wirework kick. To a basic real front kick.

So we going to act like all the amazing fight sequences before that kick wasn't all Jaden.
There is no comparison when it comes to the fight choreography.. Jaden was better.

@lalo 38th I also want to address your incorrect statement. I never claim anything I said was all based on facts, But that of evidence. "we" as in everyone else with the IQ above room temperature saw Jaden do all his own fight sequences.
if you're saying jaden didn't do those... that's a lie.
So he didn't do that amazing high kick? Or that windmill sweep? That standing takedown? And not to mention that awesome training montage he does with Jackie Chan.
All the kicks and punches thrown by Dre in the movie were all Jaden.
Now tell me where (other than that flying kick at the end) In any other fight sequence Jaden is on strings.

reasons why i love the 2010 version way better...
    1. that was the first one i watched
    2. jackie chan
    3. the cast, the bully in the old one just looks big and like a helpless american school bully with daddy issues, but the bully in the 2010 version looks more intimidating evem tho is is short and looks like he likes violence and same goes with the sensei of the bully,in 2010,he just looks scary af
    4. the fight scenes are more brutal and realisitc

Simply no comparison, original karate kid is way better. Showed the way of the teenage life in the 80s. I am a late 80s/ 90s kid and can completely relate to it. The new karate kid (2010) tried to follow the footsteps but no way could match it. Yeah its a decent enough movie.

The remake is 100% so much better than the original. It’s a good movie, and even if it wasn’t, compared to the original, it would still be a greater movie. For one, the first one isn’t even based in China - it’s based in California. And the ONE Asian person happens to know karate?? Like seriously? The remake has so much more emotion and suspense. How can anyone like the original at all

The truth is, there is no two karate Kids, ok, so there is no comparison, that would be stupid, the 1984 feature is a pop culture classic that generated 3 seasons on the netflix series of the covra kai series, the other feature of 2010 should have the name of Kung Fu Kid but the intention was only long would be just to make money by appropriating the name of a classic movie for unseen people to watch, just a copy to be forgotten and thrown in the trash.
