They were in a tough spot because if they changed the name it wouldn't look like a remake, which was huge for the marketing. But yeah, it should be The Kung Fu Kid.
I think it was like that to pay homage to Pat Morita's Karate Kid, as you can really see the characters and storylines being similar and all that Daniel and Dre, moving to another place, Johnny and Cheng, Miyagi and Han, you get the idea
