What makes a gas mask CBRN, NBC or CBA-RCA? Parcil Safety answers the question and more!

Gas masks and respirators can have a lot of different certifications, tests, and ratings. One of the more common ones, CBRN, has a lot of factors that go into it and depending on the regulating body, you need to consider different components when looking to purchase a CBRN gas mask.
For example, in the US under NIOSH regulations, a CBRN gas mask can only be tested bundled with an NBC canister. Under EU standards, EN CE, a gas mask can be tested separately from the filter canister.
Below are some common factors to look at when determining what CBRN gas mask is right for you:
Who is the regulating body the gas mask is tested fpr?
What material are the seals made out of? (Disclaimer: we did say in the video that CBRN features Butyl rubber seals, but some CBRN masks have been tested with silicone)
What's the rating on the the face shield?
What material and number of touch points on the head harness?
Are they tested with a particular filter or by itself?

Can you give me your true opinion on the Israeli gas mask and Israeli supergum nbc ABE1 P3 R gas filters? Are they as good as the cbrn filters or not ?

Hi Patriot Country! So an israel gas mask typically is made out of butyl rubber and can provide good seals, however if it's surplus, just be aware that you need to make sure it's sealing and nothing is breaking down on it. Overtime, both rubber and silicone can degrade.
Supergum actually makes some really good filter canisters, however, the one you mentioned - ABE1 P3 R isn't really NBC. You really should have a REACT component to the filter or at bare minimum A2B2E2K2 P3 R filtration capability.
What you're missing there that is commonly used in many biological and chemical agents is the ammonia filtration capability as well as the concentration capability - i.e. you are looking for that number 2 if you are dealing with something super dangerous.

We basically have three tiers when it comes to our gas mask selection:
- the entry level, affordable option (ST-100X)
- the medium, best value option (NB-100)
- then the premium, most feature packed option (SGE 400/3 BB {soon to be replaced by our new IIR-100 Recon}).
