Thank you for the links!!😊 Also, I think I might finally be ready to try support spindling! Drop spindles have never kept my interest, and I’ve been doing so much on my wheels that I think I’m ready to branch out.
Thanks for all the good info. I have the same bobbin winder and love it too. My question for the next spin and chat: Is it better to spin woolen with a specific fiber prep like dizing from a bat or making rolags? I ask this because I have failed to teach myself to spin woolen using commercial top. I have gotten moments spinning from the fold where I come close. Spinning from the fold seems like it flows awkwardly for me. Dyed fiber seems so clumpy. I prefer natural colors for ease of drafting. Any suggestions? I would invest in a drum carder if it would help. I am aware that certain breeds lend themselves to woolen long draw spinning. Does that make any sense? Good luck with your tour de fleece goal. I bet you make it 😊
Dyed fiber can get a bit felted sometimes which makes it so hard to draft nicely. I did put half of a braid through my drum carder & spin the other half from the braid to see the difference. They both are great yarns, very different though. I’ll share them in the Vlog. Making rolags is definitely another option. Via hand cards or a blending board. We’ll definitely chat about this in the next one. Spinning from the fold took me along time to get comfortable with, support spindles helped get the flow down. My biggest tip is to buy the fiber prep you like to spin. If top isn’t your jam, try roving or some pin drafted roving. It makes it much easier for woolen spinning. That won’t help if you already have a shelf full of top though. So we’ll chat options.
Commenting from quite some time in the future to when this was uploaded; but I'm curious, do you notice much of a difference spinning from hand carded preps vs drum carded preps? Enjoying watching your stuff :)
Thanks so much for answering my question about spinning across the top of a chunk of batt or braid. Also, thank you for explaining that you don't have to spin across the top of chunks of fiber, that stripping the braid or the batt into narrower strips is a perfectly acceptable fiber management strategy. I hope you reach your tdf goal. harpingJanet
Thank you! Stripping the braid will make it so much easier to handle. It will change the color movement through the final yarn. Maybe I’ll chat about that soon in another video.

Yes for support spindles. 🙌🏻 They were so tricky for me at first. I love them so much now. And SO portable.

Have you ever spun a painted cotton top? Or, have you ever had to fluff up cotton that got compacted, and how do you do it?

Not much difference in the final yarn, but a drum carder is much faster than hand cards.

Hey, what kind of wheel do you have?
My wheel is the Spinolution Echo with accelerator ❤️
