    Your handspun.......is......STUNNING! I feel in awe of your spinning. I am immensely inspired by your color combos. And I appreciate that you embrace all colors and not just one singular genre. Thank you for explaining about the pressed flowers..... I am going to do that myself when I get to that project 👍🏼question soat I can understand you correctly...... you keep saying "we", so do you have a partner that does all of these gorgeous creations with you? Or is "we" in reference to yourself? I would like to represent you correctly. Thank you for every single video! Blessings!

    Wow! So much to comment on. One, I think your pressed flowers cardigan is awesome. The extra time and thought and energy you put into making the flowers line up and continue to flow really makes a difference. I've seen so many of these projects where the sleeves don't line up with the fronts of the sweater, and I think it just looks tacky. Yours has class! My two cents on the yarn for the Hermione socks: the speckled/light colored yarn will work. You will still see the stitch pattern. The more strongly variegated yarn will hide the stitch pattern. Spinning: I’m not a "pink person" but your yarns would turn me into one. Just gorgeous. And I love your experiments with the combo spins. I’m envisioning them in a fade sweater, if you were going to use them together. Any of them would be fab for colorwork. The blocks for the patchwork sweater are so cool. Your color palette is going to make such a beautiful collection of blocks. Finally, you explain yourself quite well, and I have no trouble following you or your explanations. I wonder if you are a visual thinker who thinks more in images and sensations than in words. Your color sense in your spinning and knitting also makes me think your brain leans in that direction. I definitely think in images and pictures, including sensory images, and sometimes it’s hard to put what I'm thinking into words. I totally relate to the whole “words!” exasperation when the translation just won’t work. There's a very interesting book about visual thinkers and how our gifts aren’t recognized, by Temple Grandin. It helped me accept and appreciate how my brain works. Thanks for a lovely evening filled with your beautiful things! harpingJanet

      Janet this comment means so much!! I am super happy that I took the time to line up the flowers and curious why the designer didn’t give clearer instructions on doing so, it was not super difficult. OK your Sunday sweater is so cute, I want to make one now! And YAS, isn't that green the perfect color for a hat?! For some reason it goes with everything 💚 So THE REPORT: I HAVE noticed an improvement in my ribbing with the short tips! I'm super surprised, but it's just comfier for me to hold and I feel like it's made a big difference (!!!). I even used short tips for the 1x1 body ribbing of my Louvre sweater and could even tell a huge difference there! You should give it a try and let me know what you think! P.S. KFO mohair is totally my favorite commercial mohair...it doesn't bother my skin at all, hope you have the same experience 😊

      This is great news on the ribbing and *almost* tempts me to redo the yoke of the Sunday Sweater. I will be knitting my ribbing with short tips from here in out. && I think a Sunday sweater would fit perfectly into your collection of knits. Using the KFO mohair in the Totally Tessellated socks now and keep stopping to admire and snuggle it to my face. Kind of shocked at the difference of other mohair’s I’ve felt. Grateful for that tip, as I would have never ordered it if you didn’t mention the softness compared to others you’ve used. && Kelly green hats for ever and ever. 💚

    Just found you Kristan. Your channel is what I've been looking for since I started spinning. I love your philosophy about knitting with your spun yarn. I am trying hard to do this, otherwise I will drown in skeins of spun fibre. I was also so thrilled to finally have the calculation for working out grist. I kept doing an approximate measure, but you have given me a more accurate way of working it out. So happy with that. Please stick with your passion and remember that there are lots of us out here who want to spin and knit or crochet with the yarn we make. I'm currently knitting Caitlin Hunter's Alpine Bloom using my handspun along with a commercial yarn. It just makes the whole experience so pleasant when you see your handspun come to life. The way to get rid of your ads is to either stream your computer screen to your tv or watch UA-cam from your browser on your computer. Install an ad blocker on your browser. I used to have that problem. I use all Apple products and Apple TV. There was no way to control the ads. Finally I had enough. UA-cam keeps adding more and more ads and longer ads. Eff that. I installed AdBlocker on my iMac, figured out how to stream the screen of my computer to my tv (basically using your tv as your computer screen) opened UA-cam in safari ( because that is where Adblock is installed) and I’ve never gotten one single ad since.

    The new sweater is gorgeous! I hope it ends up being exactly what you want. Thanks for more info on splitting braids. It's particularly helpful that you differentiate between spinning for spinning's sake, and spinning for a particular purpose, like the colorwork yoke, and how that helps you decide how to split the braid. My big take-away from that part of the discussion is that I need to consider do I want long color repeats or short / shorter color repeats. You are helping me grow from the stage of "Oh, I'm making yarn. What a miracle!" to beginning to consider what characteristics I might want my yarn to have. Thank you! harpingJanet

    I really love your channel. It's so great to see more spinning-focused content! You had a question about hand-painted cotton sliver being sticky and hard to spin. I have encountered this frequently. I learned a helpful trick from @longdrawjames, in one of his videos, and wanted to share it. Put the sliver in a lingerie bag, throw it in the dryer with a damp towel, and run it for 10-15 minutes. This really fluffs up the cotton and makes it much easier to spin. I hope this helps!

    • @stitchedvintage
      @stitchedvintage 11 місяців тому

      Ohhh. This will be a fun chat! So I’ll talk a bit more in depth later. But honestly I would start with a drop spindle & YT videos. No matter the tool, the basics are the same. You’re taking raw material(fiber), drafting and adding twist to then ply and make yarn. Each tool does that a bit different and a bit slower/faster. Drop spindles are such a small investment when compared to wheels. My first purchase was a drop spindle and a few ounces of fiber costing me less than $20 total. You may not LOVE spinning on a drop spindle, but you should be able to gauge whether you like the process to then make a bigger investment. School of Sweet Georgia has some really great classes on spindling I would recommend too. I would also look and see if there are any spinning meetups local to you. Either at a guild or yarn shop. Spinners are usually super friendly and I would have no problem allowing someone to sit at my wheel and give it a go. (Maybe a Turkish spindle, since it creates a plying ball as you spin making plying much simpler) A Turkish spindle + Niddy Noddy is all you need to spin singles, ply and skein to finish.

    Thanks for another reason to rewind before plying. The sample I recently plied gave me much too much practice with spit splicing my single back together. Some of it was due to spinner error, but some was from tugging what was adequately twisted yarn from the bobbin. I now have the bobbing winder like yours, and bobbins, so I will be rewinding from now on. I love your cotton leaf top. It looks cool and flowing and perfect for days when it is too hot to wear clothes. I hope the current new colorwork sweater wip ends up blocking so that you like the fit better. It’s so frustrating to really like what a sweater looks like on a model, only to find out that it looks crappy on you. Your mom will be one lucky camper if you give her the Shifty sweater for Christmas. I'm just rambling now, so I'll quit. Thanks for a new episode and helping me become a better spinner! harpingJanet

    All of it is soo goood!!! I have a question about keeping your back healthy when spending many hours spinning. I want to spin more but i find my back gets really sore. Do you have any tips or tricks for healthy posture and avoiding back pain when spinning? ❤

      Finding the right chair helps tremendously. This will vary by person and wheel height. Sitting at the very edge of the seat helps me with keeping good posture. Getting up and stretching throughout the spin time helps too.
