    Thank you so much for doing this video, it really cleared me a lot of doubts I had about working for DCL, I'm actually waiting to receive my contract and flying date for being part of Entertainment Cruise Staff and I'm very excited. However there some other questions that Id love to hear what do you knownabout or how does it work:
    - I'll be working as part of the "Cruise Staff", but I haven't found a lot footage of them on UA-cam, what can you tell me about them or their duties and chores??
    -What about the drug tests, when do they it to the staff?
    - Does the debit card where you get paid, can be used almost anywhere in the USA?
    -What is exactly a SIM Card?
    If you can answer me give me some information about this I will be eternally thankful for clearing up my mind. This is my first experience working for a Cruise and for Disney and I'd like to arrive as much prepared as I can be.
    Thank you so much!!!

    • @MirandaRosanne
      @MirandaRosanne  6 років тому +1

      Charlie Arriaga Cruise Staff is a fun role!! They get people excited about being on the ship. They run some events like the sailing away party, fireworks. There is dancing involved, so that’s great!
      Drug tests happen in your first week on board. You will go to medical with your training group and do it there.
      The debit card works anywhere that MasterCard is accepted which is pretty much everywhere in the US.
      A SIM card is how your phone gets internet, and you can buy one from other places so you can use their cell phone service.

      "Thank you for doing these videos, as there isnt many out there! just wanting to know what you should pack for your stay, also about the contract, i know you work for certain amount of months, but how much time off do you get before you have to start your next contract?"
      Thank you for watching!! I actually have a video showing what I packed, ua-cam.com/video/4Pbe9Mka1dg/v-deo.html
      I took this video before I got on board, as you will see, so I just want to mention that I wished I packed more pants and a different more casual pair of close toed shoes. I ended up buying a pair of slip on sort of shoes because you will need them during training and every day after 6:00 PM because you have to be in "evening attire." Which is either a dress or long pants and close toed shoes.
      As far as your vacation, you will get 6-8 weeks before you have to return to the boat. So you are between 4 to 8 months on, 1.5 - 2 months off.

    When you’re off duty, are you allowed to enjoy the guest amenities as well? Or what are the rules on being in guest areas during break?I’ve been on cruises before and pretty sure I have seen crew members (off duty) in line on deck 11 for food with guests and stuff!
    Also, I saw your reasons for quitting, but did you actually enjoy the job itself? What were the best and worst parts? I want to be prepared for everything haha

      ekim andersom it depends on the cruise. Most cruises the food is the same so you don’t have to pay unless it’s an actual restraunt. And some ppl think it’s the better option because you get to travel and you don’t have to pay for food or accommodation for 6 months which saves a lot.

      Only special crew members can enjoy this facility, some officers and the management teams, not for the regular crew member. Occasionally the management close one guest area to treat the crew member with parties and good food, but other than that, guest area are forbidden for crew members, even elevators and guest toilet are not allowed to use by us even in emergency lol...

    • @lee8821c
      @lee8821c 2 роки тому

      Hey I used to work also on the Disney Dream, some crew are allowed in certain places in guest areas, however this depends on your job role. I was classed as a peti officer because I worked as a youth counsellor, I was allowed to get a soft drink such as a hot chocolate, coffee or smoothie. I was able to go to the theatre, shop in merchandise, use the adult hot tub and pool. I was also allowed in the clubs but I wasn’t allowed to buy or drink alcohol in guest areas. Some officers can eat in the restaurants, however I wasn’t allowed unless I had signed permission from my manager it also depends on how busy it is. Guests come first so if you go in an area and it’s full with loads of guests I would recommend coming back another time otherwise you’ll probably be asked to leave or wait until everyone has gone. I know housekeeping and other crew weren’t allowed to use guest areas at all but like I said just depends on your role and your rank.

    Hi, Miranda! Thanks for sharing your info! I'm researching about taking a DCL cruise and I'd like to know what sorts of little gifts I can give to kind CMs I encounter. I'm thinking about small 'thank you' cards + $5 tips + a little chocolate. Would that be okay and welcome? Thanks so much!

    • @lee8821c

      You can’t give tips to crew but you can buy chocolates or little gifts but definitely don’t hand money over because you could get them in trouble. I’m not sure about bar or housekeeping though so maybe double check with the cruise company first.

I saw you mentioned that you worked 70+ hours with very few breaks so I was just curious, since I assume the kid’s clubs aren’t open 24/7, what you did in the rest of those hours! (Or maybe they are? Are you allowed to take foods like fruit on board as I’ve heard there isn’t much. Also so they have vegetarian or vegan food? Can you audition to become a character like a princess straight away or do you have to do customer service based jobs before?

    • @MirandaRosanne
      @MirandaRosanne  4 роки тому +1

      You can audition to be a performer before applying or embarking! I believe there are audition opportunities once you are on board as well but they are more for entertainment host which is a job where you host shows in the kids club, not as a character. Go to the Disney auditions website and you’ll see opportunities for cruise line and where the auditions are located! I know that performers do a shore training that is in Toronto before they go on board.
      Yes they have vegetarian options but honestly I’m not sure what they are. You are not allowed to bring fruits on board and you can only have 1 piece of fruit in your room from the mess and you are supposed to eat it within a day or so. Hope this helps!! Thanks for watching.

    I have a slightly more complicated question that if you can't reply to publicly, let me know :)
    Leaving. I believe there is a 30 day notice period to serve if you want to leave, though you can go anytime I assume. And a restricted re-hire period of 6 months. And you have to pay and arrange your return travel from port to airport and flight home.
    Is that all pretry much correct? Can you remember much about this?
    Many thanks again! I've got quite a task to undertake in helping someone on board at the moment so any help/thoughts makes a huge difference for the best! :)

    How does it work for the youth staff? Do you get to choose/change the age group you work with? I would imagine that the age group you're with would completely change the experience you have... (teen counsellors would probably have it better no?)

      I wish we got to choose the age group! Most people start in the general kids club which is ages 3 to 11 (if I remember correctly). It does depend on experience whether or not you move around to the clubs with the older kids. Yes, in my opinion the older group is more enjoyable, but some people don’t prefer them at all!

And some people choose not to get off the boat, so there are still shows and activities and food happening on the boat all day long, even in port. If you do have some free time, though, there is a crew only area on the island where employees can lounge and eat.
