  • Hello everyone! I'm back to answer one of my most asked questions about Disney Cruise Line... what on earth are you supposed to pack for living an x/ y/ x amount of months on a cruise ship? I hope this video helps you and your packing dilemma in some kind of way! I know I could've used all the help I could get when I was packing for my first contract, haha!

    Thank you sm for this vid; I've been looking for a more comprehensive list of things to pack, because, I too, am a dreadful over-packer. Leaving for the Disney Fantasy in eight days! Thanks Harriet! Stay Magical ;)

    Hi Harriet, love your videos I'm also from Wales & joining the Fantasy on 9th July. Just wondering what sim card did you get for the different places the fantasy visits? This video has helped so much as I pack ☺️

      Omg congrats! Another fellow welshie joining the fleet, and on the best ship might I add (I may be biased haha). I get my phone through EE and they had a contract add on called Max Plan that made it so my phone worked in specific countries as if it where they UK so I picked up service and data in America, Mexico and American ports like San Juan and the US Virgin Islands. Don’t know if that’s an option for you and your phone provider?

      I know this is probably a bit late but though I'd mention it anyways... there is another option which may help is something called 'Google-Fi' which is like a global sim card. You'll get signal for calls and texts whilst in port as well as mobile data! It doesn't work everywhere but based on previous fantasy itineraries it should work for everywhere you'll dock. It doesn't work whilst at sea though 🫤

    Hey! So I’ve got a job and I should be starting in May. What bags do you recommend taking/ how many are you allowed. Would you recommend a suitcase or a duffel bag (large one)

    • @perksofharriet
      @perksofharriet  2 роки тому +1

      Congratulations! How exciting for you! You’re allowed two pieces of checked luggage that Disney pays for to go on the plane. So for me I brought one large suitcase and a smaller hand luggage case. A soft shell suitcase would probably be best! Good luck hope everything goes well for you x

    Thank you for the video , I’m from Ireland so I’m really glad you live not too far sorry for all the questions but
    1.how did you go about getting a visa for the cruise line? As I’m not sure how many contracts I’d like to do but I’m hoping to apply in 2 years when I finish my course. And it says online for a youth activities counsellor I need 3 seasons of day or overnight camp with kids and 1 year of working in a fast paced resort, school care etc is that something that you can’t get the job without.
    2.Can I stay in the US on my vacations after contracts
    3.is there a shop you can get snacks or do you have to buy 4 months worth of snacks before you embark
    4. With really no days off how do you get time to go and explore the ports you visit

    • @perksofharriet
      @perksofharriet  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there Emma, no worries I don't mind questions at all!
      For your visa question: Your visa lasts quite a long time actually (the same length of time as a passport so 10 years) so you don't need to worry about it running out during contracts or vacations etc.
      For your question about youth activities experience for applying: a lot of people on the ship in that role do have those kinds of past work experiences and some don't ( I didn't!) so I really think that's a very loose requirement that they ask of and even if you don't have those experiences if you come across as the right fit for the job and for the company I think they'd still hire you anyway!
      For your question about staying in the US after your contract: you would have to get an ESTA visa to be able to do that as the Visa you get for the ship is only valid for when you are onboard really. You'd have to put in a request to say that you'll be spending time in America following your contract because there's a whole process they go through on the day before you debark so that you change over from the crew manifest to the guest manifest so you're then legally allowed to stay in the US (if that makes sense??)
      For your crew shop question: yes there is a shop backstage that sells snacks, drinks, some toiletries and other every day basic things you may run out of and not think to buy or replace. You can also go to a superstore on land or order items to the ship you might need from online too!
      For your days off/time in port question: sometimes depending on what your start time is or if you have a long break during your shift you can utilise that time to spend off in ports and spend a good few hours there. Like if you start at like 3/4 in the afternoon you would get up early, head off and do something in whatever port and then head back before your shift. Same goes for a long break (or even an hour or so sometimes tbh). You get pretty good at knowing how long you have to do certain things in port and how much time you need to take before being back onboard (bare in mind though that crew all aboard is earlier than guest all aboard).
      Hope that helps, and good luck for when you decide to apply :)
