I worked my first cruise contract last year. Met so many amazing people and even fell in love. Everything you said in this video is SO REAL. I have an interview next week with DCL. Nervous about going back to ship life but it REALLY is a crazy experience in the best ways
ALSO I TOTALLY RELATE to the not wanting to run to the aft of the shift for the meal during a quick break. Especially when I did cruise staff work and it’s like…. I’m not trying to host this game show bloated 😂
I was wondering when your contract is done is there a specific amount of time you have to wait before you can get another contract and does it have to be with the same cruise line
@@Phoebe-vv2gd it varies. Sometimes it depends on what your exit review says. I chose not to go back to my last ship when I was done, but they knew that.
You just showed up in my feed!! I LOVE that you got to work the Dream. I was actually the very first person in the world to go back onboard after we commissioned it in Germany when we mounted “Believe”. We got to live on board while it was being finished in Bremerhaven. SO many wonderful memories :-) lol… From the pictures, I’m guessing that you’re friends with my boss. Keep up the wonderful work!
Oh wow! Thank you for sharing that - so cool! I love the Dream because it was my very first ship. I love working with Mickey and all his friends. Such a special time I'll cherish forever!
Few questions. 1. Contracts. Once you have a contract and it ends , how soon can your next contract start? Would it be another Disney ship or can it be any other ship like Royal Caribbean or Virgin Atlantic? 2. Besides clothes, what else would you need to bring, like bedding, towels, specialty soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent that someone might use and may not be available on the ship or anything else not limited to this list. 3. Ordering items like more clothes, electronics and other items not available on the ships. If you can’t get off the ship? How does it get to you? Other mail like letters?
Hi Geri great to see your videos again. I totally agree with everything you mentioned. Some of my most precious memories are from working on DCL. Enjoy your next contract and hug Ben if you are together 😂
Awww hiii Pam!!!! Yes it's definitely a special job we get to do! Ben is headed to Australia with the Disney Wonder but I'm so happy I got to see him in the UK this summer!
Hi Geri!! Not me crying about all the goodbyes when someone's contract is ending. Or when OURS does.🥺 Happy to come across your videos, and hope to see you on a contract or on land in the future!💗
Watching this video was SO helpful and very informative to watch. Thank you so much for being so honest! I have my DCL interview this week and am nervous but prepared. Do you know if photographers get the same incentives as the entertainment staff? I have researched a lot about DCL photographers but there's not a whole lot out there. Much love
Sorry for the late reply! My fiancé is a photographer so I do know a lot about that department. I hope your interview went well. Feel free to message me on instagram!
Hello Geri! I applied for DCL and went through all the process and now just waiting for my starting date. My question is how big should my suitcase be, or how many is it recommended to take depending on the space of the cabin? Thank you!
Hi. Thank you for sharing this. I definitely believe the experience for an entertainer is a lot better on an oceanic cruise line rather than a river one. I'm from Europe and just got an offer for a river cruise as an Entertainment host, however river boats are really tiny, space is even more crammed than on an oceanic one for staff, and a lot more noise at night due to the ship passing through locks. Even guests cannot sleep. Team is too small to make friends within your department. And at least in my case the company that operates the cruise lines has some of the worst reviews I ever read (for ex, people showing up for breakfast and being gone by lunch...they quit the same day they arrive due to poor management and apparently food being inedible). Long story short, always also check the reviews for Any company that makes you an offer and stick to oceanic cruises.
Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Yeah, I definitely can't speak for river cruises or other cruise lines. I've only worked for one company! Best of luck to you in the future!
@@LittleGeri thank you; honestly I stuck to entertainment in resorts on land, I find it more humane ...food at the guests restaurant and single room are much better than what a cruise line can offer to entertainers...less money...but at least I feel like a human being
Was it really really difficult to find any wifi and time to speak to family/friends? I call my friends every single day and I get so anxious about not having that anymore haha
I usually dont watch long videos but this one was well detailed. One thing you right about is getting in for the first time its so difficult but once you in its easier. I got an offer letter in December for carnival cruise line and did all my paper work in March, did my ENG1 medicals in August and now all im waiting is a date to join the ship. How long does it usually take to be get an assignment after youve sent all required documents?
Thanks for watching! Wow, congrats - I wish you all the best! It sounds like every cruise line has a different process in place and it can vary for everyone in terms of how long it takes to get your contract and flight details. I'd recommend getting in contact with your recruiter or the hiring person you've been in contact with and kindly requesting if they could give you a timeline or if there are any openings soon. Best of luck!!!☀️💙
Hey! I really want to work on a Disney cruise ship during my gap year, I do Drama A-Level and have experience acting but I'm worried because I will only be 18/19 I won't get hired? Do you have any tips!! :)))
DCL hires a lot of young performers because it can be a job that requires a lot of stamina. Get as much acting and dance experience as you can! And keep auditioning! You learn so much from auditions. Break a leg!
Everyone's process is different and varies depending on where you're from, your position onboard and all sorts of visa processes. So it's hard to say! For me, from the audition to receiving my contract was 3 months.
idk was just digging your personality and how much joy being around ppl brings you and performing. :) ♥ I don't know very many Aquarians, and just thought what they'd be like. (: My husband & I are about to go on our very 1st cruise EVER on DCL Wish tomorrow!!! [10/20/23] to the Bahamas & CAC! We're very excited for this adventure! @@LittleGeri

Just like international air crew..we may see a crew member once or more a year..14 day trips we become close
