@eddezz same here, I had to repaste my 6900xtxh chip though, 40 degree delta, now it's 12-20. I also washermodded it. Memory is unstable anything past 2150 mhz.
Both of these cards can be found for weirdly cheap in my area. I’ve seen 6900xts dip down into the low $400s range a couple times. Making it an amazing medium budget card. On the used market there seems to be a heavy Nvidia tax for newer cards though, making them almost unviable on a tighter budget.
I bought a reference 6950XT a few months ago for $505 shipped from eBay. Mainly because it has a type c video out for my oculus 2 and I had a HD6950 back in 2011. It's been a good card, played more Diablo 4 than VR gaming but it handles 3440x1440 with everything cranked pretty high around 130-140 fps. My brain still explodes looking at it and thinking back to D1 graphics.
When I had seen all the reviews about the 3080ti, I put it out of my mind and didn't think I'd get an Ampere series card at MSRP. As Cyberpunk, Metro Exodus and RE 3 Remake taxed my poor GTX 970, it was time for an upgrade. I visited Microcenter and ended up picking an EVGA 3080ti open box on extra sale for 3080 MSRP + tax. That was honestly the best decision and I don't regret it. There were 6900 XTs as well and as much as I would have enjoyed the extra VRAM, I think the DLSS benefit has been fantastic.
Still rocking my 3080ti which I bought 2nd hand for $600 last 2022 just when the pandemic was ending. I haven't found any game that can make this card struggle or dip below 60 fps at 1440p so I wont be upgrading this bad boy anytime soon.
I kind of expected this...yet there is something I find bizarre here: Playstation ports, designed for RDNA2, run poorer on RDNA2 than a "foreign" architecture, while for almost any other game, it's the opposite.
@@JEdVcM that baffles me to this day. the very reason there was no 5800XT or anything beyond 5700XT in it's hayday is the PS5 and Xbox Series APU that swooped the production partially. but also PlayStation's OS is completely different than Windows so that's probably why. intentionally, unintentionally? who can say with 100% certainty which is it. maybe the rework studios are to blame for it. because more often than not it's not the same publisher that made the port as the OG game.

After 2 founder 3080Tis failing on me, going through the RMA, Nvidia admitting manufacture defect with cheap MLC capacitors, and then only offering me a _partial refund,_ I ditched Nvidia and snagged a 6950XT in summer of 2022 and have been loving AMD since. Ray Tracing is entirely useless in gaming still, as it's still in its infancy, and will be for at least 5 more years. So RT performance disparity between Nvidia and AMD ignored, AMD is far greater cost-to-performance; and for those gamers switching en-mas to Linux, Driver support is still years ahead of Nvidia.

What this video has shown me is that almost every game that I want to play is from before 2023 or a good port of a pre-2023 console release. Nvidia's biggest problem might be that fewer people want to play the latest AAA output (see especially the last two big Star Wars games)

Forget about RT. I have a 3070, and I have never used RT in any game while I can, but DLSS is a game-changer. FSR is much worse, so you can't compare both in the same line. To be honest. I dont think games will be created without FSR or DLSS anymore. All big games are using it. Microssoft announced a Direct-X update Upscaling/frame Gen being easy to add on games. This thing about "raw performance" makes no sense in my mind. Ray Tracing is just another slider on game menu, and people who buy new cards dont want to turn things off. Something I think could be better for the RX 6900 XT than for the RTX 3080 ti is the extra VRAM. Hardware Unboxed already published a video today talking about 12GB limiting GPUs in Star Wars outlaw. Means that the 6900 XT would give a better experience there
Firstly, HuB talked about Ultra RT settings. 6900 XT is not fast enough to run Outlaws at 1440p/Ultra RT. And at lower settings VRAM is less of an issue. Secondly, they tested day one version of the game (v1.0.2). Yesterday the first patch (v1.1.1) was released and VRAM management has already been improved. So texture pop-in on cards with 12GB of VRAM was significantly reduced.
@@stangamer1151 "The game will reduce visual quality automatically on those GPUs even at moderate resolutions like 1440p" that was on the 4070 Super, that is around the same performance as the 6900 XT The game will choose a higher texture quality depending on your VRAM. And that will not cause any performance decrease as long as it doesn't go above the VRAM. (source: Why VRAM Is So Important For Gaming: 4GB vs. 8GB - Hardware Unboxed) Means even if you don't run on ultra RT settings, the extra VRAM will be something good for you. As an example, I wasn't able to play a RX 480 8GB in Horizon Forbidden west on lowest setting with 51FPS Average and 39FPS 1% Low. When I put High Textures in it the visual quality improved by a lot, especially while looking at the ground and I got 52FPS Average and 39FPS 1% Low. That all just because I had more VRAM. Knowing that also means that a GPU with more VRAM will be able to use higher Texture settings, especially in a game where it is automatically decided how high the texture quality will be Good that they updated the pop in already, although I have heard the opposite somewhere in their comments as well. So it is kinda a guess for me on who is right and who is wrong. Or maybe it got changed and both are right in a way, idk But it already shows that 12GB isn't the best, and optimal is 16GB or higher at the moment. Doesn't mean 12GB isn't playable or good, either. Just that it has its drawbacks in visuals because of lower texture quality
Lovely video but I would prefer tests with everything maxed out including RT. Who buys a $1500+ card to play atmospheric single player games at these preset settings (or 1080p)
This video is making me question whether or not I should wait until the RX 8000 series GPUs come out or to take my chances in a 6000 series GPU. I'm working with a budget of roughly $320-370.
Got myself a 3080Ti a couple of weeks ago used for 400 Euros. Sold my 3070 for 270. It was an excellent upgrade until something more serious arrives. I had to upgrade the VRAM, 8GB is really not enough anymore for 1440p.
@@FacialVomitTurtleFights The 3090 is a halo product, meaning the absolute top tier of consumer grade cards. It's priced and has specs more in line with a titan card. The difference is that if someone bought a 3080ti, they could at least pretend that they didn't spend a crap ton.
My daily driver, RX 6900XT is a beast! Can run almost anything at ultra settings. With some workarounds and overclock i can play even Cyberpunk 2077 with pathtracing.
I think another good point of comparison would be power consumption. I have an AMD and Nvidia card from this generation. (RX6800 and RTX3090) And the AMD card draws much less power at same resolution(1440p) with a capped framerate.
I need good advise. I've bought used RTX 3070 for 225$ working and in great condition couple of month ago(because deal was in my city and for best price for the moment). Still no PC for it and I need a job first. In my region I can already find used 3080 - 3080ti for 310$-360$ but I would need to test them before buying. Should I try to sell my 3070 now or keep it? (I have planned to upgrade it like 1 year after PC build to used 4080 or smth)...
You bought a GPU without a computer lined up and no job to provide an income for buying parts? Honestly, just sell the 3070 ASAP while it still has some value, find employment, and save up for new midrange parts next gen with a warranty. You don't have enough money to be gambling on used parts lasting you a while.
This is actually very surprising I do wonder why AMD has a lead from 2018 to 2021 then as soon as it hits 2022 the 3080 ti takes over. Very interesting I wonder if this applies to 2023 and 2024 as well and how they both react to unreal 5 games.
The 6900XT was a beast but unfortunately these days you need a 4090 for some games if you really want to crank the settings. It’s ironic that I got the 6900XT because the game I am playing at the moment works great on my ROG ally or even the 750ti in my HTPC. I’m just not that interested in AAA gaming these days. Unfortunately I realised that after changing my 6700XT for 6900XT a couple of years ago.
Using old drivers for these comparisons doesn't make sense. If someone were to buy either of these cards on the used market, they'd use the latest. As it stands, you're just rehashing the numbers from the year of release with a stronger CPU.
The purpose of The GOAT Project is to pit the best GPUs from each generation against each other in order to decide which is the greatest of all time. If you're looking for more practical buying advice, I've already reviewed the RTX 3080 Ti and RX 6900 XT in 2023 and 2024 games, using the latest drivers at the time those videos were made. I think he's been giving Nvidia an upper hand in this serious, but the fix to that isn't giving AMD the upper hand. The 3080ti is 2 entire GPU's below the best, the 3090ti, while also having not the best AMD GPU the 6950xt. Based on a lot of reviews, and tomshardware GPU hierarchy, the 6950xt and 3090ti are basically tied at 1440p.
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 Oh I don't agree with that assessment at all. I think that the RX 6800 XT would destroy the RX 6900 XT in this competition. The RX 6900 XT is about 8% faster than the 6800 XT but 54% more expensive. The RX 6800 XT is the card that he should have used. Incidentally, it would've been appropriate because there were two cards above the RX 6800 XT just like there were two cards above the RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 3090 and RTX 4090 Ti were the top GeForce cards while the RX 6900 XT and RX 6950 XT were the top Radeons.
In fact, I would go so far as to say that the RX 6800 XT is the ONLY card that is a worthy opponent for the GTX 1080 Ti. Its performance and value are just incredible.
@@AvroBellow how about the rx 6800 xt and rtx 3080 if both were same price?
same!
I’m not sure why I’m so interested in these videos, they’re literally just graphs with gameplay in the background every time, yet I still tune into most videos😭
Same, I've been watching iceberg for two years and I have no idea why I'm so interested!
I got my 6900xt for MSRP for 1k.. my buddies got their 3080s for 1700 and 1850 respectively. I never seriously considered an Nvidia card ever again and likely never will. Their price gouging, whether on them or their board integrators is just an insult.
There is no time in history was the 6900xt $1000 and the 3080 was 1700/1850. Your friend must have bought at a different time than when you bought.
@@cozmorules6983 .. lol there's literally a chart showing them being scalped for over 2k in THIS VIDEO. the Radeon could be obtained for either small premium or waiting in line for MSRP which is what I did. The first buddy I'm talking about waited to snipe an EVGA for "only" 500 something over MSRP. That's like .. just a fact. I don't know why you're capping 😭😂
Yeah unless you have F U money or use a gpu for your job or something buying Nvidia makes less and less sense for most people. It's too bad most people just don't consider AMD because of the perception their drivers are bad (they're not now) like it was 6-7 years ago.
Wow your buddies made really questionable purchasing decisions. I just bought a used 6900 XT for 400 and I'm so excited for the performance over my GTX 1070.
Some driver updates do suck and I have a 6950xt. 😂 @@Flyon86 the newest one is pretty solid tho.
This really made me miss my 6900 XT. I don't regret downgrading to a 3060, I needed the money and the lower TDP is nice, but it was so nice to set my games to 4k and high/max presets and not worry about FPS and fine-tuning settings
You could sell that 3060 for $150 and buy a used 6900xt for $250 now. Definitely worth it.
@@Yardo thats a crazy good deal! Where did you see one for that price? Ebay seems to have them for around $400 as far as i can tell (in the US)
@@Shadowauratechno oh sorry I meant $400 hahaha I was saying that it would be a $250 upgrade. Lol
@@Shadowauratechno but clearly worth it. No offense but the 3060 is a trash tier gpu (which you obviously know since you’ve seen the alternative)
@@Yardo ahh gotcha. It would definitely be worth the upgrade but i cant swing spending 250 on tech rn :/ definitely worth keeping in mind for the future tho, maybe in a few more paychecks
Cant wait for the RX 6950 XT and 3090 Ti to be glossed over in the 2022 review since they came out in Early 2022 and were instantly made obsolete by their next-gen counterparts
I don't think he has a 4080 or a 7900xtx. I mean, he has a 7900xt, but I don't think that would be a fair comparison since the xtx started out 200$ cheaper at 1000$. Plus, the 4090 was more popular and performant than the 3090, so it's more arguable for that to be Nvidia's entry.
@@ronchum5178 not the point of my comment at all, but I still agree with you. He didn't do the best GPUs of 2020 review so that he wouldn't have to go out and buy an RTX 3090
Based on Iceberg's criteria, no card from the Ampere / RDNA2 generation even comes close to the RX 6800 XT. The RX 6900 XT was only 7% faster than the RX 6800 XT but was 54% more expensive. In this competition, the RX 6800 XT would be the only card to have a chance against the GTX 1080 Ti.
@@RobloxianX Oh, I think I responded to the wrong comment lol
@@AvroBellowIm late to the conversation but I literally commented the same on scattervolts channel awhile ago about that card. The 6800xt is an anomaly for the 6000series lineup and maybe the 1080ti version of AMD. They won't make another card like that one ever again!
Trade blows or even sometimes beat the newer 7800xt
Totally blows off its old competitor 3080 out of the water
And beats even the 4070 in raster performance on almost all games.
Can even under volt it with no performance loss and can play all games max settings at 1440p and even 4k
3080 Ti enjoyer, here. I got it for $900 at a local retailer open box back when they were going for $1500 online due to AI and covid. I got it specifically for VR an CUDA, and it still absolutely slays for both.
Loved the video, as usual, can’t wait for the finale!
P.S: description still mentions this video as part 4 of the GOAT project, it’s part 5.
Big ups for including Kingdom Come Deliverance! =D
The 6900XTXH still goes nuts even today. 2.5GHz at 1.1 volts does not even hit 60 degrees under air (edge)
Run 2.5Ghz at 1.125v on my normal 6900 XT with the same temps. Also run my memory with 2150mhz and fast timings.
6900XTXH is wild
@eddezz same here, I had to repaste my 6900xtxh chip though, 40 degree delta, now it's 12-20. I also washermodded it. Memory is unstable anything past 2150 mhz.
@@mustangmanx yeah i did the same got some PTM7950 like a 2 weeks after i got the card.
I have the rx6900xt toxic le, runs 2.7ghz and 2150mhz memory at 1.175v, gpu 50c-60c, hotspot 70c-80c, might need repasting to lower temps 😅
Went from a RX 6650 XT to a RX 7900 GRE (literally rx 6900 xt but 7000 features) and the performance was essentially doubled.
this worries me, because my 3070 is double the sons rx6600 and i just grabbed 6900xt on ebay for 200 bucks
Yeah I've seen that too I saw a 6900 xt for 400 bucks on the dot on eBay
Got basically a NIB 6900XT from Microcenter's "open box" list back in December 2021 for $650. Best GPU investment I've made in my entire life so far.
Thank you. I always wondered who used the Type C out. Makes sense.
There were 6900 XTs as well and as much as I would have enjoyed the extra VRAM, I think the DLSS benefit has been fantastic.
what about GOAT mid tier 2021 card? Oh my beloved 6700xt, they could NEVER make me hate you
It's still a great mid-end card
I kinda regret choosing my 3060 ti over the 6700 xt two months ago, but I also do really like the ray tracing performance tbh
i just upgraded from a 6650xt to a 6800xt for £150 it does really well in 1440p
The 6000 series has turned into a used market beast. The 6800xt being particularly worth it
So what i learned is i just need a platform upgrade. Thx 🙏 you so much this video rocked!
Great video, looking forward to the 2080ti ray tracing video as I have a 2080ti but never turn on ray tracing.
Still rocking my 3080ti which I bought 2nd hand for $600 last 2022 just when the pandemic was ending. I haven't found any game that can make this card struggle or dip below 60 fps at 1440p so I wont be upgrading this bad boy anytime soon.
Huh, I would not have expected this outcome one bit. It feels a bit like a reverse bizzaro type universe situation
The only thing I can think of is that infinity cache allowing the 6900 XT to keep its data close to the core and not having to waste time (latency) to render the next frame.
Sittin' happy with my 6650XTs

The glimpse of Joker from dark Knight returns gave me goosebumps

a proud rx6900xt owner.it's been amazing for me and what deal it was. i got for 261$ at that time and i think i snatch gold.(an xfx swft rx6900xt)
the thing i love about my rx 6899 xt is its overclockability. mine can draw over 320 watts and becomes an absoloute beast. Its also just more fun for me to tinker with it instead of the limited tuning you get with with nvidia
This video has shown, at least to me that there's definitely a greater driver overhead cost with the RTX 3080 ti over the 6900XT as those 1080P results in particular are impressive stuff from the 6900XT.
Happy 6900xt owner here :D
Someone's discovered their free Epic library....
Maybe I don't get something, but why not the RX 6950 XT vs RTX 3090 Ti? Surely those cards were the "flagship" releases?

I just got a used sapphire nitro+ OC RX6800 to replace the RX 5600 XT. It's all relative😶🌫✌
Makes me happy to see my gpu in a video- I have an EVGA FTW3 Ultra that I spray painted white though
if my 6900xt did not have the worst coil whine ever in the story of the universe, i'd still probably be rocking it and would have never bought this rtx 4080. great card.
It’s a good day when iceberg posts
I'm curious what your issues were... would you mind sharing?
@@Lord_Zath dude literally wrote "manufacturing defect with cheap MLC capacitors" in his comment.
I can barely be bothered to play games any more but am a gear slut so here I am...
Kingdom Come Deliverance, despite some jank, was well worth my very limited gaming time. A gem.
Thanks for yet another solid video
I still think 3080ti was the better value. DLSS is far superior, and ray reconstruction furthers the 3080TIs lead in modern games.
if it was like 16gigs, yeah. But it's kinda a tie, if you dont care about RT
@ I have no vram issues at 21:9.
Eh, the experience is more or less the same when it comes to feature sets. The 6900 XT on average went for less money compared to the 3080 Ti. Giving it the better value proposition.
Love the series!
I always thought 3080ti was better but it got humbled lmao
I had a Power Color Red Devil 6900XT I got for $1100 when it came out at Micro Center. I upgraded to a 4090, but that 6900 is still a beast. It is in my friend's PC.
*rewatching this real quick as in my country both these cards are within 1% of pricing meaning you don't lose when going for either unless the latest and greatest titles are what you are focused on which need more VRAM however at 1080p 12gigs is still fine so i feel whichever card i can get for a better deal is the key and not which benched the best here*
some games run way better in linux with mesa driver on amd gpu than windows ,so anyone with amd gpu you should have both windows and linux for the best of both .
Ghostwire Tokyo hiccups could have been Denuvo related, since it was added later, just before DLC, and we all know what Denuvo did to village before it was removed
I thought the Radeon might win on cost per frame, did not expect it to win the majority of the benchmarks too. (admittedly on the older games.)
My old 6900 XT runs great in my Dad's rig these days und I'm still very happy with my 6950 XT. We both play on Linux and all the bad games are thankfully "gifts" from the Epic Store. The only time I ever used RT is for Photo Mode in Cyberpunk 2077 and for that it's good enough 🙂I honestly find that reflective shit rather annoying during gameplay.
I never got any slow downs in Odyssey on my GTX 1080 that were noticeable without some kind of monitoring.
I have one of the rarest 6900XT, It is from a fairly unknown brand "Sonnettech" in theory it was designed to work with MAC and I bought it second-hand for only 550usd practically new
I bought the 7800xt a few months after it came out. Best GPU I've ever used.
What this video has shown me is that almost every game that I want to play is from before 2023 or a good port of a pre-2023 console release. Nvidia's biggest problem might be that fewer people want to play the latest AAA output (see especially the last two big Star Wars games)
Can't wait for the 7900 XT/XTX vs 4080S/4090
4090 vs what exactly? another 4090? 😁 even AMD said they weren't competing there.
@@inkredebilchina9699 Well it is true there really wasn’t an AMD card in its league, but the 7900XTX was its closest competitor (and it beat it in MW2 for a while)
@@ultamate4734 me personally don't think the XTX card is beating the 4080 Super nowadays, maybe the OG 4080 but not Super. could be interesting to see them trade blows, but that too would have to be Raytraceless test.
The 2020's have certainly been an interesting decade thus far...
The video we expected.
The 6900XT was a welcome return to form after many years of not getting close to Nvidia's top cards. However, the real "goats" of that generation were the 6800XT and 3080, which gave you most of the performance of the top cards at a fraction of the price. If covid and crypto didn't disrupt prices, those two were probably the last time high end gaming was relatively affordable
Bought a 6900xt over a 3080 back when they released, and it was an absolute monster. Probably mu favourite card I've ever owned
will there be a benchmark test for the cpu of that time as well? i mean like for the 3700x, 5800x, and their intel counterpart etc.
Forget about RT. I have a 3070, and I have never used RT in any game while I can, but DLSS is a game-changer. FSR is much worse, so you can't compare both in the same line. I have a 2060S from 2020 and I still use it with my tv as my second rig and just because of dlss I get 4k or 1440p on almost all games except Wukong
The Champion is here, get RX 6900 XT for 220$ from RTX 2060 Super, and It was such an upgrade for this money!
Now I can play 4K/60 solid lock, thanks AMD.
Got a college Admission test in two days but sorry I can't miss an iceberg video on release
I got the 6900 xt new at 471$ outside the US, so im fairly happy with what i have
To be honest. It was the same when PhysX got on borderlands 2, my gtx 650ti could play the games, but the radeon 7770 could not.
Just got the 6900 xt extreme waterforce.for $450. Should return it and wait for relaeses in Janurary?
3080 ti owner here, I paid $550 (more than I would’ve liked) about a year and a half ago now but I got probably the single coolest model, the palit gamerock which is impossible to find in the USA
@@stangamer1151 "The game will reduce visual quality automatically on those GPUs even at moderate resolutions like 1440p" that was on the 4070 Super, that is around the same performance as the 6900 XT
The game will choose a higher texture quality depending on your VRAM. And that will not cause any performance decrease as long as it doesn't go above the VRAM. (source: Why VRAM Is So Important For Gaming: 4GB vs. 8GB - Hardware Unboxed)
Means even if you don't run on ultra RT settings, the extra VRAM will be something good for you. Knowing that also means that a GPU with more VRAM will be able to use higher Texture settings, especially in a game where it is automatically decided how high the texture quality will be
Good that they updated the pop in already, although I have heard the opposite somewhere in their comments as well. So it is kinda a guess for me on who is right and who is wrong. Or maybe it got changed and both are right in a way, idk
But it already shows that 12GB isn't the best, and optimal is 16GB or higher at the moment.
IMO, DLSS is truly a major advantage for the Nvidia cards. Then the better RT performance and energy efficiency are the cherries on top
This is why I still love my rx6950xt.
Got myself a 3080Ti a couple of weeks ago used for 400 Euros. Sold my 3070 for 270. It was an excellent upgrade until something more serious arrives. I had to upgrade the VRAM, 8GB is really not enough anymore for 1440p.
Am I missing something? Why use the 3080ti and not the 3090?
@@FacialVomitTurtleFights The 3090 is a halo product, meaning the absolute top tier of consumer grade cards. It's priced and has specs more in line with a titan card. The difference is that if someone bought a 3080ti, they could at least pretend that they didn't spend a crap ton.
Considering heaps of people were comparing the 6900XT to the 3090 in other videos i was already expecting the 6900XT to beat the 3080ti
As our Chumba (Jackie) would say: "WELCOME TO THE MAJOR LEAGUES🎉"
Any thoughts on the AMD RX 6950XT Vs 6900XT?
I just bought a 6900xt for 350 euro a month ago and i am loving it!!!! Im only playing warzone on it but I cant wait to play other stuff on it!!!!
I just bought a 6900xt on eBay for $300 and am very happy about it
i bought the 6900s little brother the 6700 xt and its one of the best purchases ive ever made. 300 dollars for an absolute beast of a card
I have both but honestly i still will have to say thier both beast
This is actually very surprising I do wonder why AMD has a lead from 2018 to 2021 then as soon as it hits 2022 the 3080 ti takes over. Very interesting I wonder if this applies to 2023 and 2024 as well and how they both react to unreal 5 games.
I had picked up a 3080ti for $740 at Best Buy Brand New in late 2022
Got my 3080 ti the other day for just 450 bucks (FE) I think I’ll be very happy with it
Me watching this on my gtx 1650: ah yes, very interesting
throw intel in the mix and make it a three-way battle now please
Period accurate drivers are gonna curbstomp it, but i wanna see it nonetheless
The 6900XT was a beast but unfortunately these days you need a 4090 for some games if you really want to crank the settings. It’s ironic that I got the 6900XT because the game I am playing at the moment works great on my ROG ally or even the 750ti in my HTPC. I’m just not that interested in AAA gaming these days. Unfortunately I realised that after changing my 6700XT for 6900XT a couple of years ago.
iceberg where is the RX 6950xT this thing is a beast !
I'll update the description to include links to those videos.
Ya, he's making videos for that time of the gpu release....
Were these tested using DLSS and or ray tracing?
