Definitely not a fan of ripped jeans or the "edgy crowd" who think they're stylish. When I was kid and my jeans started to rip, fray and couldn't be repaired, they became shorts and the cutoff legs became patch material. Now when I rip my jeans I use them for work clothes because I don't care if they get damaged but I'm definitely not going to ruin a brand new pair of jeans for an in-the-moment fashion trend.

I'm 54 and never looked like this when I was in my 20s. I think this channel endorses the motto "dress for success" or something similar.

Even when I was in my teens and early 20s going to a rock concert you couldn't make me ware them, the would go to the repair shop or become gardening/car repair jeans.

Ironically, I’m watching this to learn how to distress jeans so that I can MEND them using Japanese Boro techniques where the mends and fraying shows. I know. It’s bonkers. Let’s just call it “Art” and that will make it ok.

I fail to understand why any person would want to utilize clothing that presents the appearance of being destitute/poor or unable to purchase well fitting clean & decent clothing.

My guess is it is supposed to show an "active" lifestyle; things like skateboarding, motorcycling; heck, even hiking, can distress your jeans. Perhaps the original look was to show you did these kind of "manly" activities, to the EXTREEEEEEEME.
Me on the other hand; it looks sloppy.

@@nlhn638 Agreed, this is for the fakers who want to pretend they have an active lifestyle.
Similar to the KMart and Walmart cowboys who buy cheap western wear and pretend to be rodeo cowboys. These guys always stand out as fake because they don't have the right look, posture, manners, and none of them have a real silver platter belt buckle they won in a rodeo.

In my case, my jeans have a stain i can't get out. i figure distressing over the stain will look better (or at least more intentional) than just an ugly stain

Why all the hate comments? Jeans are naturally distressed over time and it can look really nice, makes them look more unique and less boring and generic when done right. If you wear basic blue or black jeans, cool, but that's not DIY or anything special.
