Wanting to get the CCTV installed but also needing to run other cat5 cables around the house, it made sense to run in one of the cameras I have purchased for the house.

Both Cat5 and Cat6 cable exceeds the data transmission requirements for 4K cameras. It's the distance and power that is the main limitation. Cat5 is 24 gauge wire and cat6 is 23 gauge. The small the number the larger the cable diameter. Since PoE uses DC power and resistance builds up over distance its the cable diameter that limits the distance a cable can be used. With 28 years experience we've learned to keep it simple; with Cat5 limit the distance to 220 feet, for Cat6 cable limit the distance to 300 feet. The data bandwidth will not be your limitation, the distance will be.

You are correct regarding the signal transmission abilities of Cat5 and Cat6 but with all due respect you are not correct about their Power over Ethernet (PoE) transmission capabilities. The PoE standards are designed around the same cable segment length limit that ethernet signal transmission has, 100 metres (~328 feet). You should not have any issue achieving 100 metre PoE transmission if you're using Cat5/Cat6 cables that have copper conductors 24 AWG in size (most common), let alone 23 AWG (less common) or even 22 AWG (rare). To claim that 24 AWG Cat5 has a PoE length limit of 220 feet (~67 metres) is simply not true. If you find that a camera cannot be powered by PoE when connected via 100 metres or less of Cat5/Cat6 cable, then you have a serious issue with the cable such as:
      1. Damaged conductor(s)
      2. Aluminium conductors instead of copper conductors
      3. Conductors too thin (probably anything thinner than 30 AWG, depending on the length)
      4. Cable is in an extremely high ambient temperature (like even hotter than a hot ceiling cavity) for most of its run
      5. A combination of the above

Great video, i just installed a Embedded NVR DS-7600 with Colour Vu 4mp cameras at work. I bgt Cat 6 cables online but the one snag is they have the rubbery bits where the cable end is. I believe its there to protect the cable from bending at the joint. Anyway, totally impossible to use the cable as is if fitting the cable protector that comes with the camera. Therefore i just trimmed it all off and reduced the little plastic release catch to.
Works a treat and can keep an eye on the unit from home just incase the alarm goes off. Also managed to figure out how to turn off the night light more by luck than judgement.
Must say its great kit and would recommend it.
    Keep up the good work

Always try to stay a few steps ahead, for example have one recording unit visible and another well concealed, if they know you've got cctv they'll probably want to disconnect or steal the box, a concealed camera self contained with batteries that can last a year that takes a photo on a card when it detects movement can be put anywhere and even used when camping.

My general rule of thumb for someone buying a system who doesn’t want to know the technical aspect, is that 2.8mm is the widest field of view of the range, to which it decreases as the mm of lens increases.

9:46 - You can't connect to these cameras wirelessly as you said. The power port on the camera itself is there for if you have not got access to a POE supply to the camera. You'll still need a Ethernet cable connected from the camera to a router or switch on the same network as the recorder.

    • @DIYJourney1

Hi, I am a new home owner and Persimmons did not provide info on the layout of the house (cables or pipes) so I am a bit concern in doing myself (but I don't mind doing the work) because I don't know what is in between the outer wall and the inside. You did not show any indication of caution, just got the ladder and drilled where you wanted. I can't do that.
I don't have any source of connections from the outside of my house to the inside.
How did you choose that location and what did you use to be safe at not piercing any vital areas?

      1) Colorvu are max 4mp, so not as good quality as the 8mp ones which give a crisp image, showing the detail.
      2) It has a mic, I don’t believe its 2 way audio, but to be honest, I don’t see a use for it, as we rarely use it on our doorbell.
      3) Its not a crystal clear image, just supports a colour image at night. However, so do the 8mp Darkfighter, but you require ambient lighting for darkfighter to work properly to give colour image. For me and what Iv always said is, a good bright floodlight matched with an 8mp cameras is best, as that gives you colour image, crisp quality of the 4k 8mp.

Download and run SADP from Hikvision on a laptop or PC. If the device is connected to the network but has some sort of IP issue then this software will find it, and let you edit its IP to suit. Have you changed your router recently? That can sometimes cause issues, especially if your NVR/DVR has a static IP the new router uses a different IP range.

Cat5 is fine. Twisted pair is a must; especially on longer runs. Make sure that you get stranded wire, not solid wire. The solid core conductor has a tendency to break. I went the lazy route and just bought some 50' cable with the ends already on them. It's a bit more expensive but it's a real PITA to debug wiring issues if you put your own ends on.

I was told the LED light that comes on can be quite bright even at the cameras lowest setting. • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  4 роки тому

Thats where I disagree with you. As said above, if you have a suitable security light the 8mp and any IR cam for that matter will switch to day mode on pir activation or the light being on giving adequate lighting. Id rather have 8mp quality, crispness and features than the lower megapixel cameras with lower quality image. Plus to be fair colorvu wouldnt work where we are but ignoring that fact, id stick with what system I have. Please view my instagram, or I can happily provide you of colour night images with these cameras or older 4,5,6 mp turret cams.

If you conceal front ones they will have unwittingly have already been recorded before they get around the back.

What’s the point in having 8mp cameras (4K) but the TV your using to view them looks old an definitely not 4K resolution?

Life Lesson #1 - never assume 👍🏻. Mainly the cameras are viewed on the App, which the benefit of 8mp is seen, that particular TV is fairly new but used simply for setting up on that occasion, I dont just have 1x TV in the house, the cameras can easily be viewed by our other 4K TV’s.

Ubiquiti are much cooler but they don’t support anything but their own cameras which sucks for businesses.

Correction: You can not connect to it wirelessly. It isn't a wireless camera. The power connection on the camera is if you want to supply separate power to it if you are not using the recorders POE feature or not using a POE switch.

Correction: Maybe you misinterpreted 👍🏻 of course they aren’t wireless, otherwise they would take batteries 🤦🏽‍♂️. You certainly can access them and use without a recorder.

Thanks for your reply, however wireless normally means wireless lol. Yes ofcourse you can definitely access them without a recorder but not just with the power cable. Anyways keep up the great videos.

You might want to replace those cameras as thay report back to base in china and down load the footage on the hard drive...so if you do anything in your backyard you don't want any one else to see or end up one the dark web then replace them now!!!.🤔😂😂💕🇬🇧🇺🇦
