    Great informative video, I’m looking at buying a 4 cam system, can I just ask, when you clicked the cable to the camera was that just simply an Ethernet cable (RJ45)? Do these come with the set up or are they to be bought separately?
    When I fitted cctc on my previous house I used CAT5 cable but had to wire all the baluns on and it was a pain. This would make life much simpler.

    Great advice thank you . I've had a ds 7200 turbo hd DVR with 2 cameras given me .. I will hard wire the 2 cameras to the dvd box which is standard I am assuming ... But do I have to connect the dvd box to a router or can I set up the internet part of it through the hot spots of my phone ... I ask because I do not have the internet where the camera are .. thank you

    • @DIYJourney1

      I assume you don’t have the 4g DVR/NVR so yes it will be needed to connected directly if you want it in your phone. Powerline adaptors can be used which helps.

    That's a great video, I just wished I'd watched it before trying to initially set up my nvr. how do I resolve the blank screen after pressing the adjust resolution key, my tv won't go to the required resolution so stuck in limbo. there's plenty of instruction on how to go back into the nvr and alter the res after you've initialised it but nothing about when you fall at the first hurdle. My nvr is the hikvision 7600 any help gratefully received

      Very good question, and to be honest I don’t know the answer. I want to say its not needed, but know the NVR beeps on initial set up if the hard drive isn’t formatted making me think it is required. Absolutely nothing stopping you just having it as a live viewing aswell as recording, just don’t view the saved footage I suppose.

    Can I ask you a question, I set myself a Poe setup up I brought cat 6 wire into my garage and fixed the 2 cameras to my garage covering my back and side of my house really all I need, but the wife bought me another camera for Christmas, now if I put this camera at the front of my house I have no way of getting the cable back to the NVR, so what’s the best way of setting it up as a stand alone camera recording to the SD card the camera is the hikvesion colour VU 4mp DS-2cD 2347G2-LU

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  3 роки тому

      Great question, few ways I believe, you could just power the camera with a poe supply and try connect wirelessly. What I did at our old house with a remote garage, I used a poe injector to power the camera, and then use powerline adaptors to get the data back to the nvr which was in the loft. Worked great.

    • @440robin1
      @440robin1 3 роки тому +1

      @@DIYJourney1 ok so I understand power supply for the camera then a wireless adapter to send the signal, so will the NVR get the single because it’s connecting to the same router or do I need something at the NVR, my NVR has just got a cat 6 wire coming from my router straight into the NVR, or will this camera be nothing to do with the NVR and recording onto the SD

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  3 роки тому

      Using powerline adaptors its a direct connection to the nvr not the router.
      Hard to explain but this is the jist:
      Camera > POE Injector > Garage Powerline Adaptor > Housewiring because of powerline adaptors > NVR Powerline Adaptor > NVR
      The > are cat5 or 6 cable, hope this helps, very hard to explain.

      @@DIYJourney1 I see, so you basically saying the same way the BT adopters work ? but they have have to be on the same ring mains earth and my garage isn’t

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  3 роки тому

      Thats it, although not BT ones. I always use TP Link ones, much better. Iv heard a few say that, but that certainly wasn’t the case at my old house as the garage was fed on its own circuita d consumer unit. At my current house, they have been used on the downstairs ring feeding a device on the upstairs ring.
      Its certainly worth a try, I used that method for 4 years with no issues.

    Hi mate. I just moved into a property a d the previous owners left the cctv installed. They left the nvr box in the attic with the mouse. They said we could connect it to our smartphones. Is that true? Not sure how to connect it to the TV as the nvr box is in the attic. So confusing!

      Is it connected to internet via Ethernet? Does the nvr have a output source connected the now?

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  3 роки тому

      If it is a hikvision system, you will need to connect a ethernet cable from your router to the LAN port on the NVR. If the router is not close by then you can use powerline adaptors. You would also need the hikconnect app.
      Also to watch on the TV there is a hdmi port normally on the back of the nvr and this will allow viewing on a tv

    • @aRahman4Media
      @aRahman4Media 3 роки тому +2

      @@DIYJourney1 thank you. I was wondering what a powerline adaptor was, searched it and then noticed the previous owner left it in our living room. Was wondering what that was.
      I'll set it up with an Ethernet cable and then try to use the app. My next issue is the login and password provided by the previous owner doesn't work and the previous owner said if all fails then to contact dg alarms. Thanks again.

    Having recently bought a later model - which "typically" came with no instructions - and found only a professional-level manual online, I was really looking forward to this video. Thank you for the feedback. That was the aim of the video from my experience also. I have had this experience myself also, and I struggle to recall what it was. Im wanting to say it was the DHCP setting which allowed the ip addresses to alter to suit. Im not very knowledgable on the network side of things, but could be worth checking that is enabled. What I would it could be worth trying to disconnect and reconnect on the Hik connect page. Sorry I cant be more help.

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  2 роки тому

      Yes you would require either a direct connection with an ethernet cable or another option is to use something like the TP Link powerline adaptors which just require a plug near and uses the homes electrical wiring to send internet data, removing the need to run internet cables.
      Link here for adaptors:

    What happens to the DVR and or hard drive if you have a power cut, are they corrupted and therefore no good, have to renew them? Also I need to turn my electric off as the bathroom pull cord on the light switch has just snapped and you can’t just renew the cord you’ve gotta replace the fitting so need to turn off electric. So when shutting down the DVR ( don’t know how to do that yet ) I’ve see a video that says it’s not shut down only ready for you to remove the plug from the wall. Is that correct? Mine has a 4 way splitter so do I unplug both? Any help will be much appreciated. Kind regards in anticipation.

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  2 роки тому +1

      Im not sure if this is being way overthought about. I can only comment for my system, but the idea of a NVR with a hard drive is to store the information regardless of a power cut. Would defeat the object if it all was corrupted after.
      I literally just turn my NVR off at the switch and its off. Im sure there is a way to do it via the NVR, but after 7 years with this system, Iv not had an issue yet

      @@DIYJourney1 Thankyou for the quick response. I have read other manufacturers provide a pre motion recording of 5/10 seconds to ensure targets are captured in the footage. Have you ever found this to be required and if so has the positioning of the cameras help aleviete this?

      I have 10second either side just so you see the whole event. The positioning will help but motion should pick anything uo in the image anyway

    • @DIYJourney1

      Hi,
      The ethernet from router to nvr would be required to have access to the cameras remotely on the app or computer. Of you are happy to view via a monitor connected to the nvr then no its not needed. You could use home powerline adaptors to connect your nvr to the router.

    • @DIYJourney1
      @DIYJourney1  4 роки тому +1

      I presume you mean with having a RJ45 connection aswell as a 12v connector. This particular system is POE, so power over ethernet. This powers the camera so no need to a power supply. The only time I would say a power supply would be needed is in remote setting where the camera is recording locally rather to a NVR.

      It depends what system you have. If the cameras and NVR are POE, then plugging the camera directly to the NVR with the cat5/ethernet type cable will power it.
      If they aren’t POE, or you cant physically get that connection between the canera and NVR then you will need a power supply.

      Yeah normally on the settings it does doesn’t it with green being motion. I do think blue is smart recording on the playback though, I could be wrong however. It may be a newer firmware or something on the cameras/nvr if its newer than yours and the same.

    Hi mate. Very useful video thanks. Our circumstance is a bit different. We are attempting to use a Hikvision mini dome in an Owl nest box : ] The nest box is apprx 1.2m square and you can view live cameras here on youtube for Owl boxes, Robert E Fuller has some great live feeds here on UA-cam. We will be linking it to a Hik VCR as you show and recording footage for uploading to UA-cam later. I got a bit confused with the app bit. In order to connect to the camera view with your phone you need the internet...is that right? As you have wifi there in your house. Unfortunately we don't have the internet, modem or wifi at our venue, so I assume the app will not be able to connect to the camera? I'm new to this stuff so just getting my head round it all. I think a possible way to enable phone viewing is by linking a 4G router to the VCR and using that as our signal. The area location has good 4G signal, though our course the router would need a network sim. Have I understood all this correctly? Would be grateful for any help you give. Cheers, Steve.

      Give this a try:
      Log into your NVR and navigate to the Menu (right click)
      Select Configuration
      Click on the Live View tab on the left hand side
      At the top of this window, click on the View tab
      Select the live view layout you wish to configure via the buttons on the bottom left of the preview panel (in this case 4x4)
      Click the [x] next to the channel name (D01, D02 etc.) of any camera you don't wish to view in the preview panel (our customer needed to remove 6 unused channels). Their D01-D16 name should be replaced with a blank X
      Hit Apply when done
      Navigate back to your NVRs live view and the No Link messages should have been replaced with the Hikvision logo.
